Alfred Clark
It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Austin Clark announces his passing on Monday, September 26, 2011. He touched many lives in his 84 years and will be greatly missed by all, but most especially by his daughters Sandy and Nancy, his sons-in-law Mike and Dale and his granddaughter Lauren of whom he was so proud. Alf is predeceased by his loving wife Bev whom he missed so desperately this past year and his precious daughter Karen who he grieved for so long. They are together again now.
Alf grew up in Montreal and was an all-round high school sports star. He was on every team and he could run like the wind. His mom used to listen in on the opposition from the side lines and warn him as to how they were going to try to stop him in the second half. They rarely did. Golf became his passion and he was club champion in many of the courses he joined. He could remember hole by hole some of the famous courses he played, St. Andrews being a favorite.
Alf worked as a senior manager in the textile industry in Quebec and Ontario. He had high standards for the people who worked for him but none higher than the standards he set for himself. He always dealt with others with honesty, integrity and compassion. He was held in high regard by the industry and served for a time as President of the Textile Society of Canada. He would always shake his head when he saw people buying brand new jeans that were ripped and faded after he had worked so hard to manufacture evenly dyed denim with no imperfections. Certainly, the thing about Alf that we will all miss was his incredibly sharp wit and dry sense of humour. There is nobody he has met that will not have a story to tell about a time when Alf did or said something in that serious way of his that caught us off guard and then had us laughing. He has left us the gift of countless humorous stories to tell so we can laugh again as we remember them. It was this quietly clever way that he saw life as well as the deep caring and compassion he had for others that made him such a special husband, dad and friend. His love for his family was formidable and this love was returned to him in kind. If he learned that someone needed a little lift, he would work quietly behind the scenes to try to make things a little easier for them. He had an incredibly soft spot in his heart for children and was happy to support so many of them through World Vision. Alf was a very special person and deeply touched all those who knew him. He will be immeasurably missed.
After having such an active life, it was very difficult for Alf to cope with the effects of his strokes. Alf was, and his family is, eternally thankful for the kind and loving staff on the Second Floor of the High River Hospital who cared for him so well.

A Celebration of Harold’s Life was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River, on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Lieutenant David Bond of the High River Salvation Army Church officiated.
