MURIEL FRANCES DOLAN (nee McKENZIE) On Monday, October 18, 2004 at West Park Manor Care Home, Muriel Dolan, beloved wife of Jack Dolan and sister of Maida Duncan of Vancouver, passed away peacefully. Born in Winnipeg on January 15, 1921, Muriel will be sadly missed by sons, Bob (Diane), Alan (Susan) and Doug (Vera); grandchildren, Jeff (Jenn), Ryan, Andrea, Stacey, Adrian, Natalia, Fabricio, Laura and Jamie; and great-grandsons, Tyler and Braden. GORDON DRENNAN Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at the Victoria General Hospital, Gordon passed away at the age of 79 years. Beloved husband of Bernice Drennan (nee Kuch) of 25 years of marriage; loved father of Douglas and his wife Joan of Calgary, Sheila Dickson and her husband Ross of Mississauga; loved stepfather of Dale Kilimnik, David Kilimnik and his wife Terry, Sheila Liang (nee Kilimnik) and her husband Philip of Winnipeg; dear grandfather of Scott, Tracy, Sarah, Graeme, Chelsea, Cienna, Kevin, Dar-Cee and Nicholas. Gordon was predeceased by his brother James Drennan of Naples, FL in 2000; and his stepson D'Arcy Kilimnik of Winnipeg, MB in 1987. Gordon was a lifetime resident of Winnipeg, Second World War Naval Veteran, and had a career spanning nearly 50 years in the insurance industry. He was a long time employee of Reed Stenhouse, an avid golfer, a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held on Sunday, October 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Southwood Golf and Country Club, 101 Markham Rd. Our sincere appreciation to Drs. HILDA KYLE PIDLASKI (nee HAMMOND) Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, Hilda Pidlaski passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 49 years. She will be lovingly remembered by, son Greg (Pat); daughter Pat (Ted) and daughter Margaret; grandchildren, Laura, Karyn, Heather, Christina and Ben; sisters, Mary and Beth; brother Stanley; sister-in-law Mildred and numerous nieces and nephews. Hilda was born icon and raised in Ninga, MB, one of nine children. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1940 from St. Boniface Hospital. As a nurse she worked in such places as St. Louis, Fort Qu'Appelle and Ninette, where she met her husband Bill. Hilda was a constant support in the lives of her family and her neighbours on Stalker Bay. She was compassionate and caring and extremely family oriented, giving her children lots of opportunities. She took enormous pleasure in her grandchildren and took pride in her husband's golf achievements. LYDIA SCHINDEL March 14, 1910 - October 19, 2004 It is with profound sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Lydia Schindel on October 19, 2004 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Friedrich in 1976, grandson Clifford in 1989 and son Artur in 1998. She was also predeceased by her younger brothers, Kurt and Heinz of Germany. Our "Mama" will be lovingly remembered by her children, Walter (Nettie), Linda Dallman, Elli (Sepp) Kronhofer, Adina (Werner) Pohl, Ernst, Helga (Ron) Kehler, Gretel (Ed) Lambert and daughter-in-law Ella Schindel. She also leaves to mourn her brother Willi (Gerda) Wolter and her sisters, Helga and Ruth and their families all in Germany. Also left to cherish "Oma's" memories are her 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Lydia was born icon on March 14, 1910 in Berestowitz, Wolinien (in the Ukraine). In 1929 she married icon Friedrich Schindel (a widower with his young son Artur). Eleven children were born icon thereafter unfortunately three died at an early age, Ruth, Hans and Kurt. After the Second World War the entire family fled to Germany. In 1952 the family immigrated to Winnipeg. She was such a hard worker, working at Health Sciences Centre and the later years at Eaton's. She was a dedicated and loving wife. She was a caring and understanding mother. She loved all her grandchildren unconditionally and treasured her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her "streuselkuchen", "suelze" and "sauerkraut". You were always welcomed in her home and always, always well fed. She was a deeply religious woman, so strong in her Baptist faith. We are comforted in knowing that she is now in the arms of Jesus, home at last. Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh, liebe Mama! OLGA AMELIA SCHMOR Peacefully on October 20, 2004, Olga of North Kildonan, passed away at Concordia Hospital at age 97 years. Olga was born icon in Mischawaya, Southern Russia, to Heinrich and Christina (nee Kruger) Penz on October 23, 1907. Olga accepted Christ as her Saviour as a teenager and was baptized in Russia. She was a member of the Elmwood MB Church in North Kildonan for many years. She is survived by her sister Alma (Penz) and Jake Wiens, of Saskatoon, SK; three grandchildren, Carla (Ron) McCall, Sandra (Jim) Hatz, Calvin (Katy McClellan) Dirks; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob B. Schmor in 1995 after 67 years of marriage; her daughter Muriel in 2000; son-in-law John Dirks in 1995 and granddaughter Terri (nee Dirks) Scheller in 1984. Olga married icon Jacob B. Schmor on September 28, 1928 in Hepburn, SK. They were blessed with one daughter, Muriel in 1933. Olga taught piano in the early years, loved entertaining and she and Jacob travelled all over the world. She leaves a long legacy of faith and dignity. Grandma, we praise God that you are now in his presence, we've been blessed by your many years here with us. MARY THIESSEN It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Thiessen announces her passing on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Mary Thiessen was born icon on March 4, 1924 in the village of Neuendorf in southern Ukraine. Her parents were Kornelius and Maria Thiessen (nee Winter). In 1943, Mary fled to the West, settling in Germany, and in 1947, she immigrated to Canada with her mother and two sisters. After arriving in Canada, Mary landed a job with Paulin Chambers, where she worked as a supervisor, retiring in 1989 after 38 years of service. In 1995, she suffered a stroke which left her partially paralysed. She was able to continue to lead an active life, living at Bethania Haus for almost ten years, thanks to the assistance of her family, the dedication of Adina Wall, and the help of Home Care Services. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Katie in 1987, as well as two siblings in infancy. She is survived by her sister Susanne and brother-in-law Gerhard Thiessen; three nieces and a nephew, Lori Hermary (Paul), Ingrid Thiessen (Lawrence Baschak), Katie Watters (Tim) and Vern; as well as seven grandnephews and grandnieces, beloved cousins, and many friends. We wish to thank Dr. Doermer and the staff who cared for her at Concordia Hospital (N3), especially Donna and Ron. Carrie was predeceased by her loving husband Lorne Edgar Umphrey, brother and parents. She will be lovingly remembered by her six children, Lorne, Everett, Carrie, Lorena, Leo, Gawain; Greg and Tony Pallone; and daughter-in-law Rose Pallone-Umphrey; and two grandchildren, James and Dean. EDITH WAGNER (nee LEONHARDT) Peacefully, on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Grace Hospital, God called Edith home, and took away all pain. Our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was born icon April 1, 1915 in the Russell area, moving to Winnipeg as a young girl. Predeceased by her husband John in 1995, Edith will be missed by her daughter Carol; son John (Judy); and granddaughters, Heather Kozubski (Bob), Cheryl Franklin (Dave), and Lindsay. Also missing her will be her brother Emil Leonhardt (Lynn); sisters-in-law, Laura Leonhardt, Elsie Steiler and Dorothy Huff all of Winnipeg; and many nieces, nephews and extended family residing all over Canada, the United States and Japan. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Alexander; sister Pauline; and brothers, Ted, Alex, Jack and John. As a young woman entering the work force, she began as a domestic. She then joined Eaton's as a sales person in Hardware, China, and Womens' Clothing, working into her early 70s. A woman of strong faith, Edith was an active member of Albright Church, participating in the womens' ministry and missions. The family wishes to thank the staff of Oakview Place Personal Care Home for their care and kindness. THOMAS (TOM) NORMAN WAITE It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Tom Waite, our beloved husband, poppa, brother and friend. Tom is survived by his loving wife Irene of 51 years; daughter Colleen (Marcel); sons, Edward and Thomas (Joy); grandchildren, Justin, Rochelle, Myles, Tyler, Dylan and Chelsea; and sisters, Marge, Dora and Lorna. Tom led a full life, with many experiences and interests. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy travelling the world, then returned to Winnipeg to work for the CPR until his retirement. He was a tinsmith by trade, but there was not a job that Tom could not do. A "Jack of all Trades", best describes Tom, he was forever building, repairing or designing something. Tom was a perfectionist and often said, "If you're going to do a job, do it right". He was past president, and a life member with the Royal Canadian Legion, Brooklands and Weston Branch, always offering his support and time when called upon. Tom made many new friends in Lac Du Bonnet and became very involved in the community activities, he regularly enjoyed golf, playing darts and curling. Tom had the "Gift of the Gab" and always had a story to tell, he was quite a character and loved to make you laugh. He also had a serious side and took great pride in himself, and his accomplishments. We will miss him very much. He will forever be in our hearts and memories. And more, much more than this, he did it his way. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. VIOLET MARJORIE ANDERSON July 21, 1916 - October 13, 2004. Survived by niece Catherine Anderson Frumkin and her husband Robert Frumkin of Los Angeles; sister-in-law Louise Isaacs Anderson Bilman and her husband Jozef Bilman of Los Angeles; nephew David Storm and wife Heather and great-nephews, Ross and Alex and great-niece Emily of Winnipeg. Predeceased by her father Joseph Anderson, mother Mary Jane Ellis Anderson, brother Joseph Robert Francis Anderson and her beloved dogs, Tony, Kelly and Barney. Violet was born icon in Port-A-Down, Ireland and moved with her parents to Winnipeg when she was 10 years old. Her father built a house in the Norwood area of Winnipeg and Violet lived in that house for 69 years. Violet worked in the insurance industry and completed her business career with the Monarch Life Company. Violet was a lifelong animal lover, loved hockey and was an active member of St. Phillips Anglican Church and the Norwood Rebekah's Lodge, where she leaves many friends. She loved to laugh and had a wicked sense of humour. The family would like to extend thanks to all the staff at Oakview Place, one east, where Violet had been a resident for the past three years. The care she received was always the best. Services will be held at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave., on Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Brian Flower presiding. Elvira is survived by son Emanuel (Susan); daughters, Anna (Humberto) and Elaine; grandchildren, Randy, Melissa, Ryan and Justin; sisters, Alice, Angelina and Adriana (Antonio); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers and two sisters. Elvira was a very caring person and dedicated to her family.
