JANET MARY MOORE It is with deep sadness that the Moore family announce the sudden passing of their sister Janet Mary Moore on November 8, 2004. Janet was born icon in Winnipeg on July 17, 1939. She attended St. Ignatius School and St. Mary's Academy. She retired early from working for the Federal Government, and resided at the family home, then Villa Cabrini and finally Columbus Courts. She was predeceased by her parents, Milton and Jean Moore; and her brothers, Philip and Paul. She is survived by her brothers, Peter (Joan), Tom (Joyce), Jim (Heather), Joe (Lorraine), Bill (Mary Ann), Msgr. Michael, Bernie (Claire); and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends especially those from St. Ignatius and Columbus Courts. She was well known for her baking, knitting, needle point, playing cards and her generous heart. We thank all the health care providers who helped Janet throughout her life. Prayers will be at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Thursday evening, November 11 at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Michael Moore and fellow Priests at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford St. on Friday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall then interment at Assumption Cemetery. CATHERINE PATERSON

CATHERINE CAMERON FRASER PATERSON Je Suis Prest Catherine passed away peacefully with her family present on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Mom was born icon in Toronto, ON on January 6, 1924 and at a very early age moved to Glasgow, Scotland with her parents where she spent the next several years, during which time the family welcomed the birth of Margaret before returning to reside in Toronto. Upon the family's return, Catherine was educated in Toronto. Throughout the Second World War Catherine worked at De Havilland Aircraft Company followed by employment at McMillan Binch Barristers & Solicitors in Toronto where she met and later married icon John Norman Paterson who was articling at the firm. In 1947, Catherine and John moved to Fort William, ON (Thunder Bay) where John was involved with the family business, N.M. Paterson & Sons Limited. They resided on Vickers Street and subsequently, McGregor Avenue. While raising her family, Catherine was active with the McKellar General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the I.O.D.E. and her cherished "Knitting Club". In later years, Catherine served with distinction in and was a decorated member of The Orders of St. John and St. Lazarus of Jerusalem. More recently, she served with great pride as the Honourary Lt. Colonel of the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment. Catherine will be greatly missed by her many friends in both Thunder Bay and Palm Beach, Florida where she spent the winter months. Mom cherished the memories of travelling the world with John, sailing, duck and partridge hunting, gardening, golf, art and pottery. Catherine was predeceased by her parents Robert McKenzie and Helen Ann Sclater Fraser; her husband John Norman Paterson (1981) and her granddaughter Alexandra Cameron Paterson. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and John Williams and their family; her children, Elizabeth (Libby) Paterson White (Brian) of Winnipeg, Margaret Paterson Dunn (Greg) of Santa Cruz, California, Robert (Sharon), Donald (Lori) and Alexander (Kim) of Thunder Bay. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Christopher (Toronto), JoAnne (Cap-St.-Ignace, QC), Spenser and Judith (Winnipeg), Peter (Ratchaburi, Thailand), Catherine and Libby (Santa Cruz, CA), John, David, Stephen, Allan, Isabella, Maximilian, Sclater, Sam, Ann and Abby of Thunder Bay. As well, Catherine was the proud great-grandmother of Simon (Toronto) and Xavier (Cap-St.-Ignace) and she will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Joan Paterson Keyes (Ottawa) and Nancy Paterson MacFarlane (Montreal) and brother-in-law Donald S. Paterson (Winnipeg), along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Brodie Street in Thunder Bay South on Friday, November 12 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. John Ambulance are requested by the family in accordance with Catherine's wishes. MARIAN RASMUSSEN (nee MARY CEBULA) May 13, 1931 - November 9, 2004 Suddenly on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 in Sioux Falls, S.D. enroute home to Manitoba, Marian passed away. She left to mourn her husband of 52 years, Edgar; daughters, Debbie and Deana, daughter-in-law Karen; granddaughters, Amy (Josh) and Michelle, and the pets she adored: Sheila, Morty, and Sierra. She also left brothers, Chuck, Mart, Henry, and sisters, Sonja and Stella. She was predeceased by her sister Vicki. Marian was sadly predeceased by her son, Rev. Dr. Barry Rasmussen on January 25, 2003. She enjoyed walking with Edgar and her dogs in Birds Hill Park during spring, summer, fall, and winter which included feeding chickadees. She used to be an avid golfer and before that, an excellent bowler. She always enjoyed games of any kind, socializing with her family. She loved animals and often rescued strays. She was known for her extraordinary talent with cooking and baking. She put her heart into everything she did. She had a very generous spirit. She was a huge presence in her childrens' and grandchildrens' lives, always there when she was needed. She has left another hole in our family but she is now with her son, our son, brother, husband, dad. Funeral services will be held in the church where she belonged for many years, Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Crescent at London on Saturday, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sherwood Park Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 7 Tudor Cres.

DONALD VICTOR (ROBBIE) ROBERTS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robbie, beloved husband, father and grandfather, on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the age of 85 years at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Robbie will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving and devoted wife, Jeannie, of 38 years; his children, Dr. Donald John (Kathy), Gordon (Georgina), Barbara (Jesse), Douglas (Florence); grandchildren, Sarah, Jeremy, Lora and Ian; very dear cousin Mary Gray Jennings and husband Charles of Florida. Robbie was born icon on October 8, 1919 in Toronto, ON to Daisy Lavinia of England and William Carroll Roberts of Troy, New York. He was educated in Toronto and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the war. Robbie's long and varied professional career began in Toronto at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and continued to Brown and Rutherford, Silpit Industries, London Life, Winnipeg Supply and Guarantee Trust Company in Winnipeg. Robbie moved to Edmonton to hold the position of Vice-President of North West Trust Co. for 20 years. During this time his many business associates became dear friends from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Vancouver Island. Robbie was a member of many clubs and associations, including the Edmonton Petroleum Club. Robbie's favourite pastimes included reading, everything to do with aviation, the outdoors, travelling and sports. Robbie will always be proud of the time he spent playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1943 to 1945. Robbie was a very friendly, kind-hearted, out-going man, and loving, devoted husband. I love you so much, I will miss you... Your memory will last in my heart forever my dearest Robbie. Love always, your Jeannie. BELLE DORIS SHKLOV (nee KAMINSKY) Belle Doris Shklov (nee Kaminsky), in her 90th year, passed away peacefully, November 9, 2004 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg after a lengthy, admirably endured illness. Predeceased by her loving husband Harry in 1987, she is survived, in her immediate family, by her daughters, Merilee, Trina and Beverly; sons-in-law, Sonam, Chris and David; grandchildren, Kert and Darren; sister Gertie Lev and family and sister-in-law Sunny Kaminsky and family. She was also predeceased by her parents, Sophie and Samuel Kaminsky; sisters, Rose Dvorchik and Sally Gutnik and brother William Kaminsky. Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, confidant, mentor and inspiration to those who knew her, she will be sadly missed by all who, touched by her special kindness, loved and respected her. Belle leaves behind a legacy of love melted with her wonderful sense of humour and tenacity of spirit. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all those who cared for Belle with such exemplary love and compassion, including the many caring staff members at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Home Care and We Care Home Health Services. DOREEN TYLER Peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at her residence, Doreen Tyler of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of Duane Tyler passed away at the age of 81 years. Funeral service will be held in the Portage Alliance Church, Portage la Prairie on Saturday, November 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ray Willms officiating. The service will terminate at the church with cremation to follow and interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the family plot in Oakville Cemetery. Doreen was born icon on April 16, 1923 daughter of Ernest and Edith Moxham at Plumas. The family moved to the Oakville district where she was raised and attended the Ingleside school. In 1949 she married icon Duane Tyler and they farmed in the Ingleside district for 10 years before moving into Oakville in 1959. Here they raised their family of four children and together they established Tyler Electrical and Insurance where Doreen helped out in the Oakville office while Duane established N.D. Tyler Insurance in Portage la Prairie in 1968. They resided in Oakville until 1988 when they moved into Portage la Prairie. Doreen was a longtime and very active member of the Alliance Church at Oakville and Portage. She was an active member of the Oakville Home and School and the Oakville Skating Club where she was always there to help out. She was also a member in the Oakville Village Committee where she served as secretary for a number of years. Predeceased by her parents Ernest and Edith and one brother; Dwight Moxham in 1995, she leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 55 years, Duane; daughter Wanda (Jerry) Weselowski of Portage la Prairie and grandson; Mark (Laura) and great-grandson, Kyan; grandson Michael (Tracy); son Bob (Laurel) of Winnipeg and grandchildren, Drew, Brock and Andrea; daughter Faith (Dan) Bartmanovich of Winnipeg and grandchildren, Alex and Andrew and son Ross (Cindy) of Edmonton, AB and grandchildren, Justin, Kyle and Jayden. Also surviving is one sister, Erna Van Waggoner of Toronto and several nieces and nephews. COLLEEN JOY VANLEEUWEN (nee BARON) On October 2, 2004, after a lengthy illness, at her home in Victoria, BC, surrounded by her loving family. She is now in a better place at home with her Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ. She leaves for the time being, her husband of 29 years of a happy married icon life, Donn; and two children, Joshua Michael and Jordan Christian, both still at home, as well as her parents, Michael and Irene Baron of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born on August 31, 1952, in Edmonton, Alberta, Colleen later received her education in Winnipeg. She attended Balmoral Hall School and the University of Winnipeg. Colleen was a person who had many interests and talents. An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing the harp, piano, accordion, saxophone and flute. In 1992 she moved to Victoria, BC, where she worked tirelessly for the under-privileged. For the glory of the Lord, she cared for them in many ways, giving piano lessons to children who were unable to afford them, and telling and giving dramatic readings of her stories at various venues, as well as helping people from all walks of life. Not long before she was diagnosed with cancer, she finished writing and publishing her first book, "Do I Have a Story to Tell!" She was an unselfish person who always looked to better the interests of others, and went to great lengths to help those in need; including making large pots of soup and stew and taking it to the street people in Victoria, BC. Colleen will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, both in Winnipeg and Victoria. The funeral was held at McCalls Funeral Home in Victoria and burial took place at the Royal Oak Cemetery, in Victoria. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at the Trinity Baptist Church, 549 Gertrude (at the corner of Nassau), Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. There will be an open microphone for those wishing to pay tribute. For the past three years Olga has resided at Tudor House in Selkirk, where she made many new friends. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossdale, MB, with Fr. Richard Soo officiating. MARIAN CLAPA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marian Clapa, husband of the late Maria Clapa, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the age of 84. Left to mourn are daughters, Irene Pidstawka (Robert) of Arborg; Wanda Van Ryckeghem (Dan) of Winnipeg; Stanley Clapa (Patricia) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Darlene Sutyla (Rene); Andrea Reeks (Paul); Zachary Clapa; great-grandchildren, Thomas Pidstawka, Todd Sutyla and Evan Reeks. Marian was born icon in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland, on November 2, 1920. After the war Marian married icon Maria. While in Belgium he worked as a coal miner for several years before immigrating to Canada in 1954. Marian started his career as a car man for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Weston Shops where he was well respected. He retired September 1, 1985. Marian was a jack-of-all-trades and almost a master of some. He enjoyed fishing in many lakes, but in his later years he mainly fished at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell area. Marian, his late wife Maria and their granddaughters enjoyed picking berries, mushrooms and fishing. Marian was a very devoted and concerned husband and father. He cared for his wife, who had Alzheimer's for many years and for the well being of his children and their families. We would like to thank the exemplary staff at the Grace Hospital for their care. Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16 prior to the funeral at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel on 1442 Main St. Interment will follow in the Polish National Cemetery. ELIZABETH DOWNEY Elizabeth Downey, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Kildonan Personal Care Home. Elizabeth was born icon in Manitoba on November 2, 1911 and resided here all of her life. She married icon Morris and they spent 60 happy years together. Morris predeceased her in 1995. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother and was always there for her daughter Muriel. Muriel will be forever grateful and thankful for having a mother who always came through for her. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Muriel Conn and husband Edward; three grandsons, Jeffrey and wife Karen, Gregory and wife Terry, Brian and wife Twylla-Jane; seven great-grandchildren, Carolyn and husband Darrall, Stephen, Miranda, Paul, Lauren, Aiden and Bryce; two great-great-grandchildren Riley and Joshua. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all the wonderful staff at Kildonan Personal Care Home for their exemplary care and kindness shown to Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Bill; parents, Peter and Jessie; sisters, Julia, Emily and Jean. She is survived by her son Norman; grandson Randy and wife Bev and granddaughter Tamara. Lena was a down to earth, serious minded person who always kept busy baking and cooking delicious food and pastries, crocheting and knitting. She loved to garden and look after her flowers. She was a fabulous dressmaker, specializing in designing and sewing gowns for entire bridal parties. Lena will be remembered by a multitude of brides for her beautiful creations.
