Morris “Moe” Cartman

Peacefully, on March 13, 2005 Morris “Moe” Cartman passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 74 years. After a number of years he was offered head of production. Then came the opportunity of being a Sports Editor after complaining he could do a better job. He showed Portage the importance of sports right up till the year his wife Lorraine passed away in 1992. He did continue to keep Portage informed though through his “Moe’s Mumblings in the Shopper paper. On October 13, 1956 Moe married icon the love of his life Lorraine Johnson. They lived in Portage all through their marriage which produced three children - his “favorite” daughter Karen, John and Brad. Moe was very proud of John’s golf abilities and Brad for his writing. Moe came across as grumpy but had a heart of gold. He was not the most patient man, if he was scheduled to take a picture at 7:00 and the team wasn’t ready, he left and the picture would not be taken. He participated in curling, baseball in his younger years and enjoyed golf and fishing later in life. Many times a dollar was passed among family members through the cribbage games that went on. You weren’t even in the door and he was shuffling the cards. One of Moe’s favorite times was going to the Terriers games. He had a great love for them. He would be offered tickets to the Winnipeg Jets games and would always say “why when I can get better hockey here at home.” Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 1:00 pm. at the Portage Centennial Arena, 390 1st Street NW, in Portage la Prairie. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Moe ’s memory to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N OK8 or to Portage Terriers, P.O.
