Isabella Lorena Hatt
1918-2009
Peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB on November 15, 2009, Mrs. Isabella Lorena (McNichol) Hatt wife of the late Arnold R. Hatt formerly of Utopia NB. Born at Beaver Harbour NB on June 16, 1918, she was a daughter of the late John Colby and Gertrude Mae (Shaw) (McNichol) Hall. A loving mother, grandmother and aunt she is survived by 11 children; Arnold (Frances) Hatt of Utopia NB, Dale (Connie) Hatt of Pennfield NB, Gertrude (George) Paul and Allan Hatt both of Utopia, Betty Marshall of St. George NB, Colin (Edna) Hatt of Utopia, Brian (Jane) Hatt, Patricia “Patsy” (Ronnie) Roy and David (Beth) Hatt all of St. George, Jane (Brian) Ward and Dorothy “Dot” (Jeff) Hanley both of Utopia, 28 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband Arnold, she was predeceased by one son, Kenneth Hatt, two granddaughters; Wendy and Jennifer, one brother, John McNichol, two sisters; Elizabeth Clark and Leora Hatt, one son in law, Leo Marshall and two brothers in law; Aubrey and Sherman Hatt. Isabella was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Isabella spent most of her days being a mother and homemaker. She loved her family who kept her very busy and was well known for her homemade bread. Isabella was an avid Bingo player who liked to do word puzzles, knit and play cards, especially Crazy 8’s. Isabella enjoyed her shopping trips, mostly for shoes. She was a member of the St. George Baptist Church and will be sadly missed by all her family and many friends.
Resting at the St. George Baptist Church, St. George NB from where the service will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. Visiting will be held at the church on Sunday from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Isabella’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Marjorie Gertrude Booker
1932-2009
At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on November 29, 2009, Mrs. Marjorie Gertrude (Golden) Booker of Second Falls NB. Born at Second Falls on October 13, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Frances (Robbins) Golden. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by three sons; Timothy (Barbara) Booker and Matthew (Diane) Booker both of French Village NB and Nicky Booker of Second Falls NB, one daughter, Virginia (Jim) Meighan of Hampton NB, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three sisters; Frances E. Deveau of Utopia NB, Donna (Raymond) Deveau of Bonny River NB and Kathleen (Glendon) Buchanan of Second Falls, one aunt, Kay McBride of St. Stephen NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her partner, Gordon Armstrong, one daughter, Tracy Lynn Armstrong, one granddaughter, Christine Meighan, one brother, Arthur Golden and by one sister, Geraldine Kinney.
By Marjorie’s request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Elmsville Historical Cemetery, Elmsville NB on Wednesday at 2 pm. In Marjorie’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Loring Wesley Doughty
1918-2010
Suddenly at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on January 28, 2010, Mr. Loring Wesley Doughty, husband of Mrs. Delphine Doughty of St. George NB. Born at Leonardville NB on March 23, 1918, he was a son of the late Loring J. and Lizzie A. (Johnson) Doughty. A loving husband, step father, grandfather and uncle, in addition to his wife, Delphine, he is survived by one step son, Winslow (Anne) Newman of Campobello NB, one step daughter, Gail (James) Leavitt of St. George, three step grandchildren; Timothy and Sharon Newman and Andrea McFadden, four great step grandchildren several nieces, including special niece, Elaine Leslie of Rothesay NB, and nephews and cousins. Loring was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Lord) Doughty, and several brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Loring was a veteran of the Second World War and prior to his retirement worked as a Foreman at the Tuna Plant in St. Andrews NB. He was an avid game show fan and was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
By Loring request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island NB with Rev. Darren Millett officiating. In Loring’s memory, donations to the Edith Lank Christian Camp or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Chester "Sonny" Vance Norman
1934-2010
Chester “Sonny” Vance Norman, husband of Sylvia (Greene) Norman entered the gates of Heaven on January 28, at 2:05 am. Sonny was deeply loved by his wife, Sylvia, and by his children, Diane (Chris) Locke of Toronto ON, Cynthia (Kris) Bodja of Alberta, Robert (Maureen) Norman of St. George NB, Tracy (Joseph) Bennett of Ontario and Barbara (Vincent) Guptill of Grand Manan NB, one step son, Martin (Kitt) Ingersoll of Grand Manan. Grampy gave humor and love to his 14 surviving grandchildren and his six surviving great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Marguerite (Norman) Wentworth of St. George and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sonny was predeceased by one sister, Leona Seamans.
Prior to his retirement, Sonny was employed with the Armed Forces as a Peacekeeper for over 10 years, where he served as a Bombardier in the 1st Regiment of the RCA Highlanders. Following his service with the Armed Forces, he was employed as a plumber for 9 years. He had a special love for his family, especially teasing his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time at his trailor at Passamaquoddy Point. Sonny was Baptist by faith, having belonged to St. George Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir for 10 years, and also belonged to St. Andrews Baptist Church and most recently Union Street Baptist Church at St. Stephen NB
In keeping with Sonny’s wishes, no visitation will be held. A Memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2 pm from the Union Street Baptist Church, St. Stephen NB with Rev. Garth Williams officiating. The interment will be held at the St. George Rural Cemetery in the Spring. Following the service, a time of fellowship will be held at the Union Street Church Hall. Family flowers only, in lieu of flowers, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes. Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB.

Rhoda Mae Justason
1918-2010
At the Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews NB on January 23, 2010, Mrs. Rhoda Mae (McLanaghan) Justason, wife of the late Howard J. Justason formerly of Pennfield NB. Born at St. George NB on November 20, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Caroline (Gillis) McLanaghan. A loving mother and grandmother, Rhoda is survived by one son, Peter C. Justason and his wife Donna of New Hope PA, four grandchildren; Robert Justason and Ryan Justason both of New Hope PA, Steven Hooper (Shawnalynne Stewart) of Utopia NB and Wendy (Wilfred) Cline of Deer Island NB, five great grandchildren; Erika and Andrew Cline and Tyler, Josh and Liam Hooper and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Howard, she was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, Harold and James, and by one sister, Helen Gaudett.
Prior to her retirement, Rhoda was the owner/operator of Justason’s Diner, “Rhoda’s” in Pennfield for 30 years. She was a member of the Pennfield Lions Seniors and of the Christ Church (Anglican) of Pennfield where she served on the Altar Guild. She will be missed by the many friends which she has made over the years.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The service will be held from the Christ Church (Anglican), Pennfield NB on Thursday at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating. The interment will take place at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Rhoda’s memory, donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Clifton Alexander Thorne
1918-2010
Peacefully at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour NB, on January 22, 2010, Mr. Clifton Alexander Thorne, husband of the late Mrs. A. Marie (Kingston) Thorne, formerly of Canal NB. Born at St. George NB on February 7, 1918, he was a son of the late Johnny and Carrie (Hanselpacker) Thorne. A loving father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by three daughters; Ramona (Gary) Vance of St. George, Patricia (Mort) Frost of St. Stephen NB and Mary (Roger) Young of Canal, six sons; Clifton (Deannie) Thorne of Lake George NB, Bobby (Belinda) Thorne of Canal, Joseph (Debbie) Thorne of Oven Head NB, Edward (Nancy) Thorne of Bethel NB, Christopher (Brenda) Thorne and David Thorne both of Canal, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, one sister, Marjorie Reid of Chilliwack BC, one sister in law, Ruby Thorne of St. George and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers; Arthur and Delbert, one daughter in law, Barbara (Scott) Thorne, one brother in law, Jim Reid and one sister in law, Lillian Thorne.
Clifton was a veteran of the Second World War having served with the First Light Anti-Aircraft Division where he operated as a Dispatcher by motorcycle, serving in England, France, Holland and Belgium from 1940 – 1945. Following the war, Clifton worked as a meat cutter at Base Utopia and also worked for the D.O.T. He and his late wife Marie, operated Marie’s Diner, where he cooked until its closure in 1994. One of his first job’s was a Stone Cutter for the quarries around the St. George area and he was the last surviving stone cutter of that era. Collecting antiques, fighting with his kids and loving his grandchildren were his passions in life. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40 in St. George, who will be remembered for his storytelling and his great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George from where the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating. The family would like to welcome friends to a reception immediately following the service which will be held at the St. George Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 40. The interment will take place at the St. George Catholic Cemetery in the Spring. Visiting at the funeral home on Sunday from 7-9 pm and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. By request, family flowers only, and donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly apprecaited by the family. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40 will hold a Tribute Service Monday at 7 pm at the funeral home.
