ADAM: Mrs. Joan Frances Adam, beloved mother of Tanya (Dwayne) Swintak, Kim Coleman (Oct 24, 1956 – July 1, 2006), Catherine (Daniel) Vaillancourt and Bob (Shirley) Adam, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Friday, June 20, 2008 at the age of 74 years. Mom was born July 4, 1933 at Elliotvale, P.E.I. in her parents, John and Florence McInnis, farmhouse. She grew up on the Island and that is where she met her husband Bob (J.P. Robert) Adam while he was stationed there. Dad was a proud member of the Canadian Air Force. After marrying Dad, they lived in various locations in Canada and abroad. Mom saw a great deal more of the world while being married to Dad during his employment with the Air Force and in retirement, as they both enjoyed camping and would pack up the camper and head out to various locations. Dad passed away July 31, 1994. Mom was an amazing and beautiful mother and woman. She gave so much to others in her many special ways. She found enjoyment in recent years playing bridge at Prairie Oasis and Valleyview Community Centre. Mom was not able to attend card games held at her favorite locations in recent months, but would play various card games with her sister Eleanor (McInnis), daughter Tanya, her granddaughter’s Missy and Megan (Swintak), and grandson Aaron (Coleman) at her home and while she was at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She played all her games with the goal of winning in mind, no matter who she was playing against. It didn’t matter if it was against an adult or grandchild. She said it was important for them (grandchildren) to learn that we can’t always win at everything and to lose graciously. She had many more life lessons and values she shared with all of us. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and made many witty comments that would bring a smile to anyone’s face. When mom really laughed, her face would reflect so much happiness and her eyes had a magical twinkle. She is greatly missed by all of her family and friends, and is forever in our thoughts and hearts. The Funeral Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on June 24, 2008 with Fr. Raju Madanu of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Unit 3-824-18th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 5B7 or to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.

BROWN: Ronald Stephen Brown passed away peacefully at his residence, Fairview Home, on Saturday, October, 21, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Ron was born in Edmonton on September 15, 1916 and received his schooling there. He joined the RCMP in 1938 at the age of 22 and throughout his career he saw 35 postings in 14 locations throughout Manitoba and Ontario including Beausejour, Whitemouth, Winnipeg, Treherne, Ottawa, Selkirk, Kenora, Thunder Bay and Portage la Prairie. It was during one of these postings in Winnipeg Beach that he met Angie Russin and they were married December 4, 1947. Ron was a wonderful husband to Angie and father to his four children, Patricia, Reid, David and Stu. Together the family traveled down many roads and now share many wonderful memories of their times with Ron. One of Ron’s favorite postings was to Kenora, Ontario on beautiful Lake of the Woods. Ron purchased a cottage lot on the Lake in 1961 and over the next 40 years lovingly pounded every nail himself producing a wonderful summer home which his family still enjoys today. Ron loved the lake and continued to spend time there well into his 80’s. Ron was a very dignified Mountie and wore the colors proudly. He retired from the RCMP with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1967 with 30 years service. His final posting was in Portage and from here he moved to Brandon gaining employment with the Manitoba Department of Finance where he worked for 15 years, retiring in 1982. After his retirement Ron was very active with numerous groups including The Manitoba Toastmasters, Masonic Lodge, Canadian Legion and numerous charitable organizations. He was a lifetime member of the RCMP Veterans Association where he embellished his role as Historian keeping meticulous records of current and past RCMP issues. He wrote and published many stories pertaining to the RCMP and all who knew him will no doubt have heard one of his numerous tales that he loved to tell again and again. Ron was awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal in 2004 for his many accomplishments and was an extremely proud and deserving recipient. Ron was a gentle man and loved all animals. He had a special fondness for dogs and horses and after his retirement he enjoyed many years following the Manitoba Harness Racing Association. He was also an avid and enthusiastic curler and was still curling at the age of 85 years. Ron moved into his most recent home at Fairview in August 2004. He was a people person and made many new friends and enjoyed many good times and visits with family during his stay. An unfortunate fall and subsequent hip fracture this past July slowed him somewhat but he modified his routine and remained the dignified and gracious friend and father we all knew. A final highlight for Ron occurred this past September when family gathered to celebrate his 90th Birthday. It was a very happy day for Ron and he enjoyed the festivities with many smiles. Ron was a very loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great- grandfather. He set an example of honesty, gentleness, commitment, responsibility and gratefulness that touched all who knew him. He was not only a peacekeeper in his life but also a peace maker. He was very easy going and we always knew his response to anything we asked would be "not bad". Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Angie of Brandon, daughter Patricia (Peter) and son David (Karen) of Winnipeg, and son Stu (Donna) of Brandon. He is also survived by granddaughters Tracey Falconer (Jordan, Carson & Courtlyn) and April Stevenson (Mike), all of Winnipeg, and by his sister Margaret Rolstone of Victoria, BC. Ron was predeceased by his son Reid in 1953 and by his brothers Les in 2000 and Percy in 2001. A funeral service celebrating Ron’s life was held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at St. George’s Anglican Church. Following cremation interment occurred at the Wakefield Cemetery near Petersfield, MB where Ron was laid to rest with his son Reid. If friends so desire, a donation in Ron’s memory may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th St. East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 7M6.

BEEVER: Kenneth (Ken) Beever, beloved husband of Joyce (Dawson), loving father of Kathy of Calgary, and Karen of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully at Fairview Personal Care Home on October 7, 2006 at the age of 83 years. Ken was born in Lincoln, England on August 30, 1923 to Richard and Maude Beever. He moved with his parents to Canada in 1924. They farmed at Elva, Rivers, and Beresford, Manitoba and settled in the South Brandon district in 1945. Ken attended Elva, Rivers and Maine Schools and achieved his grade 10 by correspondence. He was an avid reader and excelled in mathematics and geography. One of Ken’s favorite activities was dancing, and The Palladium was a popular place to be in Brandon. This is where he met Joyce Dawson. They were married in St. Paul’s United Church on October 30, 1954. Ken and Joyce had two daughters, Kathy (Calgary) and Karen (Winnipeg). Ken served as a trustee on the local South Brandon School Board before schools amalgamated. From 1972 to 1986, he was a trustee with the Brandon School Board, Division #40. Being a member of the School Board provided Ken with many years of enjoyment, lasting friendships and privileged opportunities. One of Ken’s proudest moments was meeting Princess Anne. Ken was a hardworking man. Despite the constant demands of operating a mixed farm, he would (as much as possible) reserve Sunday as a family day. The family enjoyed drives in the country, swimming and picnics at Souris and Oak Lake, and visiting with friends and neighbours. Ken appreciated the splendor of God’s creatures and would gather the family to take them to his latest discovery. Raccoons in a tree, a mother kill-deer and her young, a porcupine, or fox on the old railway tracks, Ken enjoyed showing his family the beauty of nature and the importance of protecting it. Ken would often "spill" a few oats outside the granaries to help the wild animals get through the winter. Farming and agriculture where very important to Ken. Ill health meant a big change and he and Joyce retired to Brandon in 1987. Ken would make walks to the mall, sometimes two or three times a day. While he liked the fresh air and exercise, he especially enjoyed meeting friends for coffee and chatting with the greeters and clerks in the mall. Other interests were curling, bowling and baseball, his favorite team being the Blue Jays. Ken was well known for his keen sense of humour and quick wit. He was a gentleman, a generous person and a man of good values. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Maude Beever and sister, Pauline Mellis. Left to mourn are his wife Joyce and daughters Kathy and Karen Beever. A Celebration of Ken’s Life was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Thursday, October 12, 2006 with Lisa Hammond, Funeral Celebrant, officiating. Placement of the urn followed at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to the Canadian Diabetes. They moved to Calgary in 1972 where weekends were spent camping, fishing and exploring in the mountains. In 1974, Mark and Rita moved to the Wawanesa area, where Mark built their home at Noble Lake, and enjoyed many gatherings of friends and family for outdoor activities.
