Ferguson, Miss Georgina (Jean)
Ferguson, Miss Georgina (Jean), peacefully passed away on March 10, 2005 at Herbert Nursing Home at the age of 87 years. Jean was predeceased by her parents Georgina and William Ferguson, and her sisters Florence Ferguson (at an early age), Ada McGhie, Ethel Saigeon and Peggy Willy. Jean is survived by her nephews Allan Willy of Toronto, Ontario, Gordon and Gerald McGhie of British Columbia and niece Dorothy Ferguson (Saigeon) of Morse, Saskatchewan, and friend Rae Busse of Swift Current. Jean, the youngest, was born on March 5, 1918 in the Morse, Saskatchewan area and resided with her family on a farm a few miles south of this community. Jean’s father died when she was a child, and Jean, with her mother and sisters, survived the depression era without losing their family farm. Jean eventually moved to Swift Current in the 1940’s where she began her lifetime career as a retail clerk. She remained there, resident at Prairie View Lodge in her retirement until September 2004 when she entered the Herbert Nursing Home. Jean Ferguson was interred in the family plot at Morse, Saskatchewan on March 17, 2005. A grave side service was held on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morse Cemetery officiated by Pastor Bob Cappelle. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The family would like to thank Lynn Meyers, Sandra Fortman and other staff of Swift Current Home Health Care and staff at the Herbert Nursing Home for care provided to our Aunt Jean.

Anna Sherman
Passed Away: September 18, 2005
SHERMAN Mrs. Anna Mary, (June 11, 1923 – September 18, 2005) Anna was born and raised in the Neville District. She joined the Air Force in WWII and returned to Neville thereafter. She was married to Alvin Carleton and was divorced in 1951. In March, 1953, she and Fred Sherman were married in Calgary. They moved to Success in 1967. Anna enjoyed curling, quilting, sewing and knitting. She worked at Captain Scott’s Fish & Chips and Allied Hardware in Swift Current. She enjoyed going for coffee and visiting. Anna had just moved to the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current from the Kiaskus Villa in Gull Lake, where she has resided for the last 5 ½ years. She is survived by her one sister, Yula Cobler, of Peachland, B.C.; her husband of 52 years, Fred; three sons: Doug (Penny Lee), their children, Shannon (Chris), great-granddaughter, Emilie, Curtis and Christopher, of Calgary; son, Bev (Shirley), their two boys, Mike of Swift Current, and Kelly (Marlene) of Edmonton, great-granddaughter, Jordan, of Swift Current; and son, Evan. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Allan; her in-laws, Amos and Alice Sherman; and her brothers-in-law, Wayne Cobler and Charlie Sherman. The private family graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Neville Community Cemetery with Velma Wilson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Norma Williamson
Passed Away: October 19, 2005
WILLIAMSON Mrs. Norma Opal (Scottie). (March 11, 1924 – October 19, 2005) Scottie passed away October 19, 2005 while a resident of the Swift Current Prairie Pioneers Lodge. Scottie was predeceased by her husband, Arnold in 1990 and her son, Roger in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Dave (Sandy) and Mario (Sandy); six grandchildren: Charlene, Shaun, Lindsay, Carly, Matt and Ashley; and two great-grandchildren, La Toya and Aidan. Scottie is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Hank & Edith Williamson, Bill & Evelyn Williamson, Mary-Ann Howden, Rose Davey, and Verena Williamson; numerous nieces and nephews, and her special companion and care giver, Murray Tweedle. Scottie was raised in the Cabri area and lived her adult life in Swift Current working for Dr. Keene and later as business manager at the Carmel Clinic. Scottie married Arnold on June 18, 1945 and together they raised three sons, Roger, David and Mario. Scottie made many friends throughout her life and had a great impact on many! Scottie loved her many crafts and continued with her love of gardening until the end. Scottie spent the last year of her life at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge where she received the loving care that she was so in need of. Special thanks to all of the staff, we appreciate the love and care you showed Mom. Thank you to the team of Pastoral Volunteers led by Velma Wilson that Saturday and cared for Mom in her last days. The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Father Sathiadas Antony officiating. The pallbearers were her six grandchildren. The interment was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Saskatchewan.

Wilbert Orr
Passed Away: October 20, 2005
Wilbert Robinson Orr (1925 – 2005)
Bert passed away unexpectedly on Thursday October 20, 2005 at the Regina General Hospital from complications following surgery. Bert was predeceased by his parents Sam and Jean of Regina, and his brother Gordon of Vulcan, Alberta. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doreen, of Swift Current, his three children, Robert (Hoda) of Edmonton, Janet (Tim) Keene of Swift Current, and Gerry (Bev) of Calgary, seven grandchildren Erin (Steve) Robinson, James Orr, Andrew, Kacey, and Jeffrey Keene, Ryan and Christopher Orr, two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Rowan Robinson, and one brother, Ken Orr, of Regina. Bert attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a BACC in 1947 and a LLB in 1948. He practiced law for 56 years in Southwest Saskatchewan with offices in Swift Current and Maple Creek. In 1999, Bert was awarded an Honorary Life Membership from the Law Society of Saskatchewan commemorating 50 years of dedicated service to his profession. Bert's passions were his family and his law practice. He was a kind and generous man and will be well remembered by his many friends and clients and deeply missed by his family. Funeral services were held on Monday October 24, 2005 at 11:00am at First United Church in Swift Current with Rev. John Barker officiating. For those wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation or the First United Church Memorial Fund.

Caroline Helen Dougherty
Passed Away: October 20, 2005
DOUGHERTY Mrs. Caroline Helen (Nee Kruppke), was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on October 20, 2005. Mom was born at Herbert, Saskatchewan on August 11, 1912. She was predeceased by her husband, William; her parents, Peter and Marie Kruppke; sisters: Mary Funk, Elizabeth Steele, Elsie Simpson, and Annie Funk; her brother, John Kruppke; and her special friend, George Wall. Caroline will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jim (Faye) Dougherty, of Goderich, Marion (Chief) Moroz, of Edmonton, Donna (Ivan) Jeske, of Swift Current, and Robert (Janis) Dougherty, of Abernethy; grandchildren: Laurie (Steve) Darichuk, Susan (Steve) Kingston, Bill (Angie) Dougherty, Tammy Bagnato, Caroline Herrington, Robert (Cheryl) Moroz, Winona Jeske, Barry Jeske; eighteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Mom was a charter member of the Church Of The Open Bible – celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. During this time she was a faithful member, serving her Lord and Saviour in many capacities. Nursing and caring for others was a main focus of her life, working at the Swift Current Union Hospital for many years. Upon retirement she continued her interest in the health field by working as an ambulance attendant, doing homecare and meals on wheels. Up until the last few months Mom also served as a volunteer helping out at the Mennonite Central Committee Thrift Store. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ibrahim for his care and compassion over the years, to Marilyn Maudry-Lautsch for all her visits to Mom, to the 2nd West staff and Maternity staff of the Cypress Regional Hospital for their loving care during Mom’s stay. A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Burial Park. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of The Open Bible with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Pambrun College of The Bible, or Northern Canada Evangelical Mission.

Mr. Jacob Dueck
Passed Away: May 27, 2005.
DUECK Mr. Jacob, aged 99 years of Herbert, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2005 in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Jacob was born to Frank and Anna Dueck in the area of Main Centre on May 10, 1906. He was born and raised on a farm and helped out on the farm as well. He was educated in a school named Shoenaw, which was changed to the name Cruikshank in later years. He helped his parents on the farm until he was about 15 years old, at which point he started working for other farmers to earn money to help support the family. In the fall of 1922 the family, with a group of other farmers moved to Mexico, about 90 miles west of Chewawa City. In the spring of 1925 Jake borrowed money from a farmer in Herbert so that he could come back again to Saskatchewan. He then worked for other farmers, and in 1926 he bought 1.3 shares in a tractor and a threshing machine and he started farming in Lucky Lake. He farmed together with his brother, John, and his son, Fred. Jake got into Forge Blacksmithing and acety welding in Lucky Lake and sold it again in 1937 and then went back to farming again with quite a bit of success. Jake separated form John and Fred Dueck with farming and went on his own. He also did repair work and ark welding on the farm. He married Mary Driedger on June 21, 1929, and together they had two children. Pearl was born December 15, 1930 and Ernie was born December 24, 1934. Mary passed away to be with the Lord on June 11, 1967. Jake got married again to Helen Reimer form Swift Current on June 1, 1968. They farmed together at Lucky Lake until they retired from farming in 1983. They got a house built in Swift Current in 1985 and moved there. Jake came from a family of 12. They attended Bridgeway Community Church in Swift Current. They sold their house in Swift Current and bought a suite in a condo, but sold it and moved to Herbert into a Senior Home, The Herbert Heritage Manor, on May 11, 1998. Jacob is survived by his son, Ernie (Frieda); his daughter, Pearl (Wilbert); 16 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by, one grandson, Bruce, in 1961; his first wife, Mary, in 1967; and his second wife, Helen, in 2002. The funeral service was held on Monday, May 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Bridgeway Community Church with Pastor Cliff Janzen officiating. David Watt gave the eulogy, and Russell Funk gave a tribute. The Ladies Trio performed special Music and Jacob’s children, Ernie and Pearl, sang a duet. The ushers were, George Dyck, Benjamin Dueck, and Abe Funk. The pallbearers were: Kevin Dueck, Carey Dueck, Rod Gustafson, David Watt, Rick Bredy, and Russell Funk. The interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to Gideon’s International. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Mr. George Wall
Passed Away: May 18, 2005
WALL Mr. George. On May 18, 2005 at the age of 99 years and 138 days, George Wall entered into the presence of His Lord and also joined his wife and son who had gone on ahead. He was born December 5, 1905 at Wakeham, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his two sisters and eight brothers. He is survived by his children: Ken (Shirley) Wall, of Calgary, AB, Marie Nagel, of Wells, B.C., Betty (Paul) Swihart, of Consul, SK, George (Gloria) Wall, of Saskatoon, SK, and Priscilla (Charles) Redpath, of Medicine Hat, AB; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Dad was married to our mother, Elizabeth on May 19, 1932 and they celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in 1982. In 1935, Lloyd, their first child died. This life-changing event began a legacy of faith in God that he longed to pass on to every member of his family. George and Elizabeth operated Pfaff Sewing Centre in Swift Current for many years. His other interests included, camping, fishing and woodworking. He loved to play games (by his own rules) with family and friends. He will be missed by his family and his very special friend, Helen Dougherty, as well as many friends and relatives. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Alpine Church of God with Pastor Rory Grooters officiating. The interment was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK. The pianist for the service was, Marlee Rutkowski. Special Music was performed by, Shirley Wall & Shelley Stronach. Tributes were given by: Shelley Stronach, Jeff Nagel, Betty Swihart, and Brad Wall. The ushers were: Bruce Dyck, Doug Cleveland, Lee Eby, and George Friesen. The pallbearers were: Paula Bonk, Joanne Redpath, Kenton Wall, Cody Montagnon, Jeff Nagel, and Carla Knudsen. The Honorary Pallbearers were: Peter & Ann Hoofdakker, John & Betty Friesen, John & Sharon Penny, Jake & Marge Wall, and Robert & Janice Dougherty. Memorial donations may be made to the Diamond Willow Retreat, Box 193, Consul, SK, S0N 0P0, Gideon’s International, or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Saamis Funeral Chapel, Medicine Hat, AB and Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
