DEINES - We, the children of Flora Deines (nee MacCalder), wish to announce the passing of our mother. Mom had a heroic battle with breast cancer, which ended peacefully at home with family on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001. Daughter of Neil and Sarah MacCalder, Flora was born icon May 7, 1919 in Collingwood, Ontario. The family arrived in Alberta in 1930. Calgary was home to Flora, her husband and children, Murray (Lesley), Mel (Mary Anne), Wayne (Phyllis), Allan (Joelle) and Joy Seip (Robert). Flora will be missed by her grandchildren, Kerrie Reay (Robert), Keith (Tracy), Kelly (Claire), Steven, Ian (Patti), Kevin, Curtis (Shari), Todd, Justin Seip; and great-granddaughters, Pamela, Ashley and Kara Deines. Flora's siblings left to grieve are Donald (Myrtle), Doug, Mary Uttley (Jack), Morley (Marge); sisters-in-law, Helene and Margaret MacCalder. Flora was predeceased by her parents, siblings, beloved Fernie, Allan and Jack, sisters-in-law, Ester and Lois, daughter-in-law Eileen, grandson Kurt. A Celebration of Flora's life will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Flora's name can be made directly to Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2). DEVITT - John Willis "Jack". Peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2001, surrounded by members of his family, at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home, Kitchener, in his 90th year. Husband of the late Susanna Devitt (de Neef) (1991); dear father of Stan Devitt and his wife Diane of Waterloo, and Clyde Devitt of Calgary, Alberta. Cherished grandfather of Deanna and Craig Devitt. Survived by his brother Don Devitt of Black Diamond, Alberta; and by his sisters-in-law, Isabel Devitt and Anneke Bliek, both of Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by his parents, John Samuel Devitt and Effie Devitt (Youngs); his brother Howard Devitt and his sister Nellie Gillis. Special thanks to Diane Devitt for all her care and attention over the years, and to all the staff of the A.R. Goudie Eventide Home for their love and kindness during Jack's last few months. Jack was born icon on April 14, 1911 at Strongfield, Saskatchewan. He was a veteran of World War II, during which he met his wife Suus in The Netherlands. She joined him in Turner Valley, Alberta, in 1948 after the war, where he began trucking. He founded Devitt Transport Ltd. in 1957 and was active in oil field hauling and a respected member of the Trucking Association through to his retirement to High River, Alberta in 1976. In 1998 he moved to Waterloo to be with family. A celebration of Jack's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 29 Westmount Road, Waterloo, the Rev. Mark Harris officiating. This will be followed, at a date yet to be determined, by a Memorial Service in Alberta. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions to A.R. DOXEY - Ruth Merrill Tanner Walker Doxey, passed away surrounded by her family, in Lethbridge on Sunday, April 15, 2001 at the age of 80 years. She was born icon in Cardston on October 7, 1920 and was raised in the Hill Spring and Cardston area. She attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton where she received a BSc and then went to Washington State University in Pullman, Washington where she received a Masters degree. She married icon Clifford Ross Walker in 1946 in Oakland, California and raised a family of four boys and one girl in Calgary. In 1972 she received a PhD in nutritional science from the University of Wisconsin and then taught at BYU in Provo, Utah until 1981. She served as a member of the Relief Society General Board of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1972 to 1984. Following the death of Clifford Ross Walker in 1975, she married icon Roy Watkins Doxey in 1986 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1987 she and her husband served a mission in London, England and following his death in 1992 she served two more missions, one in New Zealand and another in Winnipeg. She moved to Cardston in 1995 where she lived until her death. She was predeceased by her husbands, Clifford Ross Walker and Roy Watkins Doxey, a son Merrill Peter Walker, and a granddaughter Sarah Brown Olson. She is survived by four of her children, Thomas (Linda) of Vancouver, Wayne (Laura) of Calgary, John (Jeanette) of Tucson, Arizona and Carolyn (Tom Olson) of Bragg Creek, Alberta; twenty-nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four sisters. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, Cardston, Alberta on Wednesday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Ralph W. Salmon officiating. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. prior to the Service. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Provo, Utah. FISHER - Mary. It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Fisher announces her passing on Friday, April 13, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Mary was born icon on October 12, 1913 near Dundurn, Saskatchewan and came from a family of six brothers and two sisters, of which she was the only surviving member. Mary was dedicated to her family all of her life and will be deeply missed by her children, Ivan, Morris (Georgette), Jessie (Duane) Carrol, Buddie, Gloria (Neil) Steiger, Gary (Joyce); as well as eighteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by many other family members and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Pat in 1982, two sons, James and Amie and grandsons John and Vince. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at PIERSON'S FUNERAL HOME, 4121 - 17 Avenue S.E. FITZMARTYN - (Melina) June Fitzmartyn passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on Friday, April 13, 2001 at the age of 73 years. Born on June 17, 1927 in Cheshire, England, she moved to Calgary in February 1949 to marry. Her husband Harold predeceased her. She is survived by her three children, her son Peter Fitzmartyn (Susan); daughters, Gail (Tim) Harrison and Carol Wasut; grandchildren, Carrie (Mark) Mallett, Karie Wasut, June-Marie Innes-Fitzmartyn, Todd and Ryan Harrison, Kellan Fitzmartyn and Don and Stephanie Dennis; one sister-in-law Mary Lane of Victoria; and one nephew Dennis Fitzmartyn. Throughout her life, she was an active and enthusiastic gardener, accompanied by a menagerie of animals. Her love of life and the outdoors was passed to those around her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. GOULD - Ed (Edwin Orrin) died April 13, 2001. Author of fourteen books in his own name and eight in others, Ed was a veteran journalist and teacher, born icon February 26, 1932 in Turner Valley, Alberta. He is survived by son Jay (Brenda), Calgary; sisters, Norma (Peter) Smith, Richmond, B.C., Sandra (Ken) Pruden, Aldergrove, B.C., Eleanor (Urquart) MacLellan, Cultus Lake, B.C.; brothers, Marvin (Sandy), Green Lake, B.C., Larry (Mona), Fort St. John, B.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Ed wrote thousands of articles for magazines and newspapers, and for films and television in Canada, the U.S. and U.K. He worked for Canadian Press and Broadcast News, The Victoria Times, the Weekly Victorian, and contributed for many years to the Vancouver Sun. Ed loved to travel and came home with ideas for books and articles. He taught journalism and fiction at Camosun College in Victoria and at various schools in Coquitlam, Vancouver and West Vancouver. He was a founding member of Vancouver and District New Jazz Society, The Writers Union of Canada, and a founder of AIRSPACE (the society for protecting the rights of non-smokers). He was president of the Canadian Authors' Association, Victoria and Island Branch, and numerous boards and societies. He was a tireless volunteer at Riley Park Community Complex, working with the disabled. Ed received several awards for writing and reporting. His archive was purchased by the University of Regina in 1989. Memorial Service at Sunshine Hills Foursquare Church, 6749 - 120 Street, Delta, B.C., Pastor Sonny Vitaliz presiding, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 18. HAMILTON - Giles Holden Hamilton of Calgary, passed away at the Canmore General Hospital on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at the age of 70 years. Giles lived and worked until mid-life in Capreol, ON. Giles and his wife Maureen moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1980 and resided there until 2000, most recently residing in Calgary. Giles is survived by his wife Maureen; four sons, Bradley of Ottawa, Rev. Bruce-John of Powell River, Dr. Mark (Heather) of Calgary and Wayne (Mary-Lou) of Canmore; a daughter Penelope (Larry) of Calgary; and five grandchildren, Patrick, Max, Luke, Alex and Sarah. JOHNSON - Hans Alvin passed away at the Bethany Care Center on Thursday, April 12, 2001 at the age of 79 years. Alvin is survived by his loving sister Margaret Garbe; niece Rose (Kenneth) Hamilton; nephew Antonio Francovich; great-nieces, Liana (Joseph) Sobochan, Suzanne Knudsen and Patricia (Jay) Jones. Predeceased by his wife Rose, 1993, parents, Hans Peter Johnson, 1976, and Asta Johnson, 1951, a brother Carl Johnson, 1945, and a niece Dixie Francovich, 1999. Alvin was born icon and raised in Claresholm, AB, where he worked in the agricultural and construction industries. He later relocated to Stettler, AB, where he met and married icon his devoted wife Rose Kerbs in 1969, and served faithfully in the service of the Lord. His failing health brought him to Calgary where Margaret cared for Alvin at her home and later at Bethany. Many thanks to the staff of Bethany Care Centre, Level 6, and Muriel Davies for the care and support they provided to Alvin and Margaret. KRAHULIC - Agnes Beatrice Krahulic of Calgary, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Peter Lougheed Centre (Calgary), after a short but courageous battle with cancer at 68 years of age. Agnes devoted her life to being a loving wife, caring mother and good friend. Although struggling with Alzheimer's disease for many years, Agnes always maintained her social and cheerful nature. Agnes was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate, William Henry Krahulic in September of 1992 (may their love continue to grow forever). Agnes will be sadly missed by her children, Henry "Hank" Krahulic, Mary Ann Greco and Charlene Pellerin; along with her sons-in-law, Frank Greco and Clint Pellerin, all of Calgary. She will also be lovingly remembered by her older brother Ralph Henry Dahlbak of Edmonton; brother-in-law Robert "Bob" (Elaine) Krahulic of Priddis; sister-in-law Verna (Clarence) Fisher of Regina; and many nieces and nephews.
