The family has many cherished memories of the many trips with our very special Auntie Marge and special cousins, Kathy and Bill. Gert was an avid golfer and had been a member of Niakwa Country Club for close to 50 years. Memories of golf with mom and dad are very vivid and special for Randy and Rod. Her passion for bridge was unmatched as she would sometimes play six or seven times a week. She continued playing right up until she went in the hospital in late July. Blueberry picking was another favourite pastime, as it presented another social outing for the family. GLADYS MARSHALL

October 24, 2004

GLADYS EVELYN MARSHALL (nee MILLER) AUGUST 13, 1906 - OCTOBER 21, 2004 Gladys was born icon in Seton Village (Toronto) on August 13, 1906 to Grace Mary Miller (nee Lawrence) and Clarence John (C.J.) Miller. Grace died when Gladys was a young girl and her father remarried Dorothy King (later Barringham), a devoted and treasured step-mother. Gladys had many fond memories of growing up on Christie Street, as a teenager helping her parents in their small grocery store (south of Dupont St.), and as a newlywed taking over that store for a short time with her husband Earl. Gladys' accounts of her father's open-hearted generosity and step-mother's kindness reveal a source of her own selflessness and compassion. Not one to dwell on difficulties, life's challenges only sharpened her resolve to meet them, and honed her bright wit and lively humour. After living in Toronto for 90 years, Gladys courageously left her home in North York and moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was much loved and admired by the new friends she made in Winnipeg. She died peacefully at home with her daughter by her side. Gladys was predeceased by beloved husband William Earl Marshall, brothers Arthur (Margaret) and Earl (Helen) Miller, and by niece Joan Durie. She is survived by her loving daughter Beverley, son-in-law Robert, grandson Stuart (Teresa) and granddaughter Beth (Pam). She is also survived by cherished brother Gordon Miller and sister-in-law June, niece Judy (Paul) and nephew Bob, and grand-nephews Patrick and Mark, as well as numerous other family and friends. Special thanks go to Shirley Purves and Lottie Joyce for the loving care they provided Gladys in her final days. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 26 at Klassen Funeral Home, and in Toronto at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 30 at Trull Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge St., with interment to follow in Westminster Memorial Park Cemetery.
