Vera May Ledoux
Vera May Ledoux, Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the High River Hospital on Monday October 3, 2011, at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Percy Ledoux and loving mother to Sam (Grace) Ledoux of Cayley, Brenda Johnson of High River, Gary Ledoux of Okotoks and Bruce (Diane) Ledoux of Okotoks. Grandmother to cherished grandchildren Samantha (Frank) of Victoria B.C, Athenna (David) De La Mare, Linda (Dean) Bannerman, Wendy (LeRoy) MacKenzie, Brad Johnson all of High River, Gerry (Kim) Ledoux of Brooks, Shannon (Bill) Jenkinson of Fraser Lake B.C., Johnathan and Douglas Ledoux of Okotoks and great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Ryley and Ayden Blanchette, Dyson and Kyrah De La Mare, Taylor (Aaron) Bannerman, Morgan Bannerman, Darea, Paige, Austin MacKenzie, Jordie and Shaylee Ledoux, Jasmine, Julia, Joseph, Jaret, Jianne Jenkinson. Sadly missed by sister-in-laws Dorothy Svennes, Roberta Svennes, and Vandee Svennes.
Vera attended a one-room school in the Chinook School Region in Saskatchewan until grade 8. She then moved to Nelson B.C. and worked in the cannery. Later moving to Lethbridge and worked at the Sir Alexander Galt Hospital (in the house keeping department). She married Percy Ledoux in 1951 and they lived in Carston, New Dayton, Wrenthom, Carway, returning to New Dayton, Warner and in 1966 the family moved to Okotoks for 31 years until Percy and Vera retired to High River in 1997 and subsequently moving to the Medicine Tree Place in February of 2003 and then to the 2nd floor of the High River Hospital August 2010.
Some of Vera’s special achievements were celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with husband, Percy, making a delicious meal out of anything, working as a cook for Helen and Frank Lomenda at the White Rose Restaurant, which was awarded #1 eatery in Canada, and for Lester and Charmayne Scanlon in Okotoks for 7 years. She was well known for her knack to make the best homemade buns and bread and cinnamon buns. Her pride and joy were her family. Each one of her children, grand children and great grand children were very special to her.
She lived life to its fullest each day, always knowing what each member of the family were doing and proud of all of their accomplishments and achievements. The family were privileged to spend her last 14 hours with her as she kissed each one good- bye along with a few specially chosen words.
A celebration of Vera’s Life will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home on Thursday October 6, 2011 at 2pm. If friends so desire donations may be made to Palliative Care c/o High River District Health Care Foundation.

Charles Joseph Leaming
Charles Joseph Leaming, of Calgary, passed away surrounded by his family at the Foothills Medical Centre on September 30, 2011 at the age of 52 years.
Charlie will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Vicky. His step-children: Robyn, Evan, Katrina, Cooper and Justin and 4 grandchildren.
Charlie will also be remembered by his siblings: Barbara (Robert) Bruce, Bev (Blair) McArthur, Bonnie (Denny) Lamb, Joe Swain and Bill Leaming as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held prior to a Evening Prayer Service at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Black Diamond, on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Thursday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Frank Feldmann celebant.
If desired, memory donations may be made to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Mathews (nee: Merrit)
With saddened hearts the Mathews/Willoughby families announce the passing of Betty on September 16, 2011 at the young age of 64. Loving mother of Karen Willoughby (Shane) and Ritch Mathews (Karolyn), beloved granny of Dana Willoughby, Daniel Willoughby and Reese Mathews. Survived by her sister Sheila Rae Chorley (William McLean), niece Jennifer Dianne Chorley (Robert Mountney) and their children Britany Chorley and William Gingras. Betty was predeceased by her parents Walter and Hilda Merritt. She will be fondly remembered and forever missed. Betty (“Mom”, “Ma”, “Granny”, “G”) was born June 24, 1947 in Hamilton, ON. She has lived across Canada coast-to-coast and settled down in High River, AB for the past 15 years. Betty was an eternal giver, baking brownies, cookies and cakes, helping people clean, paint and move in their new homes and everything in between. A small service for family and close friends was held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Highwood Cemetery in High River. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (www.sllcanada.org). "LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH!"

Sam Son
Sam Son - of High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on September 9, 2011 at the age of 52 years.
Sam will be dearly missed by his wife Diep Aoang.
A Celebration of Sam’s life was be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, (reception lounge), 301 Macleod Trail, High River, on Thursday, September 15, 2011 between 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Robert "Bob" Stokes
Robert "Bob" Stokes - passed away on September 2, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife and best friend Myrna Stokes, his children and their spouses, Robert Stokes and Jo-Lynn McPhail, Patrick and Louise Stokes and Kathleen Stokes and Brian MacLean, and his loving sisters and spouses Helen and Art Murphy and Mary and Laurie (deceased) Graham and by his in-laws, Patrick and Tina Hanlon, Joyce and Blair Deveaux and Alice and Chick (deceased) Hanlon. Bob is predeceased by his parents Robert and Ethel Stokes and his sister Teresa Zolkivski. Bob’s will power and sense of purpose pushed him to continue to fight debilitating health battles. Through it all, he remained a source of strength and unceasing love for his wife and children. Bob’s warmth, humour, loyalty and laugh will be remembered and cherished by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to High River District Hospital Foundation, who provided unparalleled care and compassion in his final days. Prayer Services were said at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River at 7:00 pm on Sunday, September 4, 2011. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, September 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 206 – 9 Avenue S.W. High River. The Rev. Fr. Ed Hospet celebrant.

Pieter Wind
Pieter Wind was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the age of 93. Piet was born on August 22, 1918 in Ambt-Hardenberg, The Netherlands to Hendrik and Fokkeliena (nee: Kloosterman) Wind. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years (Oct. 15, 1942) Janny Wind (nee: Boschma) and their six children: Ineke deVries, Liesje Bosgra (Dick), Henk Wind (Cidnee), Hessel Wind (Denise), Cobi Verhoeff (Paul), Tom Wind (Angella) as well as 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. A private family interment will take place at Highwood Cemetery, High River. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, October 7 at Bethel United Reformed Church, 730 – 101 Street S.W., Calgary, at 2:00 p.m. The family is very grateful to the wonderful staff at the Beverly Care Center who treated “Opa” with care and compassion. Bearspaw, Durrelle Scott "Mum"
Bearspaw, Durrelle Scott "Mum" - passed away on October 16, 2011. Born on May 16, 1959 at High River. Durelle enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a kind, loving, generous man who liked to tease and laugh alot. In his younger days he liked to team rope. Later on he enjoyed singing and drumming, playing hockey, baseball, hunting, attending cultural camp, visiting with family and friends. Durelle attended school at Nanton, Longview, and Eden Valley. He was employed by Stoney Administration as a Security Guard at Chief Jacob Bearspaw School for a number of years. Durelle leaves to mourn his loving wife of 35 years, Cindy Ear, sons: Durelle Jr., Bradford (Jordelle) and Samuel. Adopted sons Harry (Gina) and Reginald, daughter Jezebel, adopted daughter Ganita. Grandchildren: T.J., Venaya, Jerome, Savannah, Winter, Lakota, Dakota, Nick, Lolie, Morpheus, Mariah, Canaida. Sister: Rhonda, brother Jerry , uncle Lawrence (Lori-Ann), aunt Ella, nieces: Glennis (Andy), Megan (Steven), Roxanne (Allie), Rochelle, Lindsey, Collette, Pam, Mellissa and Karen. Nephews: Manny, Zack, Louis, Elvis, Eric, and Robbie. Special Friends Rex (Janice) Daniels and special cousins, Brenda, Yogi and Winston. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws from Morley and Eden Valley: the Stevens, Ears, Smalleyes, Bearspaws, Bighorns, Powderfaces, Dixons, Lefthands, Daniels, Baptistes, Poucettes and Amos families. We apologize if we have missed anyone. He was predeceased by his parents George Smalleyes and Maize Bearspaw, son Samson “Bolo”, brothers: Floyd, Taylor and Gerald. Nephews: Dean and Colin. Niece Tracey, maternal aunts Dorothy and Edna. Paternal aunt: Susan, and paternal uncles Wally, Ross and Cecil. Prayer Services were held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High River, on Tuesday, October, 11 at 2:00 p.m. Wake services were held at Cindy Ear’s residence on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12. Funeral Services will be held at Chief Jacob Bearspaw Memorial School, Eden Valley, on Thursday. October 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Interment followed Eden Valley Cemetery. Briggs, Colton James
It is in great sadness that we announce the passing of our son Colton James Briggs at the age of 17 years. He will be forever missed by his parents Steven and Jennifer and beloved brothers Zane and Kody. Cherished grandson to Alan and Gail Briggs. Treasured nephew to aunts and uncles Kim and Sean Harris and their children Jordon and Jamie. Marci Briggs and her daughters Dilana and Destiny. Sadly missed by auntie Dianne Kaschl, grandparents; Ron Bates, and Wayne and Karen Scott .Aunts and uncles, Natasha Scott and her son Austin. Jeff and Michelle Bates and their daughters Emily and Alissa. Jennette and Scott Dyck and their children Keygan and Keyanna, Jerritt and Stacey Bates and their daughter Brooke. And all our extended family and friends. Colton had a passion for hockey, music, fishing, volleyball and an extreme interest in bugs. He played high country minor hockey his whole life until becoming one of the goalies for Okotoks Oilers Midget AA this year. Colton will always be remembered for his caring and loving demeanor and infectious smile. He was the perfect gentleman and he will be deeply missed. A funeral service will be held at the Foothills Centennial Centre (4 – 204 Community Way, Okotoks, AB T1S 2N3) on Friday November 4, 2011 at 2pm. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to The Alberta Treasury Branch(122 Centre Ave, Black Diamond, Alberta, T0L 0H0) for a scholarship fund in Colton's Memory Arrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Homes High River (403-652-2222).

Briggs, Margaret
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Meg (Nanny) was born in Calgary and attended teacher’s college in 1931.
After working in Alberta rural schools, she helped with the running of Briggs Furriers and Tannery for many years.
She also taught up North and loved times spent fishing and traveling to Hawaii with family. She lived in Black Diamond upon retiring, and enjoyed many artistic endeavors into her 90s. Meg grew breathtaking flower and vegetable gardens and passed onto the family her love for the land.
The most wonderful advice was only ever a phone call away, and we will miss her intelligence, humor, strength and courage every day.
Margaret is pre-deceased by her husband Roy Briggs, brothers Ferd and Henry Dams.
She is survived by her brother Vic, son Ed (Maija), daughter Rona (Brian), grandchildren Lisa (Andre), Lonni (Darryl), Lana (Shawn), Aaron, Laura, Shannon (Frank), Derek (Tutti), Janice, and great-grandchildren Michael, Alishia, Lacey, LaRae, Cody, Denver, Chelsey and Savanah. A Celebration of Margaret’s life was held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel 200 Woodgate Road Okotoks at 3:30 p.m.

Casselman, Dwayne
Casselman, Dwayne, of R.R. 1, Blackie, beloved husband of Myrna Casselman, passed away suddenly at his home near Blackie, Alberta on October 27, 2011 at the age of 70 years. Besides his loving wife Dwayne is survived by his daughters Shawn, Kelly, Linda and Laura, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He retired from employment with the City of Calgary and was a member of the Sam Steele Scouts.
A Celebration of Life was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, 301 Macleod Trail, High River on Wednesday, November 2 at 2:00 P.M. George Clarke, chaplain of Oilfields Hospital officiated.
Many thanks are extended to the High River E.M.S., Arrowwood Fire Department, Gleichen R.C.M.P. and High River Victims Services.

Hart, Sylvia
Sylvia Irene Hart of Black Diamond passed away on Oct 19, 2011 at the Foothills Country Hospice after a short battle with lung cancer.
She is survived by her two sons Edward and Brenda Hart of Kentucky and Gary and Sharon Hart of Black Diamond; and by five grandchildren, Shannon Copithorne and April McLeod from Cochrane, Shary Hart and Kevin Hart from Turner Valley and Deanna Hart from Black Diamond.
She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Ty and Shae Copithorne, Colby and Meagan McLeod of Cochrane, Mykayla and Brooklyn Hart of Turner Valley, Kyra, Cassidy and Tyrell Lawrence of Black Diamond along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Sylvia’s life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Turner Valley on Oct. 25, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
If desired, make donations to the Foothills Country Hospice or the Tom Baker Cancer Society.
