Donna Elizabeth Cook
1944-2009
As she would have wished, surrounded by the family to whom she gave unconditional love and with the dignity befitting her true matriarchal self, Donna Elizabeth Cook (nee Tatton) passed away at high noon on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB. Donna lived in Bayside, NB where she is survived by her husband Lewis Cook, whom she adored and was completely devoted to for nearly 37 years. Identifying herself first as a mother, she was predeceased by an infant daughter Cathy. She lovingly raised and guided her four surviving daughters; Karen Richardson (John) Oak Bay NB, Bette Caissie (Mike) Minnesota, Malinda Bell (Ronald) St. Andrews NB and Maggie Cook (Ron) Bayside NB, from the moment of their births to the moment of her death. Donna is also survived by grandchildren; Michelle, John, Chris, Adam, Andrew, and Tobin and two great grandchildren Kendra and Isaiah. Donna was born in Brockway NB, on November 7, 1944. She is predeceased by her parents Norman Stuart Tatton and Edith Frances Little as well as special brother in law, Wayne McCullough. Growing up in Bethel NB she shared her family home with her 14 surviving siblings; Ruth Ellis (Norman) of St. George NB, Joan Lee (Harold) of Maine, Evelyn Tatton of Pennfield NB, Margaret Richard (Camille) of Elmsville NB, Audrey McCullough of St. Andrews NB, Ivan Tatton (Carolyn) of Bocabec NB, Pearl Scott (Clyde) of Bayside NB, Earl Scott (Debbie) of Bethel NB, Gerald Scott (Evangeline) of St. Stephen NB, Guilford Scott (Ellery) of St. Stephen NB, Peter Scott (Daphne) of Bethel NB, Willa Jean Foster (Donne) of Chamcook NB, Douglas Scott (Jacklyn) of St. Stephen NB and Bonny Firlotte (Danny) of Chamcook NB and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to share a time of remembrance on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 2 pm at the Oak Bay Rural Cemetery, Oak Bay NB. There is a reception to follow at the Bayside Community Hall. Donna’s wishes were for your kind donations to be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes. Rhoda Fern Eldridge
1921-2009
Rhoda Fern (Dick) Eldridge passed peacefully into the arms of God at her home, at St. George NB on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, surrounded by family. Born on September 2, 1921, at L’Etete NB to Bert and Edith (McMahon) Dick. A loving mother, grandmother and sister she is survived by one son, Allen (Laura) Eldridge of St. George NB, three daughters; Patricia Anderson, Evangeline “Eva” (Terry) Leslie of St. George and Dorothy Ann Eldridge all of St. George, five grandsons; Kyle, Kory (Jolene), Keith (Amanda), Bill and Cody, three granddaughters; Wendy (Mike), Christine and Leigha, two great grandchildren; Abby Kernighan and Grace Leslie, one brother, Clayton (Marjorie) Dick of St. George, one sister, Marion Barry of St. George, one aunt, Dorothy Kesselring of Calais ME, sister in laws; Frances Eldridge and Jean Dick and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Millen Eldridge, she was predeceased by one brother, Elwood and by two brother in laws; Gordon and Harold.
Rhoda moved to Philadelphia where she studied cosmetology and worked as an assistant with her uncle Dr. Frank Smith & Marion Dick, Osteopath. She came back to Canada and enlisted in the Army as a Dental Assistant where she continued to work until the war ended and this is where she met her first husband, Ben Miner. Following this, Rhoda had two daughters and studied nursing at the Colchester Regional Hospital. After this she began working at the Hospital in Blacks Harbour, now know as the Fundy Health Center. Rhoda’s first husband had passed away and she remarried Millen Eldridge of Beaver Harbour and had two more children. She continued working in Blacks Harbour and lived in Beaver Harbour until 1985 at which time she moved to St. George where she lived until she passed. Rhoda was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40, St. George, and belonged to the L’Etete Church of Christ. Rhoda’s spirit touched many lives and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. She was a kind, gentle and caring person who always accepted people wherever they were in life, always listening and never judging. She took life in stride and never let fear stand in her way of adventure, whether it was sea kayaking or traveling to unknown destinations.
A celebration of Rhoda’s life will be held at the L’Etete Church of Christ, L’Etete NB on Saturday at 10:30 am. Visiting at the church will be held on Friday from 3-7 pm. In Rhoda’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Helen Josephine Munroe
1942-2009
Unexpectedly at her residence on September 2, 2009, Mrs. Helen Josephine (Noddin) Munroe, wife of the late John Charles Munroe of Beaver Harbour NB. Born at Blacks Harbour NB on September 13, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Muriel Craig. A loving mother, sister and aunt, she is survived by one son, Kevin Munroe of Moncton NB, one daughter, Kimberley (Scott) Anderson of Bedford NS, one sister, Shirley (Bernard) Blinn of Coniston ON, three brothers; Danny (Nellie) Wright of Moncton NB, Arnold Craig (Linda Pilkington) of Coniston ON and Jimmy (Carol) Kavanaugh of Calais ME, and several half brother and sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was a well known and respected school teacher who taught at Blacks Harbour and Beaver Harbour schools for 32 years. She also enjoyed tutoring children in her home up until her passing. She was an avid walker who enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Local children will sadly miss her Christmas and Halloween displays she spent countless hours on. Helen was a member of the Brunswick Curling Club and attended the Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour. She will be sadly missed by the many friends she had made and the students she had taught over the years.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held from the Wesleyan Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Sunday at 4:30 pm with Rev. Jeff Hoyt officiating followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. In Helen’s memory donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

William "Bill" Frederick Buchanan
1937-2009
Unexpectedly, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 30, 2009, Mr. William “Bill” Frederick Buchanan, husband of Mrs. Carol (Stairs) Buchanan of Utopia NB. Born at St. George NB on June 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Clarence “Ted” and Mildred (Kagler) Buchanan. A loving husband, father, grandfather and nephew, in addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Buchanan (Steve Cooke) of Utopia, one son, Randy (Rose) Buchanan of New River NB, two grandchildren; Sarah Cheney and Matthew Buchanan, one aunt, Dora Mitchell of Tower Hill NB.
Prior to his retirement, Bill worked as a Welder by trade with Ocean Steel in Saint John NB for 46 years and belonged to the Iron Workers Local Union Local 809. Bill was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life like family, his friends and especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
At Bill’s request there will be no visitation at the funeral home and a private graveside service will be held at The St. George Rural Cemetery at a later date. In Bill’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Helen Marguerite Colwell
1934-2009
Helen went to be with Jesus on August 13, 2009. She is survived by her best friend and companion of 44 years, Maude Doughty. Mother of one son, James “Jay” Doughty and daughter Rebekah (David) Gillmor, two special grandchildren; Prescott and David Gillmor Jr., two sisters; Isabelle Spicer and Charlene (Doug) Rouse, two brothers; Rupert (Mary) and Laurin (Carley) Colwell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was a French and Business teacher for 35 years, retiring in 1978, then became co-owner of Maudie’s restaurant “Ship Ahoy” on Deer Island. She taught in Quebec at Laval West St. Halaire - St. Eustache and then at Chomedy High and Fundy High in New Brunswick. She and Maudie traveled to many places across the USA by motor home, also going on cruises seeing such places as Barbados, Haiti, Cuba and spent the winter in Florida. Helen was loved and respected by all those who knew her. She had a heart of gold and a love of God. She will be sadly missed and forever loved. God has her in his keeping but we have her in our hearts. She will also be sadly missed by her animals, especially Little Lad and Honky Tonky. God bless you my love! A special thank you to a special friend, Mary Anne Staples for being there for Helen and all of us.

Roger Dale Mahar
1951-2009
Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on August 9, 2009, Mr. Roger Dale Mahar, husband of Rose (Cook) Mahar of Blacks Harbour NB. Born at Blacks Harbour on April 11, 1951, he was a son of the late Sylvanus and Hazel Belle (Cooke) Mahar. A loving husband, father, special grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Rose, he is survived by one son, Adam (Samantha Cobham) of Blacks Harbour, five brothers; Howard (Shirley) of Truro NS, Robert (Betty) of Penticton BC, David (Eliza) of Blacks Harbour, Allen (Glenna) of Pennfield and Randy (Trudy) of Edmonton AB, six sisters; Dawn (Calvin) Justason of Pennfield NB, Lucy Tracy of Utopia NB, Janice (Ralph) Justason of Seeley’s Cove, Norma (Gerald) Belliveau and Dorothy (Mike) Barry both of Pennfield and Beth Mahar of Blacks Harbour as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, special friends, Alan (Linda) Brown of Grand Manan NB, and special island grandchildren, Dominick and Shyloh. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Patricia Seeley.
Roger was previously employed by Connors Bros for over 35 years. He was a member and dispatcher with the Blacks Harbour Fire Department for 20 years. Roger was very involved with his community as he was a fixture at the Blacks Harbour Arena for many years whether it be officiating at hockey games both on and off the ice and later as the announcer in the penalty box for the Blacks Harbour Silverkings and Jr. Silverkings, Fundy League and any arena function. He was also President of Connors Bros Softball League and will be remembered as a very special person at Christmas time.
Friends are invited to a time of visitation at the Calvary Baptist Church, Blacks Harbour NB on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm. A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at the church on Sunday at 2 pm with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Interment will be held at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory made to the Calvary Baptist Church, NB Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Charlotte County Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Wayne Arthur Barrett
1969-2009
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB, after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 28, 2009, Mr. Wayne Arthur Barrett, husband of Mrs. Allene (Kingston) Barrett of L’Etete NB. Born at Blacks Harbour NB on December 17, 1969 he was a son of Mrs. June (Randall) Barrett and the late Glenn Barrett. In addition to his wife Allene, he is survived by one daughter, Brooke and by one son, Brandon, both at home, one brother, Stephen (Margo) Barrett and nephew Ashton of Mascarene NB, special sister, Erica Borthwick of Elmsville NB, sister in-law, Allison Kernighan (Gregg) of Upper L’Etang NB, mother in-law, Regina Kernighan of Upper L’Etang. Wayne was predeceased by his father Glenn, paternal grandparents; Hazen and Margaret Barrett, and maternal grandparents; Kitchener and Velda Randall.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle who enjoyed his family immensely. His family and friends meant the world to him. His favourite pastimes included hunting, fishing and coaching hockey. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan as well as the Silverkings. He was a hard worker and a dedicated employee to Cooke's Aquaculture. He was an Irving coffee club member who enjoyed chatting amongst his friends and lived by the motto “Git-R-Done”. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, Back Bay NB from where the service will be held on Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Darren Millett and Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating. Visiting at the church on Wednesday from 7-9 pm, Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Friday from 10 am until 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to the Fundy Community Foundation(WAYNE BARRETT MEMORIAL YOUTH HOCKEY FUND-P.O. Box 3902, St Andrews NB, E5B 2N5) would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Charlotte County Cancer Society and to the people of Charlotte County for their generosity.
