Edmund J. Barrieau

Edmund J. Barrieau of Harvey Station passed away peacefully on April 5, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. Stephen on May 5, 1941, he was a son of Gertrude (Boucher-Barrieau) Gallant and the late Edward J. Barrieau. Edmund enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to play cards with his friends and family.

He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Barbara J. (McCullough) Barrieau, a loving father to his three children, Linda (Michael Groom), St. Stephen, Bob (Krista) and Michael (Gale), both of Harvey Station and grandfather to Jason, Erica, Stephen, Jeffrey, Robbie and Scott. Edmund is also survived by his mother of Harvey Station; his mother-in-law, Violet McCullough; his brother, Edgar (Marilyn), Fredericton; his sister, Eileen (Richard Phillips), Harvey Station; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father in 1974.

Resting at Swan Funeral Home, 1826 Route 3, Harvey Station with visiting hours on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2412 Route 3, Harvey Station on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 3 p.m. Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Interment will be later at Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

Justin Bert Brooks

Justin Bert Brooks a.k.a. Brutus, of Nackawic passed away March 25, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital as a result of injuries received in a automobile accident at Rossville. Born at Woodstock on August 12, 1983, he was a son of Leroy Brooks and Hilda (Grant) Brooks. Justin was employed with Cook Construction for the past two years. He enjoyed playing crokinole and wrestling under the name of The Walking Stone.

Justin is survived by his mother of Nackawic and his father of Halifax, NS; two brothers, Trevor and Tommy, both of Nackawic; a sister, Lisa Brooks, Nackawic; his fiancé, Cindy Nicholson; his maternal grandmother, Della Grant, Southampton; his paternal grandmother, Christina Brooks (Don Kerr), Woodstock; several cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Forest Grant and Burt Brooks. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Friday, March 28, 2003 at 2 p.m. Rev. Ivan Carr officiating. Interment will be later at Lenentine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Grant, Peter Grant, Andrew Grant, Cody Price, Kevin Cronkhite and Timmy Mean.

Rose M. Connors

Rose M. Connors of Nackawic, wife of Ambrose J. Connors, passed away March 30, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was born in St. Chrysostom, PEI on July 7, 1940, a daughter of the late Alfred and Madeline (Arsenault) Arsenault. Before beginning her full time career as a wife and mother, Rose was employed as an RNA at the Saint John General Hospital. She was a amateur coach and life member of the Nackawic Axe-l Skating Club and was a gold test judge with CFSA now known as Skate Canada. Rose enjoyed working with the Guides and Brownies while her daughters were involved. She enjoyed golf and curling and served in different positions on the Nackawic Curling Club board. At St. Simon and St. Jude Church she was a member of CCW and a member of CWL at St. John the Evangelist Church, Johnville. Rose was an avid fund raiser with all groups and devoted many hours as co-ordinator of Barrier Free '93 at her church and Curl For Cancer.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Charlene Myshrall (Kevin), Nackawic and Sandra Connors, Vancouver, BC; a brother, Eric Arsenault (Mertice), Saint John; two grandsons, Joey and Scott; several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and one uncle. In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred Jr. and infant George.

Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Simon and St. Jude Church, 199 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. by Rev. Dan Melanson. Interment will be later at St. Simon and St. Jude Cemetery.

Austin W. Crouse

Austin W. Crouse of Fredericton passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on March 28, 2003. Born in Zealand on June 19, 1918, he was a son of the late Murray and Ada (Hawkins) Crouse.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Myrtle G. (Merrithew) Crouse; three daughters, Marlene (Herman) Steeves of Fredericton, Helena (Phillip) Walton of Woodstock and Elaine (Donald )Walton of Centreville; a son, Myles (Judy) Crouse of Hanwell; a sister, Janie Morehouse, Zealand; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Austin was predeceased by an infant daughter, Wilma, two grandchildren, Terry and Larry Walton, a great grandchild, Amy Richard, three sisters, Helen Lefley, Lena Edmundson and Dorothy Morehouse and a brother, Wilmot Crouse.

Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours on Saturday, March 29, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. Rev. Conrad Brewer officiating, assisted by Rev. Steven Matthews, Rev. Peter Smith and Rev. Arol Brewer. Interment will be later at Stone Ridge Community Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Walton, Chris Walton, Andy Cole, Dwaine Morehouse, Dale Brewer and Edward Merrithew.

Jacqueline R. Gorman

Jacqueline R. Gorman of Millville passed away March 23, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born at Millville on October 8, 1935, she was a daughter of the late John and Della (Hoyt) Gorman. Jacqueline was a life long resident of Millville and her daily walks in the community will be missed by her neighbors and friends. For the past twenty two years she has made her home with her sister, Marjorie. Jacqueline was a faithful member of the Millville Wesleyan Church for many years.

She is survived by four brothers, Rev. J. Loren Gorman (Lorna), Millville, L. Earle Gorman, Yoho Lake, Arden L. Gorman (Izetta), Fredericton and Rev. Karl E. Gorman (Helene), Yarmouth, NS; five sisters, Marjorie Jewett, Millville, Maxine Jones (Murray), Millville, Paula Crouse (LeBaron), Yoho Lake, Ruth Braun (Ron), Yoho Lake and Pauline Foster (Clinton), Bowmanville, ON; many nieces and nephews in Canada, United States, South Africa and South America.

Jacqueline was predeceased a brother-in-law, Irvine Jewett and a sister-in-law, Ellen Gorman.

Resting at the Millville Wesleyan Church, 3931 Route 104, Millville with visiting hours Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. Funeral service will be held from the church on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. Rev. Mark Cooney officiating, assisted by Rev. Fred Whittier. Interment will be later in Millville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Cookson, Owen McGuire, Brian Matchett, Leroy Jewett, Jeff Matchett and Paul Jewett.

March 14, 1930 - August 23, 2003

Della H. M. Grant of Southampton, passed away at the Carleton Memorial Hospital, Woodstock on Saturday, August 23, 2003. She was born in Queens County on March 14, 1930. Della was a member of the Temperance Vale United Pentecostal Church, a housewife and a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Della is survived by three daughters, Hilda Brooks, Campbell Settlement, Margaret Wright (Forrest), Temperance Vale and Sharon Drost (Roger), Fredericton; six sons, Henry Grant (Sally), Curtis Grant, George Grant (Donna), all of Southampton, Wayne Grant (Edith), Debec, Roy Grant (Cheryl), Skiff Lake and Walter Grant (Connie), Bear Island; a sister. Mabel Greenslade, Wickham; four brothers, Kenneth Mott (Hattie), Wickham, Rev. Dale Carson (Carolyn), Terry Carson (Barbara), both of Saint John and John Carson (Dorothy), Quispamsis; twenty-nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Della was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Forrest Luther Grant in 1987, two grandsons, Victor Grant in 1993 and Justin Brooks in 2003.

Resting at the Temperance Vale United Pentecostal Church, 34 Pike Hill Road, Temperance Vale with visiting hours Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the church. Rev. Terry Brewer officiating assisted by Rev. Wayne Schriver and Rev. Dale Carson. Interment in Lenentine Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Trevor Brooks, Tommy Brooks, Peter Grant, Andrew Grant, Joseph Wright and Jerry Grant.

Ethel Pearl Hanson

Ethel P. Hanson of Zealand passed away October 16, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born at Zealand, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Lois (Hanson) Morehouse.

She is survived by two sons, Timmy and Douglas Hanson, both of Zealand, several nieces and nephews.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Douglas Hanson, two sons, Austin Hanson and infant Morley, one sister, Mary Morehouse and one brother Elwood Morehouse.

Resting at Stone Ridge Pentecostal Church, 164 Upper Stone Ridge Road, Zealand with visiting hours Saturday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service held on Sunday, October 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the church with Rev. Arol Brewer officiating. Interment in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Zealand.

Pallbearers will be Colin Brewer, Terrance Brewer, Rockland Brewer, Munroe Brewer, Adam Brewer and Timmy Brewer.

Merlin Glenwood Lawrence

1935 - 2003

Merlin G. Lawrence of Greenhill Lake passed away October 20, 2003 at Zealand.

Born at Zealand on September 15, 1935, he was a son of the late Cecil and Helen (Brewer) Lawrence.

He joined the staff of Campbellton Composite High School in 1958, retiring in 1991.

The Campbellton Rotary Club honored him with the Paul Harris Award for community dedication and the embodiment of the spirit of Rotary. Merlin became involved in the driver education program contributing many hours of volunteer work in the high school.

Merlin began his summer employment with the City of Fredericton over 45 years ago under the director of recreation, Johnnie Vey as baseball director and playground director until 2000.

He completed a course to become a certified playground equipment inspector through the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association. He was the first recipient of the Jim Fox Award, the highest honor bestowed by the RPANB.

Merlin was involved in community events, strongly supportive of the Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation and played a key role in the Labatts 24 Hour Relay and Hospathon events.

He was a member of the Millville Royal Canadian Legion, the Fredericton Fish and Game Association and the New Brunswick Wildlife Federation.

He is survived by a sister, Anita Jones (Garnet), Fredericton; two brothers, Laurel Lawrence (Ruth), Fredericton and Lyman Lawrence (Donna), Zealand; a special aunt, Muriel Estey, Zealand; four nieces and one nephew.

By request of the family there will be no visitation. A private family committal will be held later at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Zealand.
