1946-2009
Unexpectedly, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on September 13, 2009, Mrs. Wanda Lula (Smith) Parks, wife of Mr. Hugh B. Parks of Breadalbane NB. Born at Port la Tour NS, she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Nellie (Stoddard) Smith. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, in addition to her husband Hugh, she is survived by one son, Paul (Kathleen) Parks of Yarmouth NS, one daughter, Kimberly (John) Oliver of Second Falls NB, nine grandchildren; John, Jesse (Denise), Julia, Isaac, Josiah, Amos, Noah, Hannah and Cherith, seven sisters; Blanche (Fred) Webb of Boston MA, Lorraine (Herbert) Newell of Nova Scotia, Oleta (Warren) Cunningham of Port la Tour NS, Kathleen Stockton of Georgia USA, Rachel Roberts of Baccaro NS, Gladys Smith of Kennetcook NS and Nancy (Paul) Donelle of Kentville NS, three brothers; Ferwood (Dorothy) Smith of Port la Tour NS, Weldon (Shirley) Smith of Upper Port la Tour NS and Blanchard (Debra) Smith of Calgary AB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one son, Bruce, and four brothers; Gerald, Lawrence, George and Roscoe.
Wanda was a devoted mother who loved spending time with her family. She loved to garden, do crafts and was known for making beautiful quilts. She was a devoted Christian who stood strong behind her faith. Her friends and family will dearly miss her warm smile and loving heart.
Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, St. George NB from where the service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Darren Millett officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the church on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Wanda’s memory, donations to the St. George Baptist Church, the IWK Children’s Hospital, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Burton James Large
1947-2009
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB following a work place accident, Mr. Burton James Large, husband of Mrs. Katherine Landry of Leonardville NB. Born in Saint John NB on September 14, 1947, he was a son of Bert Large of Truro NS and Ruth (Smith) VanWeston of Saint John NB. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife Katherine, he is survived by one daughter, LeeAnn VanWeston and her daughter Caitlyn Milberry (Scott Sealy) of Saint John NB and by one son, Jason (Francine) Large and their children; Cody, Sam and Shawn Large of Deer Island NB, two step sons; Andrew (Tania) Jackson and their children; Emily, Sarah and Jonathan Jackson of Saint John, and Cordell Jackson (Amanda Seelye) and their children; Keeghan Jackson and Matia Seelye also of Saint John, his father, Bert (Beatrice) Large, his mother, Ruth VanWeston, sisters; Amanda Large (Darren Pickering), Terri (Marc) Henwood, Ann VanWeston, May (Tom) Campbell, Velma (Billy) Davis and Eleanor (Bob) Brown, brothers; Richard (Cheryl) VanWeston and Lee VanWeston and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Burton was predeceased by his step father, Joseph VanWeston and by one sister, Charlotte Lester.
Burton was employed by Ocean Horizon’s as a site manager. He loved being on or under the water, behind the wheel of his boat “Two Friend Ship” or scuba diving with his dive buddies. Prior to working at Ocean Horizon’s he was employed by General Freight, where he was awarded the Million Mile Award for accident free driving. He had a passion for living life and spending quality time with his loving family. Burton was a member of the Leonardville Church of Christ.
By Burton’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Leonardville Church of Christ on Saturday at 4:00 pm with Rev. Joel Bridges and Andrew Jackson officiating followed by a celebration of his life at the Fisherman’s Café at Lords Cove NB. In Burton’s memory, donations to the Leonardville Church of Christ Memorial Fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Friends who may have photos or stories of Burton are asked to bring them to the celebration at the Fisherman’s Café. Phoebe "Elizabeth" Toy
1910-2009
Peacefully at Ridgeview Manor, Pennfield NB on October 25, 2009, Miss P. Elizabeth Toy, formerly of St. George NB. Born at St. George on December 19, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Alvah and Phoebe (O’Brien) Toy. A loving sister, aunt and friend, she is survived by one brother, Eugene A. Toy of St. George, one brother in law, James Waycott of Fredericton NB, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Edwin and by one sister, Frances Waycott.
Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of St. George and was very active with the local Historical Society. At the age of 92, she co-authored a book with David Goss titled “St. George and Its Neighbours”. She was a member of the St. George Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society. For most of her working life, Elizabeth was a correspondent for the local area, working for the Telegraph Journal, The Daily Gleaner and the Quoddy Tides.
Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, from where the service will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Monday from 7-9 pm and on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Elizabeth’s memory, donations to the St. George Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. John Alexander Spear
1919-2009
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB following a lengthy illness, on October 28, 2009, Mr. John Alexander Spear, husband of the late Lora Alice (Hawkins) Spear of Pennfield NB. Born at Seeley’s Cove NB on November 16, 1919, he was a son of the late Fred and Grace (Grear) Spear. A loving father, grandfather and brother, John is survived by two daughters; Carolann Spear (Karl Whelan) of Pennfield NB and Eileen (Lindsay) Campbell of St. Andrews NB, one son, Brian (Rhonda) Spear of Pennfield NB, six grandchildren; Mary Anne (Haven) Wilcox of Blacks Harbour NB, Laura (Tony) Reniero of Victoria BC, John Theriault of Blacks Harbour NB, Corey (Melissa) Spear of Pennfield NB, Daniel (April) Spear of Utopia NB and Greg Spear of Fort St. John BC, 11 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, Lexis, one brother, Walter Spear of Blacks Harbour NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Lora, he was predeceased by one sister, Mary McCullum.
Prior to his retirement John was owner/operator of Spears Construction, a company he operated for 25 years. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Infantry and seeing action in France, Italy and Belgium. He was a very proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #39, Blacks Harbour NB, and was responsible for giving the Legion a respectable facelift. He was also an active member of the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk where he served as an Elder for many years. John was very loved and respected and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB from where the service will be held from The Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Lorne MacLeod officiating. Visiting at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and on Friday from 10 am until 12 noon. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the Pennfield Presbyterian Kirk or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Joan Audrey Gallagher
1933-2009
At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on October 30, 2009, Mrs. Joan Audrey (Lefevre) Gallagher, wife of Mr. Stephen A. Gallagher of L’Etang NB. Born at Toronto ON on October 26, 1933, she was a daughter of the late John and Doris (Barlow) Lefevre. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, in addition to her husband Stephen, she is survived by one son, Kevin S. Gallagher of L’Etang, three grandchildren; Ryan Gallagher of L’Etang, Julie Gallagher of Grand Prairie AB and Jennifer Gallagher of Fredericton NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joan was a very private person who loved her family. In her quiet time she liked to knit.
By Joan’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial Service will be held at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Monday at 2 pm with Rev. Lorne MacLeod officiating. In Joan’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, The Diabetes. Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Phillip John "Sam" Voutt
1965-2009
Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on October 30, 2009, Mr. Phillip John “Sam” Voutt of Bethel NB. Sam was born on July 22, 1965, and taken from us way too soon. A loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, he is survived by his wife Tammy Voutt of Bethel NB, father of, Alicia (Ryan) MacDonald of Canal NB and Joshua Voutt (Stefany Carter) of St. George NB, grandfather to grampy’s little girl, Mikayla and loved by Taffy Dog. He is also survived by his mother, Audrey McCullough of St. Andrews NB, two sisters; Debbie (Murdock) Harmon of Bethel NB and Carol Voutt of St. George NB, one brother, Dale (Amy) Voutt of Second Falls NB and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, G. Phillip Voutt.
Sam spent his whole life devoted to his wife and children. His whole world stopped for them, he lived for them and was proud of them. He was a true family man. He was best known as Charlotte County’s “Go To Guy”. Sam would help with everything from vehicles, equipment, hunting and most often just gave great advice. His garage was everyone’s meeting spot. Sam loved the outdoors, especially when it came to hunting with this best buddy, his son, and fishing with his bestfriend, his wife. Everyone who knew him knew what a beautiful person he was, he touched the heart of everyone, two legged or four. Although Sam spent his whole life always on call for others, he was presently employed with HSE Integrated working at Point Lepreau and had spent the past ten years as a boom truck operator with many of those years in the aquaculture industry. Sam will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Waycott Memorial Chapel on Monday at 4 pm with Rev. Giles Mullen officiating, followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Sam’s memory, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Charlotte County Cancer Society or the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by his loving family.
