Susanville resident Marilyn "Mickie" Hansen passed away Jan. 31, 2006, at Washoe Medical Center from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Jan. 30.
Mickie, as her family called her, was born on Jan. 19, 1945, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Wayne and Mary Knauff. The family lived in Salmon, Idaho until Mickie was 5 and then moved to Paradise, Calif. She attended Paradise Adventist School through all eight elementary school years.
Her high school years were spent at Monterey Bay Academy where she graduated in 1963. Her college education was obtained at Pacific Union College, La Sierra College and Loma Linda University where she graduated in 1967 with a bachelors of science degree in dental hygiene.
Mickie met her future husband Larry Hansen, while attending Monterey Bay Academy and they later became engaged while attending La Sierra College. They married on Sept. 11, 1966.
She practiced dental hygiene in San Bernardino until husband Larry graduated from Loma Linda School of Dentistry in 1971. They spent a year working in Canada, along the British Columbia coast, before moving to the Woodland, Calif., area in 1972 where they operated their own dental practice until 1984. They then continued to work in private practice in Sacramento until moving to Susanville in 2004. Mickie worked in Susanville as a dental hygienist for Drs. Linda and Curtis Vixie and their associate Dr. Veryl Drury.
Mickie had a lifelong love of bicycling, traveling, gardening, skiing, reading and just about anything in the great outdoors. However, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her two granddaughters, Daitarih, 2-1/2, and Phyllis, 8 months. She was a member of the Lassen County Dental Hygiene Association and Laueate Theta Psi Sorority.
Mickie was preceded in death by her parents Wayne and Mary Knauff.
