FAIRBAIRN: It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Mother, Darlene Fairbairn, who passed away on June 7th, 2008 after a long and courageous struggle with MS. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law Robyn and Rick McGowan and Marni and Travis Loewen. As well as her cherished grandchildren Brielle and Braedyn McGowan, by her brother Lloyd Shelvey and Rev. Steve Wilson, sister Diane Powell, nieces Stacey, Jodi and Nicole Powell, by a large extended family and many friends, and not to forget, her best cat Ruff. Darlene was predeceased by her husband of 32 years Calvin Fairbairn in 2005, her parents Bert and Kay Shelvey, her infant brother Albert Murray and her brothers-in-law Garth Powell and Darrel Forke. Darlene was born September 16th, 1952 in Brandon, MB and grew up on the family farm in the R.M. of Elton. She received her formal education at Mt. Vernon and Elton School where she loved to socialize and met many life long friends, especially Shirley. She later worked at Fedoruks Groceries where she met her lifetime companion. Calvin and Darlene married June 30th, 1973. They continued to live in Brandon where they raised their children Robyn and Marni. Darlene loved being a mother, and enjoyed doing the simple things in life with her husband and daughters. She liked to cheer on Cal's baseball team, play bingo, go fishing, and she welcomed all to her home and greatly enjoyed just hanging around the kitchen table chatting with the girls. Mom was our best friend. Darlene also took great pride in being a grandmother. Her love for Brielle and Braedyn gave her more strength in fighting MS. She loved watching them grow and sharing ice cream cones with them along the way. Darlene was diagnosed with MS about ten years ago. She continued her journey with courage and hope. As her disease progressed, she became more dependent and appreciative of the care she received from her family and her home care workers. Her cheery "I'm fine", encouraged all to reflect positively upon, and to accept life's blessings. A celebration of Darlene's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, June 13th, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. followed by interment in the family plot at Humesville Cemetery. GREEN, Eldin Wayne (December 1949 to October 2006) The family of Eldin Wayne Green wish to express with great sadness, the loss of a fine man, at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB, on October 26, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the young age of 56 years. He was born in Killarney, MB on December 3, 1949, the third child of four to the late Harold and Laura Green of Brandon. Eldin was raised in Wakopa, MB before the family moved to Brandon in 1954. He attended King George Elementary, Earl Haig Jr. High, and Brandon Collegiate Institute, as well as East Kootenay Community College in Cranbrook, B.C. where he achieved Interprovincial Journeyman Status as a Welder Tradesman. Eldin married Patricia Ann Simpson on April 24, 1970 and moved to Red Lake, ON where their first son, Frank, March 1971, and daughter Lori, February 1973, were born. Eldin and his family moved to Douglas, MB that same year. Their third and fourth children were born; John in August 1975 and Daniel in May 1977. During this time, Eldin worked at Behlin-Wickes, Canadian Steel Tank and Brown Steel. The family ventured west to Elkford, B.C. in the spring of 1978 where he found employment at Fording River Coal Mine. Eldin was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, motorcycling, quadding and snowmobiling with his family and friends. His most memorable past times include building a wilderness cabin, restoring a 1975 pick-up into a powerful on/off road vehicle, many bike trips across Canada and the States, visiting Hawaii with his youngest sister, Norma and her family, as well as a trip to Costa Rica with his brother, Glen. Eldin also enjoyed a few fishing trips with his older sister, Dianna and brother Glen, and a fishing trip to northern Alberta with his two sons. He participated in many outdoor adventures with his brother, sisters and his children’s families. Upon taking an early retirement at age 55, he sold his home in Elkford and moved back home to be closer to his brother and sisters, and bought a house in Killarney in September 2005. Eldin was diagnosed with cancer in late January 2006 and fought a good battle until his last day. Eldin lived with no fear of anything or anyone. He was a strong, proud man who could build or repair anything, and in many cases improve the original design. However, with all his strength and determination, he could not repair or improve his cancer. Surviving are his son Frank (Patricia) Green and grandchildren Tia and Kimberly of Hillcrest, AB and Justin and Natashia of Brandon, MB; son John (Stacey) Green and grandchildren Hunter, Hannah and Ryliegh of Smoky Lake, AB and Colten of Cranbrook, B.C. Also surviving are his brother Glen (Lillian) Green; sister Dianna (Larry) Williamson and sister Norma (Richard) Borotsik, all of Brandon, as well as several close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Eldin was predeceased by his father Harold in 1981; mother Laura in 1982, daughter Lori in 1973, son Danny in 1980 and his grandparents on both sides. The funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor John Reaves of Bible Baptist Church officiating. All friends and family are urged to join in this celebration of life. In keeping with Eldin’s wishes, cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest, by special permission, with his son, Daniel Glen, at the Brandon Children’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and gifts, we ask that any donations be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care," or "Cancer Care," 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to any children’s wish foundation in memory of his deceased children. GRIFFIN: It is with great sadness to announce the peaceful passing of Florence Colleen (née Ducharme) surrounded by her family in the early morning of Tuesday March 20, 2007 on the Palliative Care Unit at the Assiniboine Center. Colleen was born on October 10,1943 to Florence Anne and Tony Ducharme in Brandon, MB. She grew up in the south end of Brandon graduating from St. Michael’s Academy. Colleen continued her education and graduated as a Psychiatric Nurse at the Brandon Mental Hospital. After graduating, she married Anthony Hugh Nelson (Tony) Griffin on Nov 26, 1966 at St. George’s Anglican Church in Brandon. Shortly there after, Colleen began her family and was blessed with 4 children; Suesan, Maria, Christopher and Darius. She continued nursing until 1974. In 1974, Colleen pursued a new career in the flower business in partnership with her husband Tony. There were long hours spent at the flower shop where many friends and memories were made. The restaurant business then beckoned and the Yukon Tea Room was established in the fall of 1989. Colleen became famous for her baking and cooking. Some of Colleen’s trademarks were quiche, buns, honey dill sauce, caesar dressing, dainty trays, nanaimo bar and chocolate cake, enjoyed by all. The tearoom was a stepping stone to their next foray into the restaurant business, a family collaboration incorporating Ember’s Restaurant and Griff’s Sports Lounge at the Brandon Rec Center. There were many memorable occasions created at the Embers and Griff’s that her family and her community will remember; such as the Ford World Curling Championship, the Canadian Summer Games 1997, along with many other events. Colleen was fortunate to be able to host 3 of her 4 children’s weddings at the Embers. Late in 1997, her illness forced her into an early retirement. Colleen spent many hours around the pool, visiting with friends and spending time with family. She loved to shop, she loved a good deal and she loved to roll the dice at the casino. The most important thing to Colleen was her family. She had an endless supply of love, patience, understanding and guidance for us all. Colleen is survived and will be sadly missed by her husband Tony; her four children, Suesan (LeMont) Edwards of Edmonton, AB, Maria (Amar) Boudehane, Christopher (Karin) Griffin, and Darius Griffin, all of Brandon, MB; grandchildren, Spencer, Emma, Alexandria and Kiera; brother W.A. (Bill) Ducharme of Winnipeg; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. The memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with The Rt. Rev. Jim Njegovan officiating. The Family would like to thank Dr. N. Butler for his compassion, understanding and assistance. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the outstanding care provided by the nurses and nurse’s aides of the Palliative Care Unit and the respiratory therapists over the last year of Colleen’s life. Donations in memory of Colleen may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Center, Palliative Care Unit, 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or the Manitoba Lung Association, 8-940 Princess Ave, Brandon, MB, R7A 0P6.
