LINES, KEITH GORDON
LINES, KEITH GORDON - On June 14, 1937 God gave our family Keith, and on September 14, 2004 He wrapped His arms around him and called him home. Keith was the youngest of ten children born to Erbrook and Katy Lines, and was born with Down’s syndrome. Despite this disability, he enjoyed a fulfilling life and enriched the lives of those around him.
Keith was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Isobel and Marguerite Lines, Evelyn McClarty, Patricia McLeod, his brothers Kenny, Milton and Albert Lines, his brothers in law, Albert McClarty, Jim Leslie and Dick Hopley and by his sister in law Violet Holland. His gentle spirit will be missed by his sisters Laura Hopley and Vera Leslie, sisters in law Jean Lines and Audrey Lines, brother in law Ross McLeod and his many nieces and nephews.
Keith was raised on the family farm in the Cantuar area and moved to Swift Current with his mother in 1954. In 1968, when Katy was aging, Keith moved in with his sister Laura and her family. When Dick and Laura were aging, Keith moved to the Swift Current Care Home where he happily spent his last years under the loving care of the wonderful staff.
When Katy and Keith moved to Swift Current, Keith had the regular role of babysitting and keeping company with the first wave of nieces and nephews. He was rarely without the company of one or more and in particular he saw his nephews Carson, Jimmy and Garry grow from caring for them in infancy to being great pals with them in adulthood.
He was always interested in the farm and had a close relationship with his brother Albert with whom he spent countless hours riding in the grain truck. Albert loved to ask Keith to come out to the farm to pick rocks, which generally gave rise to a somewhat profane retort that Albert could go pick his own rocks. For many years Keith was happily employed at the Swift Current Sheltered Workshop, making confetti with a two hole punch. He enjoyed his work and the fellowship of his coworkers.
Keith was a loving person with a lively sense of humor. He took great joy in a good meal, pictures of family and rocking the newest baby. His whole face would light up when he saw you walk into the room. He loved to talk, but perhaps most of all Laura will miss sharing a quiet cup of tea with Keith.
Keith was interested in everyone who crossed his path and was rewarded with many friends throughout his life. He had his favorites and to them he was relentlessly loyal. The recriminations would last for weeks if he overheard anyone criticize his boy Scott. So too was it for other favorites like Jack Estabrooks, Jimmy Lines, Dave Adolph and Ross Macnab.
Keith’s family is proud of him for a life well lived and grateful for the legacy of love and acceptance that he leaves with those of us lucky enough to have known him. He taught us much about happiness. We’ll keep your memory always near. A memorial service to celebrate Keith’s life will be held on October 16th, 2004. Please contact Parkside Memorial Funeral Home in Swift Current for further information.
