CHARLES WILLIAM ROBERT EMMS November 23, 1935- November 1, 2004 A heart of gold stopped beating, working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove that He only takes the best. Surrounded by the love of his family, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. It is with great sorrow that we announce that our beloved Dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Robert, passed away on November 1, 2004 at the age of 68. He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Carol, Calgary, AB; Ken (Elaine) Winnipeg, MB; Karl (Gail), Gimli, MB; Genni (Perry), Arborg, MB and Gerrey (Kelvin), Vidir, MB; his grandchildren: Tara (Kevin), Winnipeg, MB; Marlene (Derek), Slave Lake, MB; Keith, Winnipeg, MB; Kristy, White Rock, BC; Kelvin and Gillian, Winnipeg, MB; Kirsten, Arborg, MB; Codey, Morgan and Keely, Vidir, MB; his step-grandson Dan (Wanda), Winnipeg, MB; his brother Lloyd (Doreen), Winnipeg, MB; sister Bernice (Pete) Swedlo, Poplarfield, MB. He is also survived by two aunts, Jean Williams, Chatfield, MB and Violet Tait, Winnipeg, MB, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his special boys, Jasper and Zak. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Svea and Wallace and his sister Eleanor, in infancy. Dad was born icon on November 23, 1935 in Chatfield, MB to Wallace and Svea Emms. He attended school in Chatfield and later moved to Poplarfield to farm and to raise his family. He remained active on the farm until a few short months ago. Dad's life was his children, grandchildren and the farm. Dad's true love was the farm, but over the years he worked at Claude Neon, Riverside Gravel, assisted with the construction of Seagram's in Gimli and worked for Poplarfield Transfer. In 1995, Dad received his "Sammy", his trusted dog that stood by him day and night. One of Dad's main loves was hunting. He would take his holidays from the farm for two weeks of deer hunting. The first day of deer hunting was always a special day for Dad. He shared many hunting partners, stories and tales of the one that got away or that the scope missed! Dad's door was always open to all to share a cup of coffee, a glass of cheer, or a story. Pallbearers are: Keith Emms, Kelvin Emms, Codey Emms, Mike Emms, Jim Swedlo and Paul Humeny. Honorary pallbearers are: Teddy Welsh, Bill Grywinski, Ronnie Ostryzniuk, Michael Leochko and George Hibbert. God saw you getting tired In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay You faced your task with courage Your spirit did not bend But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come with Me." So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain We could not wish you back To suffer again. Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same As God calls us one by one Our chain will link again. You can't fly with one wing, Your memory lives on. Funeral service will be held at the Chatfield Community Hall at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6. Interment will follow at Chatfield Cemetery.
