KATHERINA PETERS (nee REIMER) April 10, 1911 - November 5,2004 Peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2004 at Donwood Manor in Winnipeg, Katherina went to be with her Lord in whom she put her faith and trust. She was predeceased by her husband Jakob Peters in 1987; three siblings in Russia and three siblings, David Reimer, Mia DeFehr and Anna Dyck here in Canada. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. We thank all the staff at Donwood Manor who so lovingly and tenderly took care of our aunt. Katherina's daily prayer in the last while has been "Lord take me home". God has now answered that prayer. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service at Donwood Manor at 11:00 a.m. with chaplain Gerhard Friesen officiating. Helene is survived by her sons Hector and Willie (Wilma) and her daughter Helene (Ed); grandchildren, Sharon, Philip (Patti), Walter (Sue), Wendy (Gerry), and grandchildren, Mario, Lynn, Louise and Elias, as well as her sister, Lillian Blahnik, and sisters/brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, William Palehitski, and her second husband, William Romano. MARION (nee SIGURDSON) RUSSELL It is with great sorrow, that after a lengthy illness on November 4, 2004, at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB, with her family by her side, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and friend, Marion Russell aged 79 years of Eriksdale, MB, formerly of Ashern, MB. Marion was the youngest of seven children born icon to Sigurdur and Joanna Sigurdson on July 22, 1925. Marion was a member of the school board for Deerhorn School. She played guitar and sang for dances as a young girl. She also played guitar for Christmas concerts for the Deerhorn School. Mom married icon Wilfred Russell on December 20, 1947, where they lived and farmed in the Deerhorn District. She was a cook for Tasker Construction and moved to Ashern, MB in 1974. Later she became a cook at the Lakeshore General Hospital until she retired in 1993 and moved to Winnipeg. Mom was an avid bingo player and loved knitting, playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to spoil her grandchildren with her cooking and baking and played many a card game. She especially loved to be surrounded by her family or just sharing a cup of coffee with her many friends and family. Mom's Icelandic heritage was of great importance to her and which she was very proud of. Surviving are her five children, daughter Thelma (Doug), grandchildren, Brendon and Ashley Hogue; son Stan (Aline), grandchildren, Aaron and Kevin Russell; daughter Barbara (Greg), grandchildren, Colin, Darcie and Geoffrey Vince; daughter Linda (Earl), grandchildren, Darryl, Jay and Tammy Seymour; son Gary (Nadine), grandchildren, Candace and Cory Russell; six great-grandchildren, Miranda, Selena, Tia, Kylie, Sarah and Declan; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Wilfred, in 1998; her mother and father; her sisters, Thora Austman, Sigga Thorlacius and Lena Halldorsson; brothers, Siggi, Jon and Leo Sigurdson. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern, MB with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the Church. Interment to follow in the Betel Churchyard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Colin Vince, Geoff Vince, Darryl Seymour, Jay Seymour, Aaron Russell, Kevin Russell, Cory Russell and Brendon Hogue. Honorary pallbearers will be all her special friends and those in attendance that day. Special thanks to Dr. Tiedt and Dr. Styne, Eriksdale Hospital staff and the home care workers for all their love and care. Also, a special thanks to Sandy for always being there for all of us. JOHN CHRISTIAN BLAIKIE In sadness we announce the passing of John Christian Blaikie, on November 5, 2004 at Beacon Hill Lodge, our husband, dear friend, grandfather and great-grandfather. John was born icon September 21, 1917 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1920. John will be sadly missed by his wife Annette, her daughter, three sons and their spouses, Jackie and Roy, Jim and Jill, Jason and Jan, John and Joyce, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Eric in Victoria, BC. John led a very interesting life and loved to share stories about it with his family. He was always a perfect gentleman and was affectionately known as "Grandpa John". John was a veteran of the Second World War. His humour and sharp wit will be missed at the many family gatherings he so enjoyed. The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Beacon Hill Lodge for the excellent care they provided to John. Cremation has taken place. DOROTHY MAY BROWN (nee EVANS) On November 6, 2004 at St. Norbert P.C.H. surrounded by family, peacefully slipped away to join Jesus and loved ones who'd passed on before. Left to cherish her memory is devoted husband Gary; son Derek (Lynne); daughter Roberta (Jayson); grandchildren, Justin, Chelsea, Jaycee, Kassi and Kaelyn; brother Bill Evans (Marian); sister Gwen Petsnick; and extended family members. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Peggy Evans; and brother-in-law Wally Petsnick. Dorothy was a committed christian who's first love was Jesus Christ and this love over-flowed onto her family and friends. A long time member of Calvary Temple, Winnipeg she was active over the years as a crusade worker, alter worker, phone prayer counsellor, and Sunday school teacher. In addition she for many years held a weekly prayer and bible study group in her home becoming a mentor and spiritual mom to a number of women living in the community! She was a beloved wife and mother who doted on her family. Her many interests included indepth bible study, music, home-making, cooking, travelling, flower arranging, ceramics, the cottage at the lake, and was an avid reader. Further, she was a pianist, able to express her feelings and mood through her playing. She will be greatly missed by many. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of St. Norbert P.C.H. for their tender and excellent care of Dorothy. DEANNA EASTMAN (nee GLUTYK) November 25, 1942- November 5, 2004 It is with deepest sadness that our beloved wife, mother and Amma Deanna Eastman passed away on November 5, 2004 after a courageous hard fought battle against cancer. Deanna is survived by her husband of 43 years Gisli; daughter Sharon (Ken) Goodwin and their children, Derrik, Blair and Judee of Winnipeg; son Guyland (Kim) Eastman and their children, Sharly and Kelsey of Calgary and son Garth (Kim) Eastman and their children, Skyler and Triston of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her parents Russell and Dora Glutyk; sisters, Sonia, Rosaline (Garth), Starlet (Leo); brothers-in-law, Herb (Merle), Halli (Judy) and Robert; sisters-in-law, Anna, Carol (Billy) and Olive, plus many nieces and nephews. Deanna was predeceased by her son Harold in infancy; in-laws Una and Halfdan Eastman; sister-in-law Gudlaug and brothers-in-law, Vic, Edward, Roy, Kris and Dori. Everyone loved Mom. Mom was forever kind, giving, and her outgoing personality will be sadly missed. She touched us all with her warm heart and love of life. Mom was a very hard working and successful businesswoman in our community, being self-employed after jointly starting Family Florist & Handicrafts in 1982 with a dear friend. Mom became sole owner in 1991 and continued to build Family Florist into a household name, respected for the great work and strong reputation of her skills and love of floristry. Mom also drove school bus for the River East School Division for nine years, and owned a cleaning business for seven years. Mom retired in late 2000 but continued on a part-time basis in the floral industry because she couldn't say no to anyone; she also continued decorating halls for special occasions. Mom's happiest times were going to her birthplace Roblin, MB to visit her family. Mom enjoyed playing Bingo with friends, and spending time with her Aunt Elizabeth. Mom's great joy in life was watching her grandchildren grow up, enjoying her beautiful home, attending rodeos with Dad, supporting the Blue Bombers and especially their trip to Texas. The Eastman family wish to thank the 3rd Floor Nursing Unit at Concordia Hospital, especially Tesfom, Mary-Ann, Suzanne, Linda and Pat. We also wish to thank all of Mom's dear friends and relatives for their support. A celebration of Mom's life will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with reception to follow and a later interment to her resting place at Glen Eden. Darling Deanna, Mom, Amma, you will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for everything you did for us and for your love. We are, and always will be so proud of you. She eventually moved to Winnipeg where she resided until her final day. She was predeceased by her father Walter Foster in 1953; mother May Foster in 1989; son Tommy; daughter Bertha; and brother Albert Foster. She will be sadly missed by her family, Iris Aymont (Bob), Bruce Aymont (Virginia), Theresa Reimer (Bob), Robert Aymont (Wanda), Louise Green (Bill), Beatrice Richard, (Trymer); 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister Ida of Regina; brothers, Herb (Norma) and Ivin (Barb) of Brandon; and many many friends and relatives. SHIRLEY J. GEDDIE Peacefully at sunrise November 6, 2004 after a lengthy struggle with C.O.P.D. and Cancer at the Deer Lodge Centre our loving mother left to join the Angels. Shirley was born icon June 15, 1925 in Winnipeg. She was a member of the Prince Edward Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed camping in the Whiteshell; first at Nutimik Lake and then 22 years at Brereton Lake. She was known as Grandma Geddie to all of the seasonal campers. She spent many enjoyable hours knitting and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to be surrounded by her family and enjoyed a cup of coffee with her friends and neighbours. Her family was her life. She married icon Bill Geddie in August 1946 and was married icon for 49 years. She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Smyk, Heather Garton (Charlie), Lorraine (Daryl); and sons, Dell and Albert (Rose); grandchildren, Rick (Vinne) Kevin (Dawn); Colleen (Lionel); Terry (Wendy), Bonnie (Rob), Tony (Sabrina), Dallas and Shaylene; Chris, Ray, Danny (Tamara), Rob, Charlotte (Mike), and Bill; 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, her daughter Donna; her daughter-in-law Kathy; her parents, Fred and Lena; sister Marge and brother Ray. The chain is linked again. Special thanks to the fourth floor east staff at Deer Lodge Centre for making her last days comfortable. Funeral service will beheld at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. (at Henderson Hwy.) on Wednesday, November 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim Poirier officiating.
