GLADYS MAY SERBIN (nee FABBRO) Peacefully on Thursday, November 25, 2004, Gladys May Serbin passed away at Golden West Centennial Lodge at the age of 81 years. Gladys was born
in Winnipeg, MB on January 8, 1923. She married
our dad, Fred on September 7, 1940, devoting her life to raising her children and adoring her grand and great-grandchildren. Mom was a fabulous cook and loved sharing meal times with her loved ones. Gladys adored babies, baseball, puppies, knitting, bingo, bowling and playing the harmonica with Fred. Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Anne; brothers, Oliver, Ernie and Bob; daughter Diane; and son Vance. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her husband of 64 years, Fred; sons, Ronald and Robert; daughter Linda; brothers, Donald and Richard; sisters, Helen and Gloria; grandchildren, Corinne and Ronald Jr., Daniele and Claudia, Wade and Douglas; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment to follow. ALMA SINGLE (nee SCHWARK) On Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Concordia Hospital, Alma Single passed away at the age of 84. Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Allyson (Walter) Betker of Winnipeg and Patricia Single of Toronto; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Betker; her sisters, Dorothy Gryte and Stephanie (Harold) Berntzen; in-laws, Edna Single, Agnes and Jack Mohr and Irene and Arnold Mauthe. Predeceased by her husband Robert; her parents, William and Martha Schwark; her sisters, Viola Schultz, Frieda Bohemier and Lorraine Livingston. She was born
June 14, 1920. She lived in Morris and Winnipeg until marrying Robert Single on May 17, 1947. They moved to Waldersee where they ran the grocery store for many years. She loved playing the organ, sewing, baking and reading her many cookbooks. OREST NICHOLAS SLOBODIAN (1933 - 2004) With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our very special, loving and caring Husband, Dad and Dgig. On November 23, 2004, Dad passed away with his family by his side at Seven Oaks Hospital. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 38 years, Olga (Ollie); daughter Paula (Brad) Havixbeck and grandson Nicholas. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Jean Slobodian; brother-in-law John (Valerie) Zuk; and many nieces and nephews whom he enjoyed spending time with. Orest was predeceased by his parents, Maxim and Anna Slobodian; his daughter Maria Francis; sisters, Katherine Nider and Annette Raby; and brother Alex Slobodian. Dad's roots were always in the north end of Winnipeg, having attended Margaret Scott, Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools. He led an active life participating in and coaching many sports including baseball and hockey. He later enjoyed bowling and golf and gained many friends through all of these activities. Dad completed his accounting education in 1971 and worked for Manitoba Hydro before spending 28 years as a self-employed accountant. He was a dedicated and longstanding member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church where he was involved with the Men's Club, helping out at bingo and being there when people needed him for other jobs. He touched many people's lives throughout his life, and he always made time for people, especially for his grandson who he loved dearly. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 29 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave., with Basilian Fathers officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Havixbeck, Walter Nider, Steve Stoyko, Jerry Yaskiewich, Ken Stoyko and Ron Simenik. ROBERT STILL Robert Still, born
January 6, 1927, passed away peacefully the morning of November 22, 2004, at Lynn Valley Care Centre. Robert will be missed by his best friend Susan; daughters, Nancy, Joanne, Barb and Ainslie; sons, Gord and Devon; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robert was a devoted member of Mount Seymour United Church. His kind heart, integrity, love of life and smile will be remembered by all who knew him. WASYL (BILL) STRUTYNSKY Suddenly and peacefully at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital, with his beloved Sophia at his side. Wasyl left this world to join his Maker, where there would be no pain and suffering. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his beloved Sophia; her granddaughter Amber Murray of Calgary, AB, who was very special to Wasyl, and his friends of the St. Joseph's Senior's Club. Wasyl was born
in Borschiw, Ukraine on February 17, 1922, immigrating to Canada in 1957, leaving his parents and sister behind in Ukraine. He was predeceased by his parents and throughout the years lost all contact with his sister. On October 22, 1962, Wasyl received his Certificate of Canadian Citizenship making him a proud Canadian. Wasyl was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Jefferson Ave. and a proud member of St. Joseph's Senior's Club. Wasyl was a very private person with a heart of gold. He did many wonderful things in his life, but he was not one to brag about it. 'Nobody knows what it means to have a loving husband who makes you happy everyday, until you come home to an empty nest and your bird has flown away.' Prayers will be sung at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, November 28 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 29 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. with a Redemptorist Father officiating. JOAN SHIRLEY THOM (nee PARK) June 29, 1930 - November 25, 2004 With deep regret Mom passed away after a brief battle with cancer at the Health Sciences Centre. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her loving husband Henry of 54 years. Her children, Robert (Peggy), Barbara, Greg (Joyce), Jeff (Jane). Her grandchildren, Robert, Kelly and Becky. Her sister Edna Patterson; brothers, Douglas Park of California and Alex Park (Barb) and many nephews and nieces. Mom loved to laugh and have a good time. She especially loved big dinners and just being around family. Mom also enjoyed travelling and spent many winters in Texas and Arizona. Mom had many interests including square dancing, gardening and playing cards with her friends. Mom loved having people around her and would welcome anyone to join them for dinner or just to chat. DOUGLAS GRAHAM THOMSON 1912 - 2004 Doug died November 20, 2004. Born September 27, 1912 in Ayr, Scotland, Doug was the eldest of five children and came to Canada in 1917. To help his family at age 15, he started at Macleod's as a runner. In 1930 Doug began his employment with Swift's Canadian and had 47 years of dedicated service. He was instrumental in the founding of the employee's Credit Union Society Ltd. and served as president. In 1939 he enlisted in the RCAF and received a honorable discharge. Doug devoted his life to his family - his wife Audrey Naomi Neal and children, Dennis Graham and Sandra Pink Joy. Doug and Audrey were married
59 years until her death in 1999. His happiest moments were in simple pleasures - reading, travelling, fishing, sports and in the last number of years cruising in "the red car", Goldeye games, car shows, cribbage with his son-in-law Ken and the treasured company of his best friend "Duffy" who was with him until the day he died. A man not easily given to expressing emotion, those that knew him understood he had a kind heart, a keen mind, a caring concern and was genuinely grateful beyond words for his family. When we cry for the loss of a loved one we cry for all the wrong reasons. We cry for what we lost not for what we gained. We lost the physical being who gave meaning to our lives and was an essential part of our world. We lost someone who listened to our troubles, guided us with his wisdom, shared our disappointments, encouraged our dreams, and provided strength and support so we could become who we are today. We gained something even greater. We gained the precious memories of joy and good times that last long after the happiest moments have passed. These memories always turn to loving thoughts of him. He still lives with us...only now he lives within us, within our hearts and this will never be lost. Doug is survived by son Dennis; grandson Troy (Maureen); great-grandsons Noah and Matthew; daughter Sandra (Ken Norquay); brother Dewar (June); sister Jean (Les Harper). His wish was for his body to be donated to research at the University of Manitoba. Tributes in his name may be made to charity in memory of Douglas Graham Thomson.

DOLORES MARIE TRINKL (nee WHITE) 1935 - 2004 Peacefully on November 24, 2004 Dolores passed away at the Riverview Health Centre with her family at her side. in Winnipeg in 1935. Before retiring, she was employed at Great-West Life Assurance Company for over 30 years as an executive secretary, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. Dolores enjoyed many years at their cottage at Twin Beaches. She loved to read and work in her garden. A special thank you to Dolores' dear friend Norma Dodge for her support and friendship, sister-in-law Dianne for all her special care and support, the Crimson Classics of the Red Hat Society and her secret sister for their kindness and her lady friends from Twin Beaches for their thoughts and prayers. BERNARD "BERNIE" TURENNE The world lost a great man Tuesday night. Husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many, Bernard Turenne will be sorely missed. Bernie passed away all-too-suddenly on November 23, 2004 in the presence of a loving sister and nephew in a comfortable and familiar environment. He was 59 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years Vivian; as well as daughter Lise and son Paul; granddaughter Abrielle; son-in-law Marty; his mother Lucille; nine brothers and sisters and dozens of cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws. He will also be grieved by the hundreds of friends, co-workers, neighbours and other people whom he's loved, affected and influenced over the years. Bernie's passing came far too soon, as he had been counting the months to 60. At 60, the world of retirement awaited the long-time civil servant, who's had meaningful careers with several organizations, namely the CBC, the Public Service Commission and most recently Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Retirement plans would have included long trips south with Viv, waterfront living at the lake, and all the hunting and fishing Manitoba's forests and rivers could handle. Bernie was a man full of life and love. He had a passion for fishing at Lac du Bonnet, Aikens Lake, and in the Duck Mountains. He loved to hunt moose and deer, and was always thrilled to be able to serve the meat to his family. He also loved to play squash, read, make wine, listen to blues music and old-time jazz, watch his nephew David play hockey, go on canoe trips, and play cards with his life-long friends Mitch and Andy, and his best friend and brother Gerry. Most of all, he will be remembered as a man who had a heart of solid gold. He loved his wife and children very much, and taught them to live life slowly, to have a good time doing it, and to never sweat the small stuff. Bernie was born

May 2, 1917 in Elmwood and resided all of her life in the Elmwood area. She worked many years for Canada Post and with the Postal Credit Union. Her favourite retreat was her cottage in Redditt, Ontario, where she enjoyed spending time with her family. Polly was a loving, devoted mother and Baba and enjoyed many hours surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Polly, through her generosity, sense of humour and friendship touched many lives during her lifetime. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for their compassionate and loving care. According to Polly's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held. DENNIS REGINALD WOODHATCH At his residence in Guelph, ON on Thursday, November 25, 2004, Dennis Reginald Woodhatch, in his 85th year, was the beloved husband of Vera (Gleadhill) Woodhatch of Guelph, ON. He was the loving father of Patricia Woodhatch and her husband David Sutherland of Guelph, ON Dennis was the proud grandfather of Brian and Kathleen. Dennis and Vera immigrated to Winnipeg from England in 1954. Dennis worked for Shell Canada in Winnipeg for 26 years. Dennis and Vera enjoyed 20 years of retirement in Oliver, B.C. where Dennis enjoyed tending to his garden and looking at the golden hills. Dennis and Vera moved to Guelph in 2000 to be near the rest of their family. Private cremation has taken place. FRANK ZEMIANSKI Frank Zemianski, beloved husband of Ella, passed away peacefully at the Regency Care Home, Surrey, BC on November 22, 2004. Frank was predeceased by his wife Ella and daughter Diane; his parents and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Marvin), Jean (Roy) and Ed, as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex (Mary), Tony (Kitty). He is survived by his son William (Gladys); son-in-law Bob; and grandchildren, Jim, Jocelyn and Alicia; and sister Chrisy; as well as many nieces and nephews. Frank was born
on February 3, 1916, to Haifa and Peter Zemianski in the Strathclair municipality. As a young man he had various jobs in the Elphinstone area as well as Winnipeg. He married
Ella Malchuk in 1941 and moved to Winnipeg. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and was discharged at the end of the Second World War. In 1944 William was born
and Diane was born
in 1951. In 1950 Frank became a plasterer by trade and continued at this work until 1972 at which time he started work at National School Services until his retirement. Frank and Ella lived for a short time in Toronto and Edmonton eventually moving back to Winnipeg in 1952 where they purchased a house on Centennial Street. In 1989 they moved to Park View Village in Calgary where he made many friends at the seniors club. In 1998 he moved to Vancouver to live with his son and family; in September 2003 he moved to the Regency Care Home in Surrey. Frank will be remembered for his funny stories, green thumb and love of life. Frank was cremated November 24. A memorial service will be held for him in Winnipeg in the Spring of 2005.
