In their early married years they were active in horse jumping. Before becoming a mom, Shirley worked for the Manitoba Telephone System in Wawanesa. She thoroughly enjoyed activities with the Unit V women’s group at Knox United Church in Brandon. Shirley loved her yard and her garden. She had many pets over the years, including a Scotty dog named Tony, and generally cared for all creatures of the animal kingdom. CAMPBELL: John "Harley" Campbell, late of Brandon, passed away suddenly at the age of 52 years. Born in Wawanesa and raised there and in Brandon, Harley graduated from Vincent Massey High School and later from Brandon University as a teacher. He went on to study athletic therapy and sports injury management at Sheridan College in Oakville, ON. Harley’s life passion was the game of hockey; he was a trainer and athletic therapist with the Brandon Wheat Kings on two different occasions. He was a goalie and later a goaltending coach with the Brandon University Bobcats. He played pro hockey and coached goaltenders with the Canberra Knights of the Australian Ice Hockey Federation. Harley taught in and later started his own goaltending school, touring across Western Canada and the North Western United States. He was also a therapist and goaltending coach with several Junior A hockey clubs including the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL and Neepawa Natives of the MJHL. Harley was a kind, caring man who did so much for so many young people; anyone who wanted to work on their goaltending or weight training could count on his help.

CHAPMAN: George Walter, beloved husband of the late Isabelle Chapman, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2009. George was born on the farm in Daly Municipality on June 20, 1913 and we truly believe that those strong roots contributed immensely to his long life. Realizing that there were other opportunities than the farm, he ended up in the R.C.A.F. Twice he was summoned to go overseas – Europe and Japan – however, his superiors chose to keep him on Canadian soil. Following the war, he, Isabelle and the young family decided to make their home in Brandon. George chose to become an entrepreneur, running a TV/Radio repair shop and sporting goods store. He enjoyed nothing more than fishing, be it at Clear Lake or Lake William. George is lovingly remembered by his children, Sherrill (Phil), Judy (Peter) and Donald, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, brother Albert and his family, and brother Raymond. A private family graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Pat was the youngest of three sisters and is survived by her eldest sister Florence Lacquement and her nieces Sandra Lacquement (Les), Patti Stouffer (Ted), Linda Lauzé (Michel) and many great nephews, nieces and cousins. Pat will also be greatly missed by her close friends Roberta Rupert, Judy Robinson and Pam Battersby whom she has lived with for the past 23 years. Pat also had many friends and staff from Brandon Community Options and COR Enterprises that will miss her. Patricia worked for many years at Camroc and then later at COR. In Pat’s retirement, she enjoyed her time she spent at Seniors for Seniors in her stitch and chat group, knitting with her friends there. Pat always looked forward to going out with her friends for lunch and shopping and always found enjoyment in being crafty and spending time with animals. A special thanks goes out to Pat’s primary care provider Carol Burney and to the Brandon RHA Home Care program, the Brandon Clinic and pharmacy, all the hospital staff and all of Pat’s staff at 561-16th Street. CHORLEY: It is with great sadness that the family of John Elliott "Specs" Chorley announces his sudden passing on December 5, 2008. Elliott was born September 12,1931 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a youngster he was schooled at Kelvin Collegiate in Winnipeg. He spent summers hauling ice at Grand Beach and delivering papers. His junior hockey career began with the Manitoba Minor Hockey League in 1951. It started with the Glace Bay Miners and spanned over the next 12 years with seasons played in the AHL, WHL and IHL, wrapping up in 1963 with the St. Paul Saints. Elliott acquired the nickname "SPECS" during his hockey career as he could be seen on the ice with his ever-present glasses taped to either side of his head. Following his professional hockey career he went the way of most former hockey players of his era and became a salesman with Kiewel and Molson Breweries. Later, Elliott returned to hockey as a coach of the Brandon Wheat Kings and played "OLD TIMERS" hockey for several years. He was also employed by the Manitoba Liquor Commission, retiring in 1992. Elliott considered himself somewhat of a hobby farmer and maintained a farm south of Brandon with 56 acres of pastureland for his beloved Simmental cattle. "SPECS" was inducted both as a member of the Winnipeg Monarchs into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2001 as an individual. In 2003 he was honored with an induction into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame with the Winnipeg Monarchs. His athletic prowess extended into a love for all sports, namely baseball and curling. He was a hobby train enthusiast, acquiring many a "HO" model train and magazine. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Lynda of 33 years; son Jeffrey (Brenda), daughters Kim Hatch (Craig), Kelly McBride (Mike); grand children Christopher Hatch (Erin), Ashley Hatch, Alex and Laura Chorley and great-grandson, Carson Riley Hatch; brothers Bob (Tina), Alan (Marlene), and sisters, Evelyn Gamble and Betty Dante (Dick); Brother in law, Gary Kidd (Carol), and sister in law Gaylene Johnson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. His parents Stan and Mary Chorley predeceased Elliott. Many thanks go out to the staff of the Brockie Donovan Funeral Home and to the staff and caring volunteers of Central United Church in Brandon. Also to the Brandon Regional Hospital ER staff and EMS services. A very special thanks goes out to Cole Grambo of Killarney, who presided over the service. His daughter Kim and granddaughter Ashley read eulogies. Donation "in memory of Specs Chorley" can be made to the Shamrock Center at P.G. Box 820, Killarney, Manitoba R0K-1G0 or to a charity of your choice.
