JOAN REIMER

November 10, 2004

JOAN REIMER April 13, 1946 - November 7, 2004 On Sunday, November 7, 2004, Joan left us to be reunited with her mom again. She will lovingly be remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Bill Wilton; Wendy, Todd, Zoe and Bryce Wyman; Cam, Sean and Kyle Wilton; and Dan Wilton. Also left to cherish her memory are her aunt Anne and uncle Vic Martens, numerous cousins and her Westman House family, Jean, Jane, Sheilagh, Shirley, Ron and Mike; her guardian angels, Wendy Kennedy and Jennifer Davies, along with all the staff of Westman Opportunities. Joan was predeceased by her mother Kaye, in 1979 and her father Nick, in 1993. Joan's life of independence began with her move to Brandon in 1979. With the help of COR Enterprises staff, she was taught to take public transportation to and from work and to have as much independence as she could master. She truly loved her work at COR and always looked forward to Fridays which were paydays. With her moved into Westman House in June 1979, a whole new world opened up for her and her place in that family was established. Staff at Westman House and COR Enterprises believed in endless possibilities and Joan's accomplishments were a testament to that philosophy. Her life was extremely enriched and fulfilled. Many thanks go to all who helped her achieve her goals. Joan, how proud we were of you and all that you accomplished! What a great run at life you had! A very special thanks goes to Dr. Lawrence Groves for his kindness and caring in helping Joan maintain quality of life. Many thanks to all those who, in times of need, opened their hearts and homes, you know who you are, bless you all. A celebration of Joan's life will be held at COR Enterprises, 364 Park Ave. East, Brandon on Wednesday, November 10 at 11:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 13 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. SHIRLEY REMPEL

November 10, 2004

SHIRLEY MARGARET REMPEL (nee KROEKER) 1944 - 2004 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Margaret Rempel, wonderful wife to Peter; mother to Angela (Gordon) and Jonathan (Jennifer); Nana to Vanessa, Ryan and Camille. She is also survived by her brother Clarence (Agnes), sister Elda (David) and brother Albert (Tina). With her family by her side, mom passed away peacefully November 7, 2004 at the Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret Kroeker in 1987 and her father Frank Kroeker in 1992. Mom's infectious and quirky sense of humour, her keen intellect and razor-sharp wit, her love of gardening and her passion for music (particularly Elvis) will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. Mom was also an avid reader often going through several novels over the course of the weekend and she loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. She was particularly proud of completing the New York Times Sunday crossword in ink with no mistakes, a task she accomplished for the first time only a few short years ago. A devoted mother and grandmother, Shirley found pure joy in making other people happy and most often put the needs and wants of others before her own. She had a natural talent for turning everyday gatherings into special events and she was clearly in her element when planning pool parties, holiday gatherings and family get-togethers and nothing pleased her more than putting her superior culinary talents to work for her family and friends. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service in celebration of mom's life will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. The family would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Dr. Fewer and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the wonderful staff and people at the Riverview Health Centre's E-3 Wing Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, and/or Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 1A2. We love you mom and we will think of you often - bye for now. Psalm 23 The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 McGillivray Blvd. - 925-1120

She leaves for the time being, her husband of 29 years of a happy married icon life, Donn; and two children, Joshua Michael and Jordan Christian, both still at home, as well as her parents, Michael and Irene Baron of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1992 she moved to Victoria, BC, where she worked tirelessly for the under-privileged. For the glory of the Lord, she cared for them in many ways, giving piano lessons to children who were unable to afford them, and telling and giving dramatic readings of her stories at various venues, as well as helping people from all walks of life. Not long before she was diagnosed with cancer, she finished writing and publishing her first book, "Do I Have a Story to Tell!" She was an unselfish person who always looked to better the interests of others, and went to great lengths to help those in need; including making large pots of soup and stew and taking it to the street people in Victoria, BC. WAYNE WOOD

November 10, 2004

WAYNE RODNEY WOOD Peacefully, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, November 7, 2004, our beloved husband, father and step-father passed away at the age of 59 years. I am survived by my wife Vicki Reynolds; son Dylan; stepchildren, Scott Reynolds (Christine), Neil Gouriluk, Jessica Gouriluk; stepgrandson Dawson Reynolds; mother Iris of Poseidon Place; sister Sharon Paulsen (Bill) and their children, Barrett and Desiree; uncle Dennis Wood (Eve); aunts, Florence Rogers and Margerie Lamoureux; mother-in-law Aileen Reynolds; sister-in-law Anne Guest (Hal); brother-in-law Phil Reynolds (Val); as well as numerous cousins, relatives and friends. I was predeceased by my father Rodney in 1993. I lived my early life in Transcona attending Central and Westview Schools and T.C.I. Transcona was an anomaly for the prairies. It was a fairly large blue collar industrial community that provided a prairie experience of giant skies and vistas with mud roads, poplar bluffs and all the fun that young boys could create. Outdoor hockey rinks and skating set the scene in winters and bus rides to the city of Winnipeg a few times a year were a great treat. The Bay and Eaton's and the walk down Portage Avenue were great fun at Christmas. I hope this part of the city comes back to greater life. After graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1967, I became a teacher in the Lord Selkirk School Division #11 in Selkirk. I taught there for 33 years at S.C.I., the Comp., Mapleton, Lockport, Robert Smith and St. Andrews Schools, finally returning to the Comp. for my last nine years. In effect, I taught every grade. I think I was a dedicated professional who believed that education could better the world. I also knew that obtaining a public school education was only a beginning. Education is ongoing; it doesn't stop when one finishes public school. One must always be widening and deepening perceptions. Schools have changed, but so has the family and the media is a constant source of new input to both. For me, my family was my number one priority and aside from work I devoted my energies to the care and upbringing of my family. I was a single parent for six years and am proud of the job I did with my son and later my stepchildren. During this time, I coached hockey at Vince Leah Community Club for a number of years. Also, I was active in promoting Remembrance Day Services at the Comp. in Selkirk. I also served on the Provincial Middle Years Committee as a member of the M.T.S. for a number of years. In 1989 - 90, I took a one year sabbatical when I attended courses at the University of Manitoba. It was a pleasure to have the honour to be in courses taught by Dennis Cooley, Carol Shields and Tony Steele. It was an exciting and rewarding year. Many things in life provide stimulation and reward, most especially the love of my wife and family. The music of J.S. Bach and jazz were one of my greatest pleasures. Dancing, anywhere, anytime with my wife to whatever inspired us was one of my greatest joys. Literature was another reward; fiction, poetry, history, newspapers, magazines all brought a kind of solace. There were also skiis, skates, bicycles, Bird's Hill Park, the Forks, the river walk, the New Music Festival, tents, canoes, uninhabited lakes with uninhabited islands, Hecla, Grand Beach, Clear Lake, skiing in the Rockies, the Aurora Borealis. Heaven itself. Lastly, I would like to thank my wife, my family and my friends for their help in these last days. It was a demanding time for all of us and I truly and humbly thank all of you for the love, friendship and caring that you gave me and us. Life is a spiritual journey helped by the teachings of Jesus and Buddha. Peace and love to all of you. Wayne's funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. in Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave. with Rev. Paul Peters-Derry officiating. We would like to thank all of the health care professionals we encountered during the last eight months at the Selkirk and St. Boniface General Hospitals. Heartfelt thanks especially to the incredible Palliative Care team from St. Boniface, whose genuine care and support over the past three weeks made it possible for us to honour Wayne's last wish, to be at home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the Wayne Wood Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of The Lord Selkirk School Division Scholarship Foundation, 221 Mercy St., Selkirk, MB R1A 2C8. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren, Ryan (Rachel) Evans, Heidi (Dave) Clark, Jordan Evans, Melissa (Chris) Park, Meagan Hampton, Glen Hampton and his great-grandson Owen. Also one brother Norman (Gwen) and sister-in-law Marlene Zelmer. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Dennis. Glen was born icon in Winnipeg on September 18, 1928. He lived here all his life with the exception of one year (May 1960 to June 1961) when he and Muriel resided in Brandon. Glen worked a few years in the printing industry and then in June 1962 became a salesman for Hillier Paper, which later became Inter City Paper Co. He retired from that company in 1989. Glen was a long time, active member of Grace Chapel where he was an elder for many years, until ill health forced his retirement. He also spent many years working at Faith Bible Camp, on the Board of Directors and as a Counselor, Camp Director, Camp Manager, preacher and where ever he was needed. He loved working with young people and had a good relationship with them. Glen had a quick wit and a great sense of humour when we all enjoyed. We will remember Glen for many reasons, but above all for his faithfulness. He was faithful to his Lord, and Saviour, Jesus Christ, to his church and his family. He will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Grace Chapel, 19 Berrydale St., St. Vital, with interment to follow in the family plot in St. Vital Cemetery.
