Willis Goodwin

February 13, 2001

The death of Willis Goodwin, age 78 of Baie Verte, NB occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 13, 2001.

Born in Coburg, NB he was a son of the Late Clarence and Alice (Goodwin) Goodwin.

A former employee of General Motors in Oshawa, ON , he worked as a stone mason after returning to the Maritimes in 1964.

Willis is survived by 2 daughters, Debbie (Gerald) Goodwin, Baie Verte and Ella (John) Raaphorst of Bowmanville, ON, a brother Bob of Coburg, 2 sisters, Audrey Beal, Port Hope, ON and Rhoda (Andy) Macdonald, Coburg, ON, 4 grandchildren, Travis, Cindy, Kevin and Dale and 2 great grandchildren, Crystal and Kym. He was predeceased by his wife the former Hilda Sprague in 1997 and a son Albert in 1997.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visiting hours Thursday from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 2 PM. Rev. Stephen McAllister officiating. Burial in the Baie Verte Cemetery in the spring.

Howard G. Throop

1915 - 2001

The death of Howard G. Throop, age 85 of Stephens Dr, Sackville occurred on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Point De Bute, NB, he was a son of the late Albert and Ethel (Lewis) Throop.

A lifelong mechanic and machinist he was a former service manager with Lounsbury Company in Sackville retiring in 1982. Howard was owner/operator of Marshview Trailer Park, and a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville.

Howard will be sadly missed by sons; Ludger (Irene), Norman (Joyce), Roger (Joan) all of Sackville, 5 daughters; Delia Bates of Bowmanville, ON, Evangeline Lirette of Scoudouc, Rosella Nadeau of Waterloo, QC, Roberta (Louis) Collins of St. Leolin, NB, and Jeannette (John) Strang of Sackville, 2 brothers; Fred (Doreen) of Chiliwack, BC, and Albert (Matilda) of Norway House, MN, 2 sisters; Thelma Williams of White Rock, BC, and Frances (George) Orbean, Vancouver, BC, 37 grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Hedwidge (Landry) in 1992, 3 brothers; Edgar, Leroy and Edmund and 3 great grandchildren.

The remains are resting Wednesday from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300). A prayer vigil will be held at the funeral home on Thursday night at 8:30, all are invited. A celebration of the mass will be held at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 1, 2001 at 2 PM, Rev. Father Jeff Doucette officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Clara Walton

The death of Clara Walton, age 86, of Port Elgin, formerly of Murray Corner, occurred at the Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin on Tuesday, February 19, 2002.

Born in Murray Corner, she was a daughter of the Late George and Henrietta (Scott) Stright. A school teacher , she taught in Anderson Settlement , Murray Corner and Port Elgin for 20 years. She was a member of the Murray Corner United Church, former superintendent of the Sunday School and former president of the UCW. A very creative person, she was a quilter, crocheter and handy worker.

She will be sadly missed by three sons; Rodney (Marilyn) and Larry (Heather) both of Murray Corner and Ivan (Sue) of Malden, NB. Three daughters; Lillian (Dewey) Trenholm of Port Elgin, Janet (Arden) Trenholm of Fredericton and Carolyn (Neil) Allen of Cape Spear Road, NB, 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Arlene Wiggins, Vancouver, BC and Nellie Dulenty, Murray Corner and a brother Henry Stright, Murray Corner. She was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Anne in 1957 and by her husband Courtney Walton in 1998 and a brother Kenneth.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral will be held at the Murray Corner United Church on Friday, February 22, 2002 at 3 PM, Rev. Carolyn Byers officiating. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery in the Spring.

Clara Estabrooks

The death of Clara Estabrooks, age 79 of Midgic occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 5, 2002.

Born in Centrevillage, she was a daughter of the Late Thomas and Hattie (Patterson) Kay.

Clara will be sadly missed by 5 sons, Roger (Linda), Sackville, Timothy, Moncton, Daniel (Linda), Peter (Debbie) and Paul (Charlotte), all of Midgic and 3 daughters, Nancy (Don) Crossman, Sackville, Bonnie (Gary) Beal and Veronica (Brian) Dobson, both of Midgic. 2 sisters, Mary (Leon) LeBlanc, Shediac and Dolly (Ross) Phinney, Sackville, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Alder in 1988, by 2 infant daughters, Olga and Josephine and by sisters and brothers, Lina, Bessie, Daisy, Rhoda, Jessie, Kelcie, Rosie, Ronald and an infant brother.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 8, 2002 at 2 PM. Burial in the Midgic Cemetery in the spring.

Ella Gertrude Allen

The death of Ella Allen, age 84, of Sackville and formerly of Port Elgin, occurred at the Dr. George DuMont Hospital, Moncton on Sunday, February 3, 2002.

Born in Johnson's Mills, she was a daughter of the Late Winslow and Nettie (Wheaton) Tower.

She is survived by 2 daughters; June (Andrew) Best of Westcock, NB and Gloria (Tom) Steep, Durham Bridge, NB 5 grandsons, 1 great grandson; 1 brother; Arthur (Phyllis) Tower, Hamilton, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Winston in 1972, 2 brothers; Raymond and Lyman and 3 sisters, Hestle, Florence, Marion.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Monday from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 2 PM. Interment in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin in the spring.

Brenda Blackburn

The death of Brenda Blackburn, age 60, wife of Douglas Blackburn of Cape Tormentine occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 23, 2002.

Born in Upper Cape, she was a daughter of Dorothy (Allen) and the Late Thornton Ogden. She was a member of the Timber River Pentecostal Church

Brenda will be sadly missed by her husband, Douglas, Cape Tormentine, her mother , Dorothy, Pictou, NS, 6 brothers, Moody, Tim, Dale, Mark, Clinton and Roy, 4 sisters, Esther, Mildred, Faith, and Sheila. She was predeceased by her father and a brother Rick.

The remains are resting at the home of her friends, Garth and Joan Trenholm, Cape Tormentine, NB where visitation will be held Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon and evening. The funeral service will be held at the Timber River Pentecostal Church on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at 2 PM, Pastor Al Leonard officiating. Arrangements in care of Jones Funeral Home, Sackville and Port Elgin (364-1300)

Frona Davis

Frona Davis passed away peacefully at her home in Port Elgin on August 22, 2002.

She was born in Shemogue, NB on June 16, 1911, daughter of the late David and Henrietta (Brine) Dobson.

She attended Trinity United Church in Port Elgin and was a life member of the United Church Women. Frona was a telephone operator prior to her marriage and birth of her six children. She delivered the rural mail for many years, but always remained a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbour and friend.

She is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Booth, Moncton, Elizabeth (Mitchell) Mountain, Ottawa, Cheryl Fairbrother (Don McCue), Saint John; three sons, Reginald (Lois), Stanley, Douglas ( Judy), Moncton, Donald (Lillian), Port Elgin; one brother, Lloyd (Ann) Dobson, Shemogue and sister-in-law Genvieve Dobson, Cambridge, ON. She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Davis, 1978, son-in-law, Edwin Booth, 2002, three sisters, Daphna Glatz, Lola McDermott, Kathleen Cullen and two brothers, Leslie and Gaius Dobson.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visitation Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Trinity United Church, Port Elgin on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 2 PM. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery. Donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.

Marion Stephens

The death of Marion Stephens, age 96 of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 16, 2002.

Born in Sackville she was a daughter of the Late John and Minnie (Snowdon) Wheeler.

Marion worked at the Mount Allison Library for 12 years and 5 years on the lake boats in Ontario. She was a member of the Ruby Rebekah Lodge and Past Noble Grand Club.

Marion will be sadly missed by 2 daughters, Marjorie (Ivan) Dobson, Amherst, and Rachel (Ernest) Ryan, Smith's Cove, NS, 7 grandchildren, 1 foster granddaughter and 4 great granddaughters, 2 brothers, Laurie and Bill, both of Sackville. She was predeceased by her husband Earl, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Wednesday 7 to 9 and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home, Friday, April 19 at 11 AM. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery.
