LAWRENCE HRYHORYSHYN Mr. Lawrence Hryhoryshyn, beloved husband of Iris of Yorkton, SK passed away November 20, 2004 at Yorkton. He was 65 years of age. Lawrence and Iris resided in Winnipeg for over 20 years. Prior to his retirement and moving to Yorkton, Lawrence was employed with Canadian National Railways, at the Transcona Shops. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Iris; son Conrad of Yorkton; daughters, Carrie Hryhoryshyn of Winnipeg and Corinne (Randy Black) of Portage La Prairie; brothers, Gordon (Donna) of Victoria, Arnie (Sylvia) of Calgary; sister Cornelia (Bob) Cavers of Calgary; and numerous other relatives and friends. Prayer service will be held on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton. The Requiem Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian catholic Church in Yorkton. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date. KATARINA KIRCHHOFER

KATARINA (KAY) KIRCHHOFER (nee REICHARDT) "NANA" Peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at the Riverview Health Centre, Katarina Kirchhofer of Winnipeg, passed away at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family. Kay is survived by her only daughter, Etheline (Etty) and husband Larry Schaefer. Also her grandchildren, Brian Schaefer, Kathy (Bob) Carter, Susan (Darren) Shaw and her great-grandchildren, Justin and Jillian Carter and Carissa and Braden Shaw. Nana was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1981; both her parents, Josef and Teresia Reichardt; brothers, Franz, Josef, Peter; and sister Barbara in infancy. Katarina was born icon April 4, 1914 in Karlsdorf, Yugoslavia. In 1932 she left her mother and brothers and immigrated to Canada to join her brother Joe. In Winnipeg she she met and married icon the love of her life Joseph on April 30, 1933. A year later they were blessed with their only daughter Etheline. Nana worked tirelessly to provide for her family. After Nana and Pops established their home in Winnipeg's North End, they took on the role of caretakers at the Canadian German Society at the corner of Mountain and McGregor. After moving back to their house, Nana assumed other domestic positions outside her home. Upon retirement, Kay took great pride and joy in caring for her grandchildren and later on for her great-grandchildren. Nana enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and baking. Never did a special occasion pass that there was not one of Nana's famous tortes on the table. There were just never enough hours in the day for Nana! A celebration of Nana's life will be held on Tuesday, November 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Gelhorn will be officiating. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Drs. Krepart, Lotocki and Haywood, and Irene of CancerCare Manitoba. We would also like to thank homecare for all their support, especially Darlene for her patience with Nana. Special thanks to all the staff on the palliative care ward, Third Floor East, Riverview Health Centre for their wonderful care and compassion. To Betty and Andrea for being there. Pallbearers will be Brian Schaefer, Bob Carter, Darren Shaw, Justin Carter, Robert Tropak, and John Tropak. JOHN "WAYNE" KONOWALCHUK 1964 - 2004 Suddenly, on November 19, 2004 Wayne passed away at his residence at the age of 40 years. Wayne leaves to mourn his passing his wife MaryAnne; daughter Rebecca Joyce; brother James; nieces, Sharon (Gordon) Haldorson, Donna Heintzman; nephew David (Belinda) Konowalchuk; great-nieces and great-nephews, Curtis and Dylan Winters, Mercedes Haldorson, Devin and Deidra Heintzman, Dustin Brown, Destiny McFayden and Derek and Robyn Konowalchuk. Wayne especially will be missed by special friends, Sharon, Larry, Tyler, Kerri, Pat and Mike and numerous friends and family that Wayne has touched throughout his life. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary and sister Joyce Bazilewich. Wayne was born icon and raised in Winnipeg, where he attended Mulvey and met most of his longtime friends. He moved on to attend Gordon Bell High and Daniel MacIntyre. Wayne played hockey for the Broadway Bears. He loved music which led him to run his own DJ business "Rolling In Stereo". Wayne enjoyed racing for several years at the the Winnipeg Speedway as he was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed spending weekends away with his family and friends at the cabin at Betula Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Wayne loved the many family vacations with his wife and daughter to various tropical resorts. Wayne also ran the Konowalchuk Care Home for many years since the passing of his parents. Wayne was a caring and lively individual who was embraced deeply by all who knew him. Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. SAM T. MAH It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Sam Mah, peacefully at the Seven Oaks Hospital on Friday, November 19, 2004, surrounded by his family at his side. Predeceased by Shue Ngor Wong. Sam is survived by his wife Rose Mah; children, Evelyn Wong (Art), Lonnie Whipple (Dan), Peter Mah (Cheri) and Paul Mah (Carol); grandchildren, Lena Fong, Henry Wong, Harry Wong (Ruby Wong), Cathy Young (Kevin), Mark Whipple, Jeff Mah (Allison), Kimberly Mah, Jennifer Mercer (Tony), Robert Mah (Laura) and Susan Mah; great-grandchildren, Charlene Fong, Brandon Fong, Christopher Wong, Matthew Wong, Jett Young, Teagan Mah, Lauren Mercer and Alex Mercer. Sam was a successful restaurant entrepreneur until his retirement. He devoted his time to family and a wide circle of friends and the Chinese community. He enjoyed simple pleasures of life, and was strong willed and very independent to the very end. Sam participated in the Chinese Theatre Group in his younger years, and in later years loved Chinese music and opera. He supported and was a member of many community organizations, most notably the Winnipeg Dramatic Society, Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre and Sek On Toi Seniors Housing Association. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 22, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 23, at 11:30 a.m. also in the chapel. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Our dad was loved by all and will be sorrowfully missed by friends and family. Norman lived most of his life in Sandridge, MB, but was always very proud that he was born icon in Saskatchewan. He always loved people to drop by for visits and to sit and drink coffee. He is also survived by sister Joyce Olsen (Glenn) of Teulon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lilly McCarthy, Irene Olson, Marjorie Fox, Alice (Roy) Plumptre, Alma (Herman) Olsen of Teulon, Violet (Gerry) Barker of Vancouver, Frieda Jorheim of Inwood, Bill (Verna) Jorheim of St. Andrews, Norman (Ingrid) Jorheim of Selkirk, Ole Jorheim of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty; father Richard; mother Alice; brothers-in-law, Ed, John, Harry, Clarence (Pearl), Bert and Frank. You were always there when we needed you. No task to great or small, With a loving heart and a willing hand, For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the times we shared. We only pray when you left us You knew how much we cared. From all of us who love you! EDWARD PHILIP RATHGEBER Edward Philip Rathgeber, beloved husband of wife Elsie (nee Rangno) and loving father to his daughter Arlene (Clenard) and son Don, passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the age of 91 years. His daughter-in-law Leslie, grandchildren Alan and David, sister Mat Gauer, numerous nieces and nephews further survive Edward. He was predeceased by his sister Mary and three brothers, Arthur, Jack and Karl. Edward was born icon in Brandon, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg in the 1930's where he began a very successful business career with Western Grocers (now Westfair Foods Ltd.), being appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 1968. He retired in 1973. Edward also had many personal interests. Among these, he was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and nature lover, played golf avidly and well, enjoyed woodworking and had a private pilot's license. Particular passions were his cottage life at Sandy Hook and cruise-line travelling. He often said You know, I've had a wonderful life! Most importantly, he was a devoted, loving, and faithful husband to Elsie throughout their 68 years of marriage, a wonderful father to Arlene and Don, and a steadfast support to all of his family members. Friends and family will remember him as a true gentleman, who was reliable, fair, honest, and generous and with a fine sense of humour. Per Edward's wishes, there will be no funeral service. HAROLD LEWIS SYLVIA Sunrise: April 29, 1930 Sunset: November 19, 2004 Peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on November 19, 2004. Harold leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years Gerri, daughter Romona, grand-daughter Elyshia, aunt Dot of Montreal, cousin Ella May and husband Garret of Shilo, MB and numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his mother Ella Mae, father Bernard, and brother Henry Desmond. Harold was born icon in New Glasgow, NS. Harold led an active life and was in the Picton Highland Corp at an early age. Harold came to Winnipeg in 1951 to work for CNR. He met Gerri, the love of his life for 53 years. They were married icon and lived in Vancouver for a short time before returning to settle in Winnipeg. In 1969 he left CNR to sell cars with Midway Chrysler and then with Transcona Dodge, where he remained until his retirement. Harold enjoyed many happy hours entertaining family and friends, as well as, travelling to see a large part of the world. As part of Harold's legacy, he helped to instil a spirit of community service in his family and friends. For many years he was a member of the Masonic Family. He served as Past Master of Transcona Lodge No. 123. He served as Past District Deputy Grand Master of District No. 10. He was a member of Kilcona Lodge No. 183. He served as Past Master of Regent Lodge No. 5, Minnesota Jurisdiction. Harold was also active in the OES, where he served as Worthy Grand Patron, Minnesota Jurisdiction. His true passion was being an active member of the Khartum Shrine Temple. He was not only a member but he served as Past President of the Directors Staff, where he loved the opportunity of being a large part of the Shrine Circus. Viewing will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23 with the service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Ravon Rainey officiating. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fine and staff in Dialysis in St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. Paul Chochinov and staff, Dr. Ibini and staff at Concordia Hospital, Home Care Services Margaret, Kim and Debbie, all the nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital on 5E especially Chad, Gloria and Stephanie, Herb Carvery, Les and Dorie, Beulah, Gloria and Donny, Carl, Rev. Kibwaa and Elizabeth, Chris and Peter. The family wishes to send special thanks to the many friends and family in Edmonton, Vancouver, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin, and finally all the neighbours who offered their condolences, baked goods and meals.
