(long time member of Newcastle United Church) Peacefully at Compassion House, Newcastle, on Friday, November 19, 2004, in her 91st year. Loving wife of the late Ken Dean. Dear mother of Ross and his wife Lorraine of Oshawa, Jim and his wife Ellen of Gloucester, and Mary and her husband Gamey Lycett of Port Hope. Sadly missed by grandchildren Ben, Jamie, Wayne, Karen, Kenneth, Rosalind, Junior, Glenn, Andrea, Dean, and their families. Sister of the late Maude, Mae, Florence, and Ben, and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of the 401 at the lights) on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 22, at 11:00 a.m. Interment Orono Cemetery. Donations in Bessie’s memory to the Bowmanville Memorial Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by her family.

DEAN, Cecil Roy "Cy" -
Peacefully on Friday November 19, 2004 at his home in Oshawa at the age of 78. Cy, beloved husband for 53 years of Mary Dean (nee Dugan). Loving father of Karen and her husband Dion Jacobsen. Dear brother in law of Helen Charbanick. Loving uncle of Lisa and her husband Doug Head, Christine O'Brien, Wendy and her husband Jerry Kennedy, and Cathy and her husband Wayne Madill. Cy will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his loving family and many dear friends. A special thank you to Cy's doctor, Dr. Richard Swain for his compassionate care. A private family funeral service was held. Cremation. Memorial donations to the Oshawa Humane Society, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, (905-433-4711).

HAYES, Daphne Yvonne -
Wife of the late Rothwell 'Ron' Hayes, released from pain and discomfort, passing peacefully away on Friday, November 19th, 2004 with daughter Susan (Peter), sons Peter (Sharon) and Paul (Ellen) at her side. She was born in Rangoon, Burma, to Noreen Shelagh Sullivan and James Milton Daly, and is survived by her brother Denis (Trudie), brother-in-law Roy (Chris), and sisters-in-law Betty (Bill) and Peggy, all of the UK. Daphne's loving warmth, compassion and humour will be missed by those she touched especially grandchildren Carole, Stephen, Claire, Alison, Karen, Justin (Holly), Ryan (Robin), Rhonda (Dave), and Mark. The family extends gratitude to Dr. Stas, doctors and nursing staff of the Rouge Valley Health Centre, Ajax, for their professionalism, compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Society, or to Daphne's favourite charitable organizations, The Leprosy Mission, The Salvation Army, or World Vision, would be greatly appreciated.

MUNRO, Richard William 'Rick' -
After a short battle with cancer on Friday, November 19th, 2004 at Rouge Valley Health Centre, Ajax Site. Rick, beloved husband of Carolyn. Cherished Dad of Cathy (Dwight), Steven (Tammy), Gregory (Lisa), Teresa (Jack) and Gordon. Devoted Grandpa to Taylor, Justin, Ryan, Jacob, Amanda, Antonio, Nathan and Maria. Lovingly remembered by his brothers Bill, Gord, Paul, and their families. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, 21 Bayly Street East (Bayly and Harwood) at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Rick's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.

(Aged 73 years) Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Friday November 19th, 2004. Beloved wife of the late Bert Payne. Dear mother of Teresa & Rick Langford, David, Jeffery, Annette & Jeff Bate. Loving Nana of Joe, Melanie, Daniel, Erin, Brianna & Jenna. Dear sister to Bernadette Currie & Bertha McNab & Rael Gosselin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, Bowmanville, 11 am Monday Nov. 22nd. Memorial donations in Irene s memory may be made to The Bowmanville Hospital or The Heart & Stroke Foundation. Irene spent her life giving to others. First, as a registered nurse at Bowmanville Hospital for numerous years before & after raising her family. Secondly, in 1981, she moved on to a career as a French Immersion Teacher s Aid in 3 schools in Bowmanville. Also through out her life she gave many hours as a volunteer. A special thanks to Bowmanville Hospital Doctors & staff for their excellent care.

On Friday November 19, 2004 at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Loving mother of Dale McLeod of Whitby, Susan Solomon of Castleton, and mother in law to James Heard of Whitby. Stepmother of Barbara Piatti of Oshawa, and Marion Smith (Ronald) of Kincardine. Predeceased by husbands Earl Jacob Bryant, and Frank Sugden, daughter Jane Heard, and son-in-law Bruce McLeod. Loved by grandchildren John (Laura) and Andrew (Rachel) McLeod, Emily (Jose’) and Jillian Heard, Thomas Solomon, Venetta (Don) Hills, Laurel Smith, Christopher, Mark (Lisa) and Victoria (Steve) Piatti. Cherished by great grandchildren Megan and Gavin McLeod, Jacob, Julianne and Madison McLeod, and Jenna and Blake Hills. A memorial service will be held at WHITBY BAPTIST CHURCH, 411 Gilbert Street East, Whitby, on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 23, 2004 at 2 PM. THOMAS, Douglas -
Peacefully, on Friday, November 19, 2004 at Markham-Stouffville Hospital, at age 70. Doug, dearest husband of Marilyn and proud father of Susan (Jamie) Rose, Rod (Roberta) Thomas, Janet (Jennifer) Thomas and Brad (Keri) Thomas. Loving grandfather of Alexandra, Lauren, Whitney and Taylor Rose, Krystyna, Aissa and Alec Thomas, Eden and William Thomas and grandpa's best buddies Bismark and Eugen. Survived by his sister Helen (Peter) Fenske and predeceased by sister Doreen Yurkewich. In Doug's memory, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the S.P.C.A.

COLE, Eileen Ethel (nee Ashcroft) -
Suddenly on Thursday, November 18th, 2004 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, at age 81. Eileen, wife of the late Dennis Cole and beloved mother of Grant. Will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In Eileen's memory, donations may be made to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital.

GRANGER, Isabel –
Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Whitby on Thursday November 18th, 2004. Isabel Granger in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Granger. Loving mother of Gary and his wife Heather. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Tara and her husband Marttin, John and his wife Sherri and great-grandchildren Brandon, Skyler, Alexis and Brooke. Isabel will be sadly missed by her extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rested at the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway # 2, Courtice, (4th set of traffic lights east of Townline Road) 905-432-8484. Funeral Service was held in our chapel on Saturday November 20th at 3 P.M. The family of Isabel received friends on Saturday November 20th, from 1 – 3 P.M. Interment at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens. SCHMIDT, Guenter Paul -
Peacefully, on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at his home in Caesarea, at age 83. Guenter, loved son of the late Paul and Maria Schmidt. Dear brother of Ruth Borgers in Germany and Eva Pratt in California. Rested at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905 985-2171). A Service to celebrate the life of Guenter Schmidt was held on Monday, November 22nd at 3 p.m. with Reverend Dr. John Sullivan officiating. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Anna passed away peacefully at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital on Thursday, November 18th, 2004. Beloved wife of the late Daniel Shuplak, dearly beloved mother of Alfie. private funeral was held on Saturday, November 20th, 2004.

BYERS, Mary Martha (nee Barnett) -
Passed away peacefully on the 17th of November, 2004 at Fairview Lodge in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late James Byers. Much loved by her sisters Eileen Mitchell, Hilda Gierman, Doris Stephenson, and Rose Sorensen, and brother Archie Barnett. Aunt Mary will be missed by her many nephews and nieces, a large extended family and too many special friends to count. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Fairview Lodge. If we missed anybody you are in our thoughts. A reception will follow the funeral at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 209 Cochrane St., Whitby.

PIGOTT, Hazel Irene (nee: Burley) -
At Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in her 90th year. Hazel, beloved wife of the late William Robinson, Everett Stapleton and Alfred Pigott. Loving mother of John Robinson, Howard Stapleton (Marion) and Glory Adams (Fay). Dear grandmother of Lee Stapleton (Anastasia), Laura Iantomasi (Frank), Don Adams (Ann) and great-grandmother of Leah Stapleton, Andrew Adams and Katie Adams. Loved sister of the late Pearl Farrow, Ruby Brown, Roy Burley and Clarence Burley. Donations to Orono United Church in Hazel s memory would be gratefully appreciated.

Passed away suddenly at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday November 17, 2004 at the age of 69. Beloved wife of the late Norman Ranger. Dear daughter of Marjorie Macklem. Loved mother of William (Debbie) Ranger, Carrol Ann (Neil) Sellers, Julie (Michael) Merrick, Steven (Linda) Ranger, and Elaine (Craig) Dempster. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Jeffery, Laura, Casey, Susan, Lisa, Steven, Jennifer, Amber, Kelly and Bryan. Truly missed by her brother Gordon (Teresa) Macklem and her nephew Will. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with funeral service in the Chapel on Saturday November 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. Cremation. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carmen Cassar in her 77th year, on November 16th, 2004. Loving wife for 55 years to Charles Cassar. Beloved mother of Theresa Donnelly, Grace Taylor (Tom), Barb Kilpatrick (Bill), Susan Grant (Dave). Predeceased by her only son Larry who will greet her with loving arms in heaven. Cherished Nanna of Chuckie Cassar (Julie), Scott Donnelly, Matthew Taylor, Carrie Kilpatrick, Michael Taylor, Ashley Kilpatrick & Alyssa Grant. She also leaves behind brothers and sisters Rita Attard (Joe) & Tony Caruana (Sherry) of Canada and Frank Caruana (Maria), Freddy Caruana (Mary) & Josephine Grima (Tony) all of Malta. Sister-in-law of Sphera Schembri of California, Tonina Caruana and Paola Cassar both of Malta. Carmen will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews & friends both in Canada & Malta. Passed away suddenly at the Lakeridge Health, Port Perry on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, in her 75th year. Predeceased by her loving husband Louis. Will be sadly missed by her son Jim and his wife Wendy and her two grandchildren Lesley and Darrell. She will also be missed by her sister Dorothy (Jack) Allan, sister-in-law Eleanor Foltas, brother-in-law Ron Donovan, sister-in-law Shirley Robillard and predeceased by her brother Bill Foltas and sister-in-law Connie Kemp.
