ALMA SINGLE (nee SCHWARK) On Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Concordia Hospital, Alma Single passed away at the age of 84. Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Allyson (Walter) Betker of Winnipeg and Patricia Single of Toronto; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Betker; her sisters, Dorothy Gryte and Stephanie (Harold) Berntzen; in-laws, Edna Single, Agnes and Jack Mohr and Irene and Arnold Mauthe. Predeceased by her husband Robert; her parents, William and Martha Schwark; her sisters, Viola Schultz, Frieda Bohemier and Lorraine Livingston. She was born icon June 14, 1920. She lived in Morris and Winnipeg until marrying Robert Single on May 17, 1947. They moved to Waldersee where they ran the grocery store for many years. She loved playing the organ, sewing, baking and reading her many cookbooks. MARY-ANN SLATER (BARTON) (nee NOWICKI) Mary-Ann Slater of Calgary passed away at the Sarcee Hospice on Sunday, November 21, 2004. Mary-Ann was born icon in Cooks Creek, MB. She worked for St. John's Ambulance in Winnipeg. Mary-Ann moved to Alberta and worked for C.P. Rail, where she met and married icon Andy Barton. She raised her family in Calgary and then worked for the Calgary Police Service, and for the Provincial Courts from where she retired. She will be remembered by her two sons, Darcy Barton and Kevin Barton both of Calgary; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and John Hart of Okotoks, and Stacee Barton of Calgary; three grandchildren, Ashlee Hart, Jonathon Barton, and Tyler Hart; and a great-grandson Jayden Clearihue-Hart. She is also survived by a brother Paul Nowicki; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ernie Maddaford; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Dot Nowicki; and a sister and brother-in-law Diane and Jules Peallars; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary-Ann was predeceased by her parents, John and Annie Nowicki; infant brother Joseph Nowicki; and her second husband Frank Slater. MARIE SWITZER (nee BUGERA) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Marie Switzer, aged 84 years on Saturday, November 20, 2004. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Janne, Patricia (Charles) Hawkes; grandsons, Ward and Phillip; and sister Tillie (Bill) Lowe. She was predeceased by her husband Jack; sisters Ann, Kay and Sophie; and brothers Peter and Nick. Marie was born icon and raised in the beautiful Shell River Valley. She attended Merridale School. As a young wife and mother, she briefly lived in Toronto and then in Sioux Lookout for many years, where she was a familiar face behind the concession counter at the Mayfair Theatre. In 1961 the family moved to Winnipeg at which time Marie took up a position in the hospitality industry. The Manitoba Hotel Association presented her (1984) with a Loyalty Award for 22 years of dedicated service at the Charter House Hotel. Marie loved all things beautiful. She appreciated and attractively set table and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was passionate about plants, birds and cats. In her later years she became an accomplished watercolourist, and an avid golfer. Above all Marie loved to dance. She was a long time member of Club 66 and she participated in many activities at the Lions Place Centre. A celebration of Marie's life will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. Loving mother of David Thexton (Susan) of Truro, NS, Diane Thexton (Collin) of Peterborough, ON, Donna Pintar (John) of Waterloo, ON and Doug Thexton (Laura Knowles) of Peterborough, ON. Nana to Jennifer and Tiffany Thexton, Connie, Chris and Beck Herod, Stephanie, Mark and Eric Pintar, Wayne and Shuster. Sister of Albert Sturney (Mary) and June Madden (Frank) both of Winnipeg. Audrey will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. JENNIE (GIOVANNINA) TINO Peacefully with her family at her side our beloved Mother, Nanna and Sister lost her courageous battle and quietly passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital on Monday, November 22, 2004 at the age of 78. Mom was born icon in Winnipeg on August 27, 1926 the eldest daughter of Joseph and Giacomina (Jean) Marino. She was raised and attended school in the Fort Rouge area where she still has many lifelong friends today. Mom and Dad (Frank Tino Sr.) were married icon on July 12, 1947 and resided in Transcona, where they raised four children and were well known and highly respected members of the community and Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Frank Sr. on January 1, 1995; her beloved eldest son Frank on September 11, 2003; her parents, her brother Sam Marino, and her brother-in-law Tony Porco. Mom's memory will forever be cherished and remembered by son Joe (Wendy) and their children, Joseph and Julianna; son Greg (Jean); daughter Mary Pearson (Mike); daughter-in-law Avis Tino and her children Frank and Kristina (Tim Kelly) and their children Matthew and Joshua. Also surviving are brother Peter Marino (Barbara) and sister Nancy Porco, and sister-in-law Eleanor Marino in Winnipeg and brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Frances Black of Eugene, Oregon. As well as extended family members and their children and she was a very special Auntie Jennie to numerous nieces and nephews. Mom will also be remembered by her many friends. Mom was a devoted Catholic and an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish for many years. Mom's family and friends were the centre of her universe and for many years her home as well as the summer cottage at Lester Beach was the scene of many happy celebrations and gatherings filled with her warm Italian hospitality and gentle kindness which will forever live on in our hearts. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Verrelli and the staff at P.D. Dialysis and the 3B doctors and nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the loving care given to Mom during her lengthy illness and the compassion shown to our family. The family also wishes to acknowledge and thank Mom's many friends for their acts of kindness, visits, prayers and support. Pallbearers will be: Frank Tino, Joe Porco, Michael Porco (nephew), Stephen Porco, Michael Porco (great-nephew), and Tim Kelly. ERNIE UNRUH Peacefully on November 22, 2004, Ernie passed away at Concordia Hospital at the age of 78 years. Ernie is survived by his wife Sylvia (nee Benoit); sons, David (Robyn), Don, Daryl, Dwane (Helen); daughters, Jo-Ann (Henny) and Caryl (Gary); grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Tamara, Chantal, Janel and Isabella; brothers Erwin (Jean), Warner, Vic (Kay) and Rob (Janice); sisters Ilsa (Henry), Margaret (Don), Irma and Melita; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father David and mother Olga; step-mother Agatha, brother Herb and two other brothers who passed away in their early years. Ernie was born icon April 22, 1926 in Lucky Lake, SK. He spent 23 years in Saskatchewan as teacher/politian/businessman. In 1958 he ran as the Liberal Candidate against John Diefenbaker in the Prince Albert Constituency. His career included teaching at First Nation Schools and in Prince Albert and Stony Mountain Penitentiaries. Ernie moved to Winnipeg in 1967 with his family. In 1971, he joined the Winnipeg School Division and was Vice Principal and Principal of Isaac Newton, Aberdeen, Sisler and Churchill Schools. After retirement from teaching in 1989, he worked for Henderson Hail Insurance and World's Finest Chocolates. Ernie was a great family man and he especially loved all children. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for all their care. Special thanks to Dr. Abdulrehman. Margaret is survived by her children, David (Kimberly), Glenn (Val), Allan, Carol, Sandra (Ron), Brian; her grandchildren, Lauren, Brady, Danielle, Brett, Melissa, Colin, Sean, Rod, Shane, Michael, Lisa, Jennifer, Emily, Heather, Carol, Brenda; her great-grandchildren, Damon, Braydon, Gates, Macey; brother Edgar and sister Blanche; lifelong best friend Shirley King; plus many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her son Norman in 2003, her parents and four sisters. Mom worked at St. Boniface Hospital for many years in the maternity ward which gave her great pleasure, then moving into the physiotherapy department until her retirement. She volunteered at St. Boniface Hospital day hospital program and the Lavallee School reading program working with the students. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Friday, November 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. A reception will follow the service. We would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Care Centre (especially the 2nd floor staff) for their care of Mom during her residence and their compassion during her passing. ANNA AMENT Peacefully, after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer, Anna Ament, aged 90 years, passed away on November 24, 2004. She was predeceased by newborn grandson Adam Ziegler Jr. in 1966; her beloved husband John in 1986; and grandson Bruce Wuebbolt in 1995. Anna is survived by her children, Magdalena Ziegler (Adam), Rosina Gunkel (Frederick), Clara Wuebbolt (Joseph) and Otto (Linda); 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Anna was born icon on April 12, 1914, in Filipowa, Austria-Hungary. She and John married icon in 1933 and immigrated to Canada from Austria in 1953. Anna was a devoted and loving wife, a loving and generous mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her festive family dinners were labours of love, which will be long remembered. Prayers will be said on Friday, November 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 27 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 355 Andrews St. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Robert leaves to mourn his very dear and special longtime friend Ron Collins of Vancouver. Robert was a loving and caring person who always had to carve his own way and do it his own way. At Robert's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg on Thursday, December 2 at 10:00 a.m.
