FERNUIK - Heather Anne passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at the age of 45 years, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Heather's life was centered around her family and her love for golf, travelling, gardening, crafts and her job. She cherished many moments with her best friends, Ken and Riley. Heather will always be remembered by anyone who knew her for her passion for life and the energy she put into anything she did. Besides her life-long friend and partner Ken Berger, Heather is survived by her family, Jean and Victor Janseen of Edmonton, AB; Mike, Irma, Mathew and Gage Fernuik of Mission, Texas; Cheryl, Jerry and Michelle Beauregard of Vernon, BC; Evelyn, Amanda and Adrian Smith of Saskatoon, SK; family-in-law, Joyce Berger; Don, Barb, Michael and Craig Berger of Gwynne, AB; Shirley and Michael McPhee of Guelph, ON; as well as numerous relatives, many cherished friends and her favorite cat Riley. She was predeceased by her father Walter Fernuik, her brother Robin Smith, and her father-in-law Gordon Berger. FLEMING - Iris Fleming died peacefully on June 6, 2001, at the age of 89 years, just three days after the death of her beloved husband of almost sixty-four years, Jack Fleming, and ten minutes after her son arrived from Ottawa. Her Jack was everything to her, and now they are together again. She is survived by her children, Peter (Michele) and Jill (Dennis) Burns; grandchildren, Catherine Fleming, Timothy and Anna Burns; and two sisters, Doris Roderick of Toronto, and Joan McInnis of Aurora, Ontario. Iris was born icon on May 4, 1912 in Wales. She was one of the first full-time female newspaper reporters in Canada. She began her career with the Mail and Empire, and then moved to the Globe and Mail when it was first established. She married icon her boss, Jack Fleming, but kept the marriage secret for several years in order to keep her job. After leaving the Globe, she continued to write for it for many years, travelling the West to write a regular column on well-known personalities. Iris was happiest when she had her family together, and her special delight was her grandchildren. She loved golf, and her passion was the English language. A dictionary was always close at hand. FLEMING - John Allan (Jack) Fleming died peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2001, ten days short of his 92nd birthday. Jack was born icon June 13, 1909 in Calgary. He was survived by his beloved wife of almost sixty-four years Iris. He is survived by his children, Peter (Michele) and Jill (Dennis Burns); hisgrandchildren, Catherine Fleming, Timothy and Anna Burns. Jack began his newspaper career with the Albertan before moving east to join Canadian Press and the Globe and Mail, where he became the news editor. In 1948 he moved in to Public Relations, first in Chatham, Ontario and then returning west, in Calgary with Canadian Utilities. His great love in life was his family and he was always present at every ceremony, party and game. He was devoted to Iris and pushed her everywhere in her wheelchair. He loved golf and hiking and his hearty laugh was heard at many social occasions. GOODMAN - Vernon James, born icon in Edmonton April 5, 1923 passed away May 27, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
After public school in Edmonton, he moved to Montreal where he earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree at McGill University.
He worked for many years at Dominion Bridge Company offices before retiring in Calgary.
He leaves to mourn his loss a sister Yvonne and her husband Herb Blades of Hockessin, DE, USA; and in Calgary, a brother Keith and his wife Jane; an uncle Doug Goodman and his wife Jo-Anne; and a kind and caring neighbor Norma Rodtka.

GRAVILLE - Dale Raymond Graville passed away at International Falls, MN on May 11, 2001 at the age of 52 years. Dale is survived by his daughter Shannon (Robert) Cook; son Kenneth (Tina) Graville; as well as by his grandchildren, Lukas, Katelynn, Christina and Jordan. Dale is also survived by his brother Cliff (Lynn) Graville; his nephews, Clinton (Amanda), Cade, Chad; his niece Alecia; and by his sister-in-law Susan and her daughter Kim (Keith). He is predeceased by his parents, Laurier and Ann Graville as well as by his brother Laurie. GREENAWAY - Dorothy Ellen died peacefully, age 98, at Bow Crest Nursing Home on June 6, 2001. The eldest of seven children born icon to May Emma and John Tod of Verdun, Manitoba. She taught school before marrying Melvin Greenaway. They moved several times, accumulating many friends as they went. Mel died while they lived in Summerland, B.C. in their retirement years. Dorothy loved visits with friends and relatives and had a passion for gardening, as evidenced by her inviting yard. Dorothy moved to Calgary in 1985. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Bob, sisters, Phyllis, Helen and Winnifred, as well as a grandson Chris. She is survived by her sister Ann and brother Douglas; four sons, Tod (Fumiko) of Vancouver, Bob (Ruth) of Nanoose Bay, B.C., Phil (Pat) of Calgary, and Howard (Vicki) of Inisfil, Ontario. She was an inspiring and loving grandmother of twelve, and great-grandmother of eleven. The family wishes to express their thanks to the caring Second Floor staff at Bow Crest Nursing Home. GUENARD - Mrs. Anna Guenard (nee Patera), beloved wife of Mr. Maurice Guenard of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Cedars Villa Nursing Home on June 6, 2001 at the age of 88 years. Anna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-six years Maurice; sons, James (Lorraine) and Robert (Angelika); three grandsons, eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Campbell, Annette MacDonald, Julie (Dave) Halliday; and numerous nieces and nephews. HILBORN - Ruth Mina Hilborn of Calgary, formerly of Drumheller, passed away at the Brentwood Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 after a lengthy illness, at the age of 89 years. Ruth was born icon on September 9, 1911 in Doddington, Kent, England. The family moved to Canada in 1913 to Cabri, Sask. Ruth grew up there, later moving to Calgary in the 1930's and subsequently to Drumheller in 1940. She loved music, taught piano and music theory in the Drumheller area for forty years. In 1964 she completed her R.C.M.T. diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and acted as coordinator for the R.C.M.T. in Drumheller. She was one of the organizers of the Drumheller Music Festival for many years. Ruth was very politically involved with the Social Credit Party and had been their president of the Women's league. She was a delegate to the founding convention of the Reform Party in 1987. Ruth was an inveterate traveler, enjoying many trips. She will be lovingly remembered by all her family, Bob and Kay Hilborn of Courtenay, B.C., Carol Ann Green of Calgary, Rick and Kathy Hilborn of St. Albert; and her niece Margaret (Dolly) Yavis of White Rock, BC and her family. Ruth is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, David, Michael, Bruce (Gail), Catherine, Deborah, Danita, Dan, Rob, Rod, Carol, Carrie (Richard), Jason and Jim; ten great-grandchildren, Jessie, Krystal, Dillon, Jenna, Jacob, Christine, Cassie, Halen, Tara and Christian; as well as a sister Queenie (Kay) Fell of Calgary. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1967, an infant son Joseph Edward in 1932, a daughter Geraldine Ruth Hawkins in 1985, son-in-law Bob Hawkins in 1991 and her brother Fred Cheesman in 1961.
