Cairns, Kenneth Harry (Kenny)
Kenny was born August 28, 1943 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He passed away on August 15, 2011 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. As a child, Kenny lived on a farm with his parents, Marie and Harry Cairns, and his 6 siblings, in Drink Water, Saskatchewan. They later moved to Regina where Kenny attended High school. Right out of High School, Kenny became an Iron Worker, and that was his life long career. He made many friends “Brothers”, travelled the world, and was a “renowned” story teller, relating his many experiences. He leaves to mourn the loss of his life, three sons Greg, Troy and Ryan; Four Sisters Vera, Mary Ann, Barbara and Yvonne, Brother Howard and their families. He was predeceased by his sister Anita. Also to mourn his loss are his 5 grandchildren Jessica, Brandon, Dylan, Tyler, Riley and 3 step- grandchildren, Jaxon, Kennedy, Kale and their mother Naomi. Also left to grieve is Kenny’s life friend Mary Christine Lund and her family, Connie, Chris, Carol and their families. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River, Alberta.

Connop, Richard
Richard Connop passed away on July 9, 2011 at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his wife, Vivienne of Okotoks, his daughter Charmaine Connop-Scollard, son-in-law Kenneth Scollard, grandson Sterling Connop-Scollard all of Calgary, and his brother James of Bragg Creek. He is also survived by his nieces Christine Spring Gifford (Peter) of Calgary, Germaine Spring-Smith (Nigel) of Priddis, Brenda Sourisseau (David) of Bragg Creek, Anita Spring (Walter Wabischewich) of Millarville, Kim Smith (Lyle) of Nanton, Maurine Spring of Calgary, and nephew Keith Titterington of Calgary. He was predeceased by his father Sydney Mosley Connop in 1964, mother Agnes Connop in 1989, sister Vivian Titterington in 2003, and brother George Connop in 2004. Richard was born in Bragg Creek, Alberta on April 25, 1920. He spent more than four years with the Royal Canadian Air Force, 409 Squadron, after volunteering for service near the beginning of World War II. With the exception of his military service, Richard spent his entire life ranching in the Bragg Creek, Millarville and Okotoks areas. He was an accomplished horseman and was known for the excellent quality of his cattle. He drew extensively on his skills as a mechanic. Talented in many areas, Richard especially enjoyed braiding. So many of us are grateful for the gift of knowing Richard and the courage, strength, motivation, patience, gentleness and commitment he exemplified. The family wishes to thank the staff at High River Hospital for their caring attention.

Gill, Barry
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barry Gill at the Black Diamond Hospital on Sunday, August 7 2011. Barry is survived by his loving family, mother Stella Goodrich of Longview, Sister Joyce (Don Filan) of Dewinton, Brother’s Stan Gill of Longview, Roger (Sandra) of Edmonton and Aunts, Uncles, Cousin, Nieces and Nephews and many friends. Barry was predeceased by his father and two sisters Janet and Gaylene. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, August 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River. In Lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Barry’s name to the Salvation Army 1006B 11 Ave SE, High River, Alberta, T1V 1P2 or the Canadian Cancer Society 200-325 Manning Rd N.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2E 2P5.

Hill, Patricia Joyce
Hill, Patricia Joyce, of High River, formerly of Taber, AB. and Markdale, ON., passed away peacefully at the High River Hospital, on June 29, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Pat will be dearly missed by her children: Barry (Jeanette) of Airdrie, Glen (Lynne) of Owen Sound, ON., Anne (Bob) Simington of High River, Becky (Andrè) Vien of Kelowna, B.C., Vivien (Nolin) Boyer of Blumenhof, SK. She will remain in the hearts of her grandchildren: Andrea, Steven, Vickie, Jenny, Alex, Ivan, Brian and Wyatt and her great grandchildren Kayla and Bailey as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Delbert and sisters Vivien Lemon and Joan Kennedy. Pat was born on June 18, 1920 at Woodford, England to John and Gertrude Kipling. She married Delbert Hill in 1943 and as a war bride came to Canada in 1947 settling in Markdale, ON. where they farmed for eighteen years and raised their family. In 1977 Pat and Delbert retired to Taber where Pat remained until 2004. She relocated to High River to live with her daughter Anne for six years and most recently lived out her past year at the High River Nursing Home. Pat’s family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Sarah Makhdoom for her compassion and friendship as well as the staff at the nursing home for the care given to Mom. We know that she appreciated you all so much. A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date. If desired, in memory of Pat, memorial donations may be made to the High River District Health Care Foundation (Palliative Care/ Home Care) 560 – 9th Ave. W., High River, Alberta T1V 1B3.

Hofmann, Rainer
Rainer Hofmann, beloved son of Ella and Otto Hofmann of DeWinton, AB passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at the age of 56 after a short battle with cancer. Rainer is survived by his mother and father, Ella and Otto Hofmann, son and daughter, Stephen and Christine Hofmann, sister and brother in law, Linde and Ted Pidgeon and niece Jennifer Pidgeon. Born in Calgary, Rainer lived and farmed in the De Winton area and was an active member of the Lions Club in Okotoks. A memorial service will be held at Okotoks Evangelical Free Church, 28 Westland Road, Okotoks, AB on Wednesday August 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception. Memorial donations in Rainer’s memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Canada, Prairies Region, Calgary Chapter, 2020 10 Street N.W. Calgary, AB T2M 3M2.

Lockton, Geraldine Elizabeth Ursula, nee: Percevel
Lockton, Geraldine Elizabeth Ursula, nee: Percevel of Nanton, passed away at the High River Hospital on July 16, 2011 at the age of 72 years. Geraldine will be dearly missed by her siblings: Frederick (Connie) Percevel of Nanton, Donald (Nora) Percevel of Nanton, Elizabeth “Shorty” (Bill) Ard of Langley, B.C. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces Heather Percevel, Alisha and Jose Tinoco, Lindsay and Dave Strang and Morgan Ard. She was predeceased by her husband Roy in 2010 and her parents Fred and Geraldine Percevel Sr. Prayer Services were said at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 2308 – 19 Street, Nanton, on Thursday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Fr. Angelo J. D’Costa celebrant. In lieu of flower, memorial donations in Geraldine name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes. Mack, Thelma Annie
Mack, Thelma Annie, formerly of Nanton, passed away at the Bow View Manor, Calgary, on July 29, 2011 at the age of 93 years. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Elmer Mack as well as her brothers Russell, Arthur, Gordon & Ralph. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Gwen & Marjorie Lyon, as well as numerous nieces & nephews: Judy (Bill) Carr, Cheryl (Sten) Lundberg, Lorne (Myrna) Lyon, Dwight (Wendy) Lyon, Bruce (Peggy) Lyon, Keith (Evelyn) Lyon, Glen Lyon, Mary (Joseph) Scales, Donald (Sherry) Lyon, Gerald Lyon, Doug (Doris) Lyon, Wayne (Wendy) Lyon and their families, and two step-granddaughters Diane Moore & Marsha (Ted) Schad. A Funeral Service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River, on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jeff Enfield officiating. Messerli, Marguerite
Marguerite Messerli, a resident of Claresholm, formerly of Nanton, passed away at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, Claresholm at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her son Gene (Ev) Messerli, Nanton and her daughters Joan (Gary) Cooper, Nanton, Linda (Doug) Meneice, High Prairie and Trish (Harry) Streeter, Nanton. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Nanton on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m. Celebrant The Rev. Father Angelo D’Costa. Interment to follow at Nanton Cemetery. Nadon, Terry
Terry Alfred Nadon passed away peacefully with his family at his side, at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre on August 6, 2011 at the age of 69 years. He survived by his wife Olga of 44 years, his two sons Randy (Kim) and Christopher, as well as his four grandchildren. Terry was born in Portage La Prairie. He was store and district manager for Consumers Distributing for 15 years in Calgary, Halifax and Red Deer. He was very proud of and absolutely loved this job. For the last ten years of his working life he was a security guard at the front entrance of Cargill Foods in High River. At Terry’s request, there will be no service. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 201, 222- 58 Ave. S.W., Calgary, AB, T2H 2S3.

Powell, Louisa Kathleen (McClelland) Nee: Jones
January 18, 1920 – July 17, 2011
Louisa Powell passed away peacefully at High River Extended Care on the morning of July 17, 2011 at the age of 91. Mom has graciously “Gone Home” to rejoin her saviour. Louisa married Walter McClelland on October 11, 1939 and together they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Louisa was predeceased by Walter in 1983. Walter and Louisa were blessed with three daughters: Anita Louise (Doug), Sheila Kathleen (Bob), and Darlene Viola (Bernie). Cherished grandchildren are: Scott (Kelsey), Jordana (Eric), Padric (Kimberly), Brett (Tammie), Jessica (Brad), Courtney (Matt), Tanya (Al), Melissa (Drew), and Taylor. As well as many great-grandchildren. Louisa married John Powell on August 19, 1989 with all of her grandchildren standing up with them. She was predeceased by John in 2008. Louisa lived a full life, filled with good health, many laughs and great love. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Louisa’s Life was held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. and Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River. Prevost, Clifford W.
Prevost, Clifford W., of High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on July 24, 2011 at the age of 84 years.
Cliff will be dearly missed by his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Lou, son Steve (Cecile) of Saskatoon, SK.
His memory will be forever cherished by his grandchildren Ysanne and her daughter Samantha, Adam (Jennifer Kiel) and their daughters Kalie and Sydney all of Saskatoon, SK. as well as his brother-in-law Jack Austin.
Cliff taught at Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon as a Machinist Instructor until his retirement in 1987.
Following his retirement Cliff and Betty Lou enjoyed some time living on Vancouver Island before settling in High River where Cliff remained until his passing.
A Memorial Service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River, on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow. If desired, in memory of Cliff, memorial donations may be made to Heaven Can Wait.
