Minnie Williams
Passed Away: May 11, 2005
WILLIAMS (nee Koch) Minnie, of Swift Current, SK was born on December 14, 1929 at Mendham, SK, and passed away May 11, 2005, at the age of 75 years. At a very early age she moved off the farm to Regina, where she worked at Eaton’s for a short period of time. She then moved to Maple Creek, SK to work as a telephone operator, and continued with the same job in Gull Lake, and Swift Current, where she met Lloyd Williams in the summer of 1949, and she was married in the fall of 1950. She will live on in the memories of her husband of 55 years. Minnie is survived by one daughter, Debrah (Gordon) Sauder; five sons: Rodney (Karri), Barry (Patsy), Larry (Pam), Marty (Cheryl), and Jamey (Melissa); one sister, Barbaretta Chrisholm; brother-in-law, Ivor and Dorothy Williams; sisters-in-law: Lona, Anne, Florence, Lena, Kattie Koch; and special niece, Rose Lacher. Minnie was predeceased by her Russian mother and father, John and Emelia (Matz) Koch; her daughter, Donna (Wayne) Hahn; her grandson
, Mark Sauder; nine brothers; one sister; two brothers-in-law; and numerous sisters-in-law. Minnie will be remembered for her joy in partaking in traveling, starting after retirement, she spent the winter months with Lloyd pulling their trailer across the southern United States. As well, she enjoyed visiting such destinations as, Mexico, Hawaii, and the East Coast. She also treasured many days at the lakes around Swift Current, camping, fishing, and relaxing. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grand and great-grandchildren. Minnie was very much involved with oil wives, and cherished cheering on the Swift Current Broncos. Minnie spent many hours doing her jigsaws, and puzzle books. Due to her Diabetes., her health slowly declined over time and subsequently, Minnie spent more of her time at home with her family and friends. In her memory friends can make a donation to their local diabetes. association. Minnie will be forever in our hearts and loved always by her family and friends. The funeral service was held on Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Father Stephen Bill officiating. The pallbearers were: Wade Sauder, Darren Sauder, Jason Williams, Dustin Williams, Brody Williams and Corey Hahn. The ushers were: Ashley Williams, Shannon Hahn, and Amanda Williams. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Mr. Denis Fitzpatrick
Passed Away: May, 2005
FITZPATRICK – Denis George was born on February 7, 1926 in Hodgeville, SK to George and Daisy Fitzpatrick. Denis was the second eldest child in the family. Together with his siblings, Mary, George, and Eileen, Denis grew up on the family farm at Neidpath, SK. Denis eventually left the farm to try his hand at various occupations across Canada, from Trail, B.C. to Toronto. But the call of Saskatchewan brought him back to settle in Swift Current where he fell in love with and married Wilma Wylie in August of 1965. In April 1968, their first and only child was born – a son they named Steven. In the years that followed, Denis worked for the Dyck brothers as a stonecrusher operator and welder. He then worked for the village of Prelate as a town maintenance man and policeman. From there he moved to Cabri where he also worked in maintenance and had a brief stint with the C.P.R. Finally he moved back to Swift Current where he worked as a caretaker with St. Patrick’s School, until he retired due to a medical condition. Denis spent the last two months of his life at the Palliser Regional Care Centre after a series of strokes. Those who knew Denis, know how he loved to joke and tease. Even in the midst of trying circumstances he was able to smile. Denis was very competitive and loved to play board games as anyone who stopped by the house to visit soon found out. Denis loved when his three grandchildren came to visit. You could see his face light up when they hugged him and climbed into his lap. He loved to play music. His harmonicas were always close by ready to play an old dance song or hymn. But most of all Denis loved Jesus Christ, having become a born again Christian. His faith in God brought him through all life’s difficulties and Denis finished strong in Spirit. Denis is survived by his wife, Wilma (nee Wylie); son, Steven (Lana) and grandchildren, Tiffany, Jasmine and Jaydon. He was predeceased by his father, George; mother, Daisy (nee Smith) and his siblings: Mary, Eileen and George. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Sid Chalmers officiating. A special musical tribute was given by Denis’ son Steven and granddaughter, Tiffany. The pallbearers were: Roy Fitzpatrick, Lauren McDonald, Doug Cleveland, Doug Welsh, Jeff Heinrichs and Jim Fitzpatrick. The organist was Lorna Gehl. The interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in memory of Denis. Mr. Bernard Dirkson
Passed Away: April 29, 2005
DIRKSON Mr. Bernard, aged 84 years, of Waldeck, formerly of Rush Lake, passed away on April 29, 2005 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Bernie was born on April 23, 1921 in Wiinsdorf, Germany. In 1923 Bernie immigrated to Canada with his parents, Gerhard and Lydia Dirkson, settling in Main Centre, SK. In 1925 the family moved to Beechy, where he grew up and helped on the family farm. At age 16 Bernie left home to find work harvesting in Winkler, MB. In 1940 Bernie entered the Royal Canadian Air Force. Fourteen months after enlistment he was medically discharged with Tuberculosis and forced to spend the next eighteen months in bed in the Saskatoon Sanatorium. Bernie married Lenora K. Harder on July 23, 1946 in Swift Current, and started their life together farming in the Beechy area. They purchased farmland and moved to Rush Lake in 1950 to establish a dairy, raise beef cattle, grain farm and raise their four children. Bernie and Lenora were very active in the Rush Lake community with the 4–H clubs, curling and skating rinks, running a general store and serving in the Evangelical Church. Selling the dairy in 1972, they semi-retired on Lenora’s father’s farm in Rush Lake and operated the Central School Corner Store in Swift Current. Bernie stayed very involved in the farming business and enjoyed his time with the Herbert Ferry Regional Park Board. In 1995 his son, Berle, took over the farm in Rush Lake and Bernie and Lenora moved to Waldeck, SK. After a lengthy illness Lenora passed away on March 22, 2001. Bernie always enjoyed his daily trips to the farm to assist Berle and as Bernie said, “It seems once a country boy – always a country boy”. Bernie always felt most comfortable and at home in Rush Lake. Bernie was a hard worker overcoming many obstacles in his life, and not just wanting to live life but to experience it in its fullest and looked forward to the future. Bernie was an active member of the Herbert Gideon’s, a past member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and still served on the Kedleston Camp Board. Bernie had a strong belief in God and he faithfully served many years as the Full Gospel Church treasurer and a church board member. One of the highlights he experienced was a trip to Israel and his more recent trip to El Salvador in 2002 where he worked on a short-term mission-building project. Bernie was a quiet gentle example of a dedicated Christian 
– something his family is so proud of. He will be sadly missed by many many friends and leaves a big void to be filled with many happy memories. Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Lydia (Schiller) and Gerhard Dirkson; his loving wife, Lenora, on March 22, 2001; his brothers, Art and Jake; his sisters: Anne, Hannah and Lena. He is survived by his brothers: Henry, George (Hilda), and Dave; sister, Ella (Ed); and step-mother-in-law, Helen Rogerson; as well as many cherished in-law cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Bernie is also survived by his three sons: Bernard Wayne (Linda), Dwight (Treva), and Berle (Jane); and daughter, Cheryl (Barry); the pride of his life, his grandchildren: Kaija, Marla, Kelly, Chris (Crystal), Janine, Joshua, Chad, Chelsea; Lisa Casey (Wade); and the twinkle of his eye, his precious great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Full Gospel Church with Pastor Sid Chalmers officiating. The Pianist was Mildred Friesen and Lorna Gehl played the keyboard. The ushers were, Russell Dyck and Tom Weppler. Special music was performed by Pete and Leona Braun. The honorary pallbearers were the Herbert Gideon’s and the St. John Ambulance Brigade. The active pallbearers were grandchildren: Kelly Ljunggren, Christopher Ljunggren, Kaija Dirkson, Marla Dirkson, Janine Dirkson, Joshua Dirkson, Chad Dirkson, Chelsea Dirkson and Lisa Casey. The interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Donations may be made to the Gideon’s in memory of Bernie Dirkson. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
Reverend Herbert Peeler
Passed Away: April 16, 2005
On April 16, 2005 Mr. Peeler left us for a heavenly reunion with his wife, Sarah, of 54 years. He is survived by three sons: Lloyd (Noreen), David (Christina) and Wayne (Cathy), the pride of his life; grandchildren: Cheryl (Bevan), Shonna (Jason), Rick (Carolyn), Tammy (Johnny), Kristin (Scott) and Alison (Calum); great grandchildren: Megan-Jane, Bethany, Sarah, Natasha, Dylan, Dakota and Wyatt; and sister-in-law, Helen Dickson. Mr. Peeler devoted over seventy of his ninety-four years in the service of the Lord. As a young man he and Ed Erickson were familiar figures criss-crossing the province to hold evangelistic meetings in schools, tents, churches and bible camps. While at the same time, himself a recent graduate, he inherited the responsibility of the operation of the fledgling Moose Jaw Bible College, which had recently relocated to Pambrun, Saskatchewan, when it's founder, Mr. Millar died suddenly. The young school was renamed Millar Memorial Bible Institute, and although getting the young institution off the ground during the depression years was difficult, with the Lord's faithfulness it is still thriving today, as Millar College of the Bible. Although a humble man, Mr. Peeler did take great pride and have a deep love for the school he helped to create and especially the young people who attended there. He was renowned for his knowledge of the scriptures and his ability to communicate that information to others in his teaching. Hundreds of missionaries and pastors throughout the world trace their routes to the teaching they received at Millar College of the Bible. Mr. Peeler went to be with his Lord while gardening, one of his favorite hobbies, we know heaven is rejoicing to receive one of their own. A service in his honour will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2005 at Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun. In lieu of flowers donations to the H W Peeler Trust Fund, in care of Millar College of the Bible, would be appreciated. Mr. Douglas Foster
Passed Away: April 14, 2005
FOSTER Mr. Douglas Glen, of Swift Current and formerly of Bracken passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current on April 14, 2005 at the age of 80 years. Doug leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Elva (Bruce) McInnes, of Swift Current, and their family, Jodie (Bob) Thompson, Donald and Abigail of Houston, Texas, Trudy (Steve) Gusikoski, of Calgary and Kimberly Dyck and Jace of Calgary; Nordeen (Glen) Urquhart and their family, Jill and Andrew of Regina; Patty (Rick McAlpine) George of Waldeck and their family, Chris Johnson of Carrot River, SK, Brent Johnson of Waterloo, Ont., Jason Arnold of Kitchener, Ont., Charlotte Bosse of Delta, B.C. and Jolene George of Waldeck; one brother, Jim (Irene) Foster of Swift Current; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel, on August 16, 2003; his parents, Jim and Sarah Foster; one sister, Dorothy Hammer; and two brothers, Jack and Stan. Doug wad born on July 23, 1924, the youngest in a family of five. In 1951 he married Hazel, his wife of 52 years and together they made their home on the family farm in the Bracken district where they raised their three daughters. In 1979 they bought a new home in Swift Current and continued farming until 1992. The Memorial Service was held on Monday, April 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with Reverend John Barker officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson and the special music was provided by Karen Mitchell and Verna Howlett. The interment was held at the cremation section of Mount Pleasant Burial Park, in Swift Current. The United Church Ladies provided lunch. In memory of Doug Foster, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan would be appreciated by the family. Gisella Neumann
Passed Away: March 30, 2005
Gisela Waltraud Neumann (Zilch) was born on April 19, 1941 in Germany. Her family immigrated to Canada - arriving in Quebec on August 6, 1954. On August 9, they moved to Morse, Sask. and by December they were living in Herbert, Sask.
After Gisela finished her schooling in Herbert, she went on to work at the Bank of Montreal in Regina, Swift Current and Herbert, "moving closer" to Gerhard Neumann whom she married on October 12, 1963. During their 41 years of marriage, Gisela worked alongside Gary on their farm south of Herbert.While she didn't grow up on a farm - she learned quickly. She started out by milking cows and trucking grain for Gary and his two brothers in harvest time. Eventually, she operated every piece of equipment needed to farm the land. She also loved to work with livestock and did her share of "night time checks" during calving season.
When it came to involving their three children in the farm - it was Gisela who taught them how to run the machinery and bottle feed those calves. When the kids were younger, the family spent a great deal of time together at local fishing holes - in both summer and winter. While Gisela enjoyed taking Eddy and Dean to hockey and baseball games, she thought things would get easier when she had a daughter. But when Tracy joined 4H she said, "I never thought I'd be driving around the country pulling a stocktrailer and going to shows every weekend."
As a caregiver and "friend," Gisela's devotion to her family is truly treasured and appreciated. When Eddy was very young she spent a lot of time at his hospital bedside; She took care of her mother-in-law Anna; She kept the farm going when Gary had cancer and West Nile Virus - and when her granddaughter was sick in infancy - she camped out at the hospital again. As a "good listener" she also spent hours on the phone - every day - with her own mother and daughter.
Active in the community, Gisela was a member of the Lioness Club for several years and served as president. The church was also important in her life. Gisela was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran Church - and served in her church through Sunday School teaching, Ladies Aid and Church Council.
When Gisela's challenge with brain cancer took a serious turn in September 2004, she fought it with grace, determination and a bright smile on her face. Although she became paralyzed and lost her ability to speak - she regained those abilities if just for awhile. With a short but precious "second chance" she returned home to the farm for Christmas - and of course got to see those doggies she missed so much. With the help of her little nurse and cuddlebug, a.k.a "Little Grandma," (Kaitlyn) Gisela created a wealth of memories for her family.
The family will always think of the farm as Gisela's "special place." She enjoyed her yard and flowers, the apple trees she made so many pies from - and of course all those birds ranging from the geese that descend on the slough behind the farm to those "resident" owls that sound their watch all night long.
Gisela passed away at the Herbert Hospital on Wednesday, March 30, 2005. She is survived by her husband Gerhard, two sons Dean (Christina) Neumann of Herbert, Edward Neumann of Herbert and one daughter, Tracy (Tom) Harrison of Regina Beach - and one grandchild, Kaitlyn Harrison: her mother Hildegard Zilch of Morse, brother Horst (Margaret) Zilch of Endeavour and sister Helga (Elmer) Wigg of Lang. Also surviving are
seven nephews and seven nieces as well as other relatives. Gisela was predeceased by her two infant sisters, Liselotte in 1940, Renate in 1945, one infant brother, Ernst in 1948 and her father, Heinz, in 1999.
The funeral took place April 5th, 2005 at St. Olaf's Luthern Church in Swift Current. Interment was at the Herbert Cemetery. Donations in Gisela's memory to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
