Harvey Read

The death of Harvey Read, age 82 of Sackville occurred at his home with his family by his side, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Frank and Celeste (Trenholm) Read. Harvey was employed with Fawcett Foundry (Enheat) for 36 years prior to his retirement. He was well known as Mr. Fixit by all who knew him.

Harvey will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Irene (Estabrooks), 3 daughters, Linda (Roger) Estabrooks, Sackville, Nancy (Allan) Mattinson, Greenwood, NS and Susan (Gordon) Atkinson, Westcock, NB, one son, Thomas, (Dora), Lower Sackville, NS, 2 brothers, Arthur (Kay), Sackville and Brenton (Faye), Mississauga, ON, , 3 sisters, Margaret (Doug) Hamilton, Saint John, NB, Mary Goodwin, Baie Verte, NB and Mildred (Robert) Blair, Collingwood, ON, 13 grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael, Richard, Christine, Alexander, Stephen, Tara, Alana, Niki, Melissa, Amie, Lacey and Kaylee. He was predeceased by siblings, Reuben, Vaughan and Irene.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 11 am, Pastor Barry Todd officiating. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery. Donations to the Extra Mural Hospital, the NB Spina Bifida Assoc. or a charity of the donor's choice.

Walter A. Trenholm

The death of Walter A. Trenholm, age 90 of Jolicure and formerly of Baie Verte and Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 6, 2003.

Born in Baie Verte, he was a son of the late Carritte and Janet (Goodwin) Trenholm. Walter was well known throughout the Maritimes as a CNR conductor, having worked on the railroad for 39 years, prior to retirement. He was a member of St. James United Church, Baie Verte, the Baie Verte Senior Citizens, Westmorland Lodge #44 F & AM , past president of the Port Elgin Rotary Club, and former member of the Knights of Pythians, and past member of the UTU.

Walter will be sadly missed by his close friend and companion, Olive Allen, Jolicure, 2 sons, Allison (Betty) and Austin (Lois), both of Sackville, 2 grandchildren, Walter and Steven (Tanya), 2 great grandchildren, Kyle and Timothy, 2 sisters, Fidella D'Orsay, Toronto and Anna Everett, Bayfield, NB. He was predeceased by his wife the former Jean Turner in 1984, a grandson Albert, and by brothers and sister, Manford, Wylie, Eugene and Amy.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Baie Verte United Church on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 2 pm, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. Burial in the Baie Verte Cemetery.

Westmorland Masonic Lodge # 44 F & AM will hold a masonic memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 pm

Cecil Freeman Ward

The death of Cecil Ward occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the age of 90.

Born in Wood Point, he was a son of the late Bedford and Alice (Boyce) Ward.

Cecil was a fisherman out of Wood Point for 17 summers, and a mason by trade for over 40 years. He loved to dance and listen to music. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church.

He will be sadly missed by his sons; Everett (Bud) and Phyllis of Sackville, Larry of Sackville and Edward (Judy) of Point de Bute, daughters Alice and Elliott King of Springhill, Geneva (Bob) Hicks of Sackville and Mary Lowerison (Ken Sears) of Moncton, 14 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and special friend Alberta Ibbitson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Orpha Reid in 1989, as well as 3 grandchildren; Wayne, Bruce, and Dean Hicks. The last surviving member of his immediate family he was also predeceased by 4 brothers Harold, Charles, Cedric and Harvey, 7 sisters; Lita, Ethel, Hester, Viola, Vivian, Hilda and Susan.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville, NB (364-1300) with visiting hours on Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2003 at 11 am, Pastors Barry Todd and Vernon Vickruck officiating. Burial will follow in the Westcock Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Westcock Cemetery.

Norman Amos

The death of Norman Amos, age 80, occurred at the Westford Nursing Home in Port Elgin, on Monday, July 7, 2003.

Born in Little Shemogue, he was the son of the late James and Emma (Scott) Amos Norman was a farmer and fisherman living in the Little Shemogue community all of his life.

Norman is survived by his brother Thomas (Stella) Amos, Guysborough County, NS and by nieces Hilda (Stephen) Murphy, Liverpool, NS and Leona Amos, Lower Sackville, NS. He was predeceased by brothers Fred, Herbert and Ford.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin with visitation Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Port Elgin United Church on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 11 am. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery.

Dorine Phinney

July 17, 2001

The death of Dorine Phinney, age 75, wife of Alvin Phinney occurred on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Dieppe, NB, she was a daughter of the Late Edgar and Bella (LeBlanc) Snow.

She was an active member of the GRS Service Club (CB).

Dorine will be sadly missed by her husband Alvin Phinney, Sackville, 3 sons, Blair Richard, Dorchester, Sheldon Phinney, and Terry (Shelley) Phinney, both of Sackville, 6 daughters, Pauline Graham, Sault Ste. Marie, ON., Bernice (Steeve) Weeks, Bracebridge, ON, Elaine (Jean Louie) Lirette, Cocagne, Marlene (Edward) Christie, Rockport, Jeanine (Leroy) Mitton, Dorchester and Anna (Charles) Jewers, Cambridge, ON, a step-daughter, Marion Grace (Barry) Wood, Houston, BC, 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Blair Richard and by a son Alyre in 1987.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 20, 2001 at 11 AM, with Rev. Barry Todd officiating. Burial in the Midgic Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Diabetic Association or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.

Stanley Elbridge Tower

June 3, 1911 - February 16, 2001

The death of Stanley Tower, age 89 of Saint John and formerly of Sackville occurred at the Loch Lomond Villa on Friday, February 16, 2001 following a lengthy illness.

Born in Rockport, NB he was a son of the Late Irvin and Della (Maxwell) Tower.

A 37 year employee of Enamel and Heating he retired in 1976. He was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church.

Stanely will be sadly missed by his 4 sons, Edward (Breta), Newmarket, ON, Colin (Linda), Quispamsis, Tony (Geri), Sackville and Phillip (Irene), Sackville, NS, 2 step-daughters, Loretta Mahaffey, Arlington, Texas and Valerie (Donald) Fitzpatrick, Saint John, 2 sisters, Marion Cole, Sackville, Verna Dudinsky, Canmore, AB, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 wives, Lalia Cole in 1986 and Rhoda Vincent in 1999, 3 brothers, Lloyd, Hedley and Cecil and 1 sister Shirley.

The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364--1300) with visiting hours Sunday from 7 to 9 and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at 2 PM, Rev. Barry Todd officiating. Burial in the Rockport Cemetery in the spring. Donations to the Alzheimers Society or the Main Street Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Ida Hewitson

The death of Ida Hewitson, age 97 of Sackville and formerly of Chesley, ON , occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, December 31, 2002.

Born in Chesely, ON, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Murray) Fullerton.

Ida will be sadly missed by her son, Kenneth(Heather) Hewitson, Elmwood, ON, her 2 daughters, Carol (Don) Brown, Tweed, ON and Doreen (Wilbur) MacWilliam, Sackville, NB, 3 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband David Hewitson, brothers, Franklin and Ralph and sisters, Mildred Byers, Elda Perkins and Florence Byers.

The remains have been forwarded to the McFadden Funeral Home, Chesley ON, with visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the McFadden Funeral Home, Chesley on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 2 PM. Interment in the Chesley Cemetery. Sackville, NB arrangements in care of Jones Funeral Home, (506-364-1300). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Extra Mural Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.

Eva Louise Austin

The death of Eva Austin, age 84, of Westcock, occurred at the Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin on Saturday, February 9, 2002.

Born in Salem, Mass. she was a daughter of the late Philippe and Marie (Paradis) Roy.

A landed immigrant she came to Canada with her husband George Austin in 1954 settling in Rockport, NB. At an early age she was interested in flying and acquired her license as an airplane pilot in 1945. During World War II, she worked at Bath Ironworks constructing Naval Ships.

She is survived by 3 Sons, George (Kathy), Florence, Alabama, Albert (Beverley), Lakeworth, Fl. and Henry, Westbrook, Conn., 1 daughter Shirley (Douglas) Grant, Westcock, NB 9 Grandchildren, Anne-Marie, Donna, Wayne, David , Roy, Herbert, Anthony, Travis and Marie, and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George Austin in 1993 and a grandson James in 1992.

A family service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) Sunday. Burial will be in the Sackville Cemetery in the spring.
