ALBERT CLARENCE ("FERGIE") FERGUSON Albert Clarence ("Fergie") Ferguson passed away on Monday, November 22, 2004 at the age of 91. He is survived by sons, Mark (and wife Jill) and Blair (and wife Ruth), along with six grandchildren
, Adam, Eric, Ian, Annabel, Thomas and Jane. Fergie's wife Maybelle passed away on February 21, 2003. Fergie was born
on April 16, 1913 in Morden, MB, where his father had a blacksmithing business. Fergie received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1939. Fergie joined the Canadian Army and served in the Second World War in Britain, North Africa, Italy, Holland and Germany during 1941 to 1945 as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After the War, Fergie continued his studies at the University of Minnesota where he received an M.S in 1948 and a Ph.D. in 1951 in Plant Genetics. During graduate school he worked in Colorado as a plant breeder, where he met Maybelle Francis Quinn. Maybelle and Fergie were married
in 1948. They lived in Fort Collins, Colorado from 1948 to 1955, where Fergie was Associate Professor at Colorado A&M College, and where their two sons, Mark and Blair, were born. During 1955 to 1957, the family lived in Lebanon, where Fergie was Professor at the American University of Beirut. They then moved to Winnipeg, MB. Fergie was Professor in Plant Science at the University of Manitoba from 1957 until his retirement in 1978. Fergie was well known and respected in North America as an expert and educator in the field of turfgrass. He worked in this area for many years as a consultant to the Royal Canadian Golf Association. In addition, while in Winnipeg, Fergie served for 10 years as a trustee to the Fort Garry School Board. Following Maybelle's retirement from the University of Manitoba in 1987, Fergie and Maybelle moved to Victoria, BC. A memorial service will be held at the University of Victoria Chapel on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Graduate Center at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

CLARENCE FONTAINE With grief and shock, the family announces the sudden passing of our brother, father, grandfather and uncle on Friday, November 19, 2004. Clarence was born
on January 28, 1937 at Pine Falls, MB. Heavy are our hearts today as we mourn the loss of a loved one. Our loss is great, we'll not complain, but hope to meet in heaven again. Our brother Clarence was predeceased by our parents, William George Fontaine and Elizabeth Ann Fontaine, baby brother William Nelson and sister Lisa Wilson and also by grandparents Joseph and Eliza Jane Morrisseau and Serges and Mary Fontaine. He leaves to cherish his memory, Christine; sons, Carl (Leona), Todd (Elizabeth), Troy and Darren; and daughters, Geraldine (Rob), Angela (Greg) and Valerie. Also to cherish his memory are his siblings, brothers, Martin Fontaine (Grace), Lawrence Fontaine, Matthew Fontaine (Emma); Ernest Fontaine and Nelson Fontaine (Rose); sisters, Florence Fontaine (George), Julie Paul (Cecil), Lena Guimond (Francois), Myrtle Fontaine (Ron). Clarence also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces, too many to mention. Pallbearers are Tyrone Fontaine (grandson), nephews, Cyril Fontaine, Claude Guimond, Chris Fontaine, Derrick Fontaine, Keith Fontaine. Wake services to be held at Sagkeeng First Nation at St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church Hall. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday at 2:00 p.m. November 26 at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church, Fort Alexander with Fr. Jerry Sembrano officiating. Interment in the St. Alexander Parish Cemetery. Lunch will be served in the St. Alexander Church Hall after the service. Everyone is welcome. HARVEY WILLIAM HENDERSON 1936 - 2004 Peacefully on Friday, November 19, 2004, Harvey William Henderson passed away at Riverview Health Centre. Harvey is survived by his daughter Marion Henderson-Lane (Keith) of Nova Scotia; and his son Gregory Henderson (Tina) of Mississauga; his three grandsons, Brett and Ryan Lane and Aaron Henderson. Also his sisters, Doreen Forbes and Marion Fox and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his older brother James Henderson in 1993. Harvey was born
July 29, 1936 in Winnipeg to Beatrice and Walter Henderson. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy as an ERA. He left the Navy in 1965 working as Chief Maintenance Engineer for Calverts in Gimli and later the Municipal Hospitals in Winnipeg, retiring in 1994. Harvey resided at Jocelyn House for the past few months and the family would like to thank the staff for the care and comfort given him. Cremation has taken place and at his request his cremated remains will be sent to his children in Nova Scotia to be cast to the sea. VAUGHAN HUMPHREYS Vaughan Humphreys passed away in Winnipeg on November 22, 2004. Predeceased by his parents, William (1943) and Janet (nee Jones, 1979); brothers, Pryce (1998) and John (1997); sister Betty Adams (1998); his first wife Edna (nee Everett, 1971); and his second wife Josie (Restiaux, 2001). Vaughan is survived by a son Grant; daughter-in-law Marianne; and daughters, Jan (Bob) Petri of Falcon Lake, MB and Sallie (Jerry) Pierson of Estevan, SK. He is also survived by grandsons, Michael and Wayne Humphreys and Jay Pierson of Estevan; granddaughters, Karla Petri (Rick Hawe) and Robin Petri (Dane Doleman) both of Vancouver, BC, Darcy Pierson and Kelly Pierson (Logan Martin) both of Estevan; and three great-grandchildren, Griffen and Zoe Hawe and Riley Doleman all of Vancouver. His sister Marge Mercier of Winnipeg also survives him. Vaughan was born
on September 4, 1915 in Fort Garry, leaving school at age 12 to work in the family business, William Humphreys' Fort Rouge Dairy. After the death of his father, Vaughan moved his family to Winnipeg where he was hired by the City of Winnipeg, retiring in 1978. Vaughan enjoyed his cottages at Colman's Tourist Park, Eleanor Lake and lastly White Lake. He was an excellent gardener and an avid fisherman and hunter. Good times were spent dancing and socializing at the Belgian Club and the German Club. Vaughan has been a resident of Concordia Place Personal Care Home since November 2000. Sincere appreciation is extended to the 3rd floor staff, Concordia Place for their compassionate care and to Marge Mercier, Elaine Bennett, Shirley Jackson and Laraine Thio for their visits and many acts of kindness. GLORIA JANSEN On Friday, November 19, 2004 with dignity and grace, Gloria June Jansen aged 60, departed this earth to become one of God's special angels. Left to mourn her passing are Gloria's husband and soul mate Jack; son Duane; daughter-in-law Karin; grandchildren, Kurtis, Derek and Amy; mother Mary Korol; sisters, Shirley (Len) and Darlene; sister-in-law Susan; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Gloria was predeceased by her brother George and father Marion. Gloria was a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend but most of all she was an inspiration. Gloria never focused on her health problems despite living with diabetes. for 57 years, followed by a bout with cancer. Instead, her concern was always for others, which has left an imprint on all our hearts. Special thanks to Dr. Cramer and the incredible nurses and doctors at Grace Hospital ICU who tried so valiantly to save Gloria. JOHN "WAYNE" KONOWALCHUK 1964 - 2004 Suddenly, on November 19, 2004 Wayne passed away at his residence at the age of 40 years. Wayne leaves to mourn his passing his wife MaryAnne; daughter Rebecca Joyce; brother James; nieces, Sharon (Gordon) Haldorson, Donna Heintzman; nephew David (Belinda) Konowalchuk; great-nieces and great-nephews, Curtis and Dylan Winters, Mercedes Haldorson, Devin and Deidra Heintzman, Dustin Brown, Destiny McFayden and Derek and Robyn Konowalchuk. Wayne especially will be missed by special friends, Sharon, Larry, Tyler, Kerri, Pat and Mike and numerous friends and family that Wayne has touched throughout his life. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary and sister Joyce Bazilewich. Wayne was born
and raised in Winnipeg, where he attended Mulvey and met most of his longtime friends. He moved on to attend Gordon Bell High and Daniel MacIntyre. Wayne played hockey for the Broadway Bears. He loved music which led him to run his own DJ business "Rolling In Stereo". Wayne enjoyed racing for several years at the the Winnipeg Speedway as he was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed spending weekends away with his family and friends at the cabin at Betula Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Wayne loved the many family vacations with his wife and daughter to various tropical resorts. Wayne also ran the Konowalchuk Care Home for many years since the passing of his parents. Wayne was a caring and lively individual who was embraced deeply by all who knew him. Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. DR. ALICE EVELYN LOADMAN (nee GAMBLE) Peacefully on November 22, 2004, after a lengthy illness, beloved mother of Mary and Nancy. She was born
on January 23, 1916 in Cardiff, Wales, the daughter of Ernest and Alice Leily Gamble (nee Hanes). She and her family came to Winnipeg, Canada in 1927 eventually settling in Norwood. Evelyn attended Earl Grey and Kelvin High Schools. She then began a distinguished academic career, culminating in her medical degree. Evelyn went on to specialize in pediatrics and spent many happy and productive years working for the City of Winnipeg and the Child Development Clinic of the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. In 1942 she married
Dr. Bruce Loadman and together they had four children, Allison, Susan, Mary and Nancy. She will always be remembered as a wise and loving mother and a very actively involved grandmother. Evelyn was a true and loyal friend. She met and overcame many adversities with determination, grace and humour. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Bruce; sister Winnifred; and her beloved daughters, Susan and Allison. She is survived by her daughters, Mary and Nancy and sons-in-law Christopher Fultz and Timothy Fultz, and Derek Lloyd; as well as her sister-in-law Rita Loadman. She will always live in the hearts and minds of her grandchildren, Jennifer, Joanna, Ben and Megan Fultz and Matthew and Jonathan Lloyd. She enjoyed a fond relationship with nephews Don and Gordon Loadman and Alan Richmond and families, and niece Lois Eadie and family. The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at Poseidon Care Centre for their kind, attentive care. We also deeply appreciated the care given to Evelyn by the staff and doctors at the Victoria Hospital. IAN FREDERICK MacKICHAN November 24, 1919- November 21, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ian Frederick MacKichan, beloved husband of Margaret, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84. Ian was born
November 24, 1919, the youngest child of Frederick and Hannah MacKichan. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Fairburn; and sisters, Dugalda, Isabel, Winona, Mary and Mildred. He was so proud of his family and is survived by Margaret, his wife of 55 years; son Tom (Pat); daughter Penny (Gaetan) Joyal; his precious granddaughter, Christine; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Ian spent his life in Winnipeg, except for his years of service from 1941 to 1945 with the RCAF in Europe. He and Margaret settled in St. Vital to raise their family. Ian retired from the Post Office in 1979 after 23 years of service. During retirement, they spent several winters in Texas and enjoyed travel, many bus tours, golf and time with family and friends. A service will be held on Wednesday, November 24 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with interment and reception to follow. LEONARD DENISON McMURRAY Leonard Denison McMurray died peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2004, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg at the age of 86. He was the only child of Douglas and Nora McMurray. Leonard is survived by Grace, his loving wife of 61 years; and their four children, Barbara Kirk (Brian) of Winnipeg, Shanly Donahue (Jack) of Calgary, Douglas (Jola) of Mexico, and Suzanne of Vancouver; his dear grandchildren, James (Rebecca), Graham and Andrew of Winnipeg, and Kate, Ashley, Meghan and Christie of Calgary. Leonard served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940 - 1945. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, later serving as National President of the Navy League of Canada from 1970 - 1972. He was a graduate of St. John's Ravenscourt School, and later served as Chairman of the Board. He joined Investors Syndicate of Canada in 1947 and retired in 1983 as President of Investors Syndicate Realty. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and "The Lodge", and was a director on the Board of Ducks Unlimited Canada for many years. He served his church faithfully, and was a founding Director of St. George's Memorial Fund Inc. He enjoyed golf with his many friends, and will be sadly missed by "The Boys of Friday". Leonard was a kind and gentle man who will be remembered with love by all who knew him. A special thanks to Dr. John Rabson, and to the nursing staff on 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital. A memorial service in honour of Leonard will be held on Thursday, November 25 at 3:00 p.m. at St. George's Church Crescentwood, 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg. JOHN G. PATERSON September 2, 1921 - November 21, 2004 Peacefully, with his family at his side, John passed away on Sunday November 21, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital. John was predeceased by his first wife, Doreen; brother, Archie; sisters, Nancy Thain and Elizabeth Leighton. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory his loving wife of 30 years, Diane; sons, John Gary; Richard (Marlene); his grandchildren, Matthew and Suzanne; brother-in-law, Doug (Adie) Mathais; sister-in-law, Jan (Louis) Nemeth and their son, Louis (Lee). He is also survived by numerous other relatives and good friends. John will be fondly remembered for his strong sense of family and how important they were to him. He has shared with them his love of golf, curling and many other sports. The outdoors were special to him but not as important as spending time with his family and friends. They will remember his wonderful sense of humour and the laughter and joy he brought to everyone. For 42 years, John worked for Winnipeg Hydro before retiring in 1981. Over the years John enjoyed curling at the Civic Caledonian and Deer Lodge Curling Clubs and golf at the Pine Ridge Golf Club. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, November 25 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow. The family extends a special thank you to the nursing staff on 3 South at the Victoria General Hospital for the wonderful care given to John during his stay there. Flowers are gratefully declined. in St. Ouens (Beausejour) MB, on July 21, 1932. He resided on the family farm until October 2001 at which time he relocated to Oak Bank, MB. He worked at Atomic Energy in Pinawa, MB until his retirement in 1991. He had a great love for life and his family and will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years Lavina; son Shawn (Louise); daughter Pamela (Jack Gann); cherished grandchildren, Elyssa, Julia and Nathaniel Rattai, and baby Asher Gann. He is survived by his three sisters, Grace (Abe) Krahn, Donna (James) Storsely, Sharon (Ralph) Dickinson; and one brother Gerald (Arlene) Rattai. He was predeceased by his father Adolph (1988); mother Magdalena (January 2004); and infant grand-daughter, Victoria (2002).
