He was predeceased by his parents, James and Irene Rupp of Didsbury. Art was born in Didsbury, AB, on March 20, 1928, where he attended public and high school. After graduating from the University of Alberta in 1951 with a degree in Honours Geology, he joined the staff of Shell Canada. During his career with Shell he worked mainly on the geological exploration of the Foothills and Devonian carbonate trends in Alberta, B.C., and the N.W.T. His time away from Canada included a research project along the Florida Keys and Bahamas, plus a five year period with Shell International where he held the positions of Exploration Co-ordinator for the Middle East in the Hague and Chief Production Geologist and Exploration Liaison Officer for Shell Company of Qatar Ltd. Art had many diverse and varied interests including hiking in the mountains, photography , the study of butterflies and moths, scuba diving, Canadian Philately and travel. Travel took him to seventy different countries, mostly accompanied by Flo, his dearest companion and wife. One sad point of his life was to see first-hand the ever-escalating destruction of our beautiful planet and its wild inhabitants at the hands of mankind. Mrs. Rupp and the family would like to thank the staff of Unit 62 of the Foothills Hospital for the excellent care and support they consistently provided during Art's stay there. Special acknowledgement and thanks are extended specifically to John, PCA on Unit 62, for the kindness and concern he always shared with Art. Deepest thanks are also extended to Dr. Geramia, Hospitalist, Dr. Martin Labrie, Linda Read Paul and Catherine Janzen of the Palliative Care Team for the compassion and care they provided to Art, Flo and the family.
