TATARYN, Sophie (née Kshymensky). It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the loss of our mother, Sophie Tataryn, who passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the age of 71 years. Sophie leaves to mourn her loving sons and daughter: Dan (Brenda), Dave (Val), Rick and Kathy (Chris); grandchildren: James (Jen), Lexi, Brett and Billy; step grandson, Neil; and her brother, Peter Shymensky. Sophie is predeceased by her husband, Wasyl, her parents, Frank and Catherine Kshymensky, her brothers, Mike and Tony, and her sister, Ann Krupa. Sophie was born on September 15, 1935 in Shortdale, MB. Her family lived in Shortdale and Gilbert Plains, MB and moved to Edmore, SK. Sophie met and married Wasyl Tataryn, farming and raising their family in the nearby community of Kuroki, SK, until Wasyl’s untimely death in 1972. It was at this time, Sophie moved to Brandon, MB with her family to be closer to her siblings and parents. Sophie was most content in her home and enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting and sewing. Her main priority in her life was always her children and family, giving of herself and never expecting anything in return. She will be forever missed by her family. Sophie’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon, MB with Fr. Raju Madanu officiating. Family and friends are invited to a viewing between 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. just prior to the service. Interment will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Unit 3, 824 – 18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7.

TENNANT; Mary E. Mary, dearly beloved sister of Jean Pugh, passed away at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg on Saturday, May 5, 2007. Mary was born at Russell, Manitoba on October 23, 1921, the eldest child of James and Ivy Tennant (Ennor). Mary grew up on a farm in the Russell-Binscarth area and went to Woodstock School. After completing her schooling, Mary worked with her parents on the farm. Mary had a love for music and played piano (she acquired her ATCM) and violin. Mary and Jean, her sister, played with others at old time dances, etc. After Mary’s Dad passed away in 1949, the family farm was sold and the family moved to Shoal Lake. They left Shoal Lake after three years and moved to Brandon where Jean’s husband moved to a farm in the Brandon Hills area. Mary adored her nephews and was always there when they needed her. She taught some music lessons and also helped look after her Mother. Her Mother passed away in 1979 and the family moved onto a farm in the Justice area. Mary did some teacher’s aide work and helped on the farm. Her health declined nearly three years ago and Mary spent time in the hospital and at the Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dwight Rutherford of Binscarth United Church officiating. All in attendance will be considered Honorary Pallbearers. A reception will follow at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre – all are welcome to attend. After the reception, the family will proceed to Russell, Manitoba for the interment of Mary’s ashes on her Mother’s grave in the Russell Cemetery. If friends wish, donations, in memory of Mary, may be made to the Canadian Diabetes. Association, 727B-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G7.

TRITES: Ellen Elizabeth, December 27, 1915. It is with deepest sadness we announce the passing of Ellen on April 26, 2007 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon. Ellen is lovingly remembered by her son Cyril Pollitt and daughter-in-law Joyce, grandson David Pollitt and granddaughter-in-law Christine, sister Ethel Bell, sister Bobbie Kozak (John) and a number of nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her mother Ethel, father Francis, brother James, first husband George Pollitt and second husband Rev. Stewart Trites. Ellen was born on a farm near Quill Lake, SK where she was raised and met and married George Pollitt. They moved to Brandon in 1942 where Ellen worked with her mother and father as owners of South End Gardens. Ellen later attended beauty school and opened her own beauty shop. Ellen travelled extensively with George. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 8 years. Ellen also travelled extensively with Stewart to Vancouver Island, Florida and Atlantic Canada. She also enjoyed her cabin at Clear Lake for 33 years. The Ceremony to Celebrate Ellen’s Life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 3881 Park Avenue, on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Stanton and Rev. Orton Anderson officiating. Pallbearers will be Cyril Pollitt, David Pollitt, Frank Bell, Sid Humphries, Bob Shepherd and Dave Bell. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Ellen may be made to a charity of your choice.

THOMPSON: Margaret Lillian Thompson (March 16, 1918 – March 14, 2007). Margaret Thompson (née Oliver) passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Center on Wednesday, March 14, 2007. Margaret was predeceased by her husband James Stuart Thompson in 1970 and by her beloved daughter Beth in September 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Aitchison and her husband Ken; her son James (Jim) and his wife Carole; her two granddaughters Kristen Wheeden and Alison Thompson; her two grandsons Kent Aitchison and Christopher Thompson; and six great grandchildren: David and Matthew Aitchison, Cameron, Zachary, and Brady Wheeden, and Alise Breen. Margaret was born in Rivers and grew up in Shoal Lake. She was an Air Force nurse during the Second World War and later lived in Winnipeg, Brandon, Red Deer, AB, Victoria, BC, and Burnaby BC. She "came home" to Brandon in 2005 and lived her last months cherishing time with people and places she remembered and loved. Margaret was a dynamic woman who was a loyal and loving mother and grandmother, and a friend to all she met. She was interested in people and never failed to recall a friendly face. People may remember when she donated a kidney to her daughter Beth in 1963, when transplant operations were brand new. Many Brandon people rallied to help the family and provide loving support during that difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Brockie-Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, with Rev. Harvey Hurren of Knox United Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery.

TURNER; James Hilton. It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Hilton Turner, late of the city of Brandon, Manitoba, in his 91st year. Hilton leaves his daughter Karen (Wayne) Lyon, of Leduc, AB; Karmen (Jim) Davidson, of Moosomin, SK. He also leaves grandchildren Janelle (Wayne) McGonigal and Dan (Terry) Davidson, of Moosomin, SK and Mark Lyon, of Seoul, South Korea; his great-grandchildren Justiss and Sydney McGonigal, Dawson and Carter Davidson, all of Moosomin, as well as nieces, nephews and other family members. Hilton was born to the late James and Matilda Turner of Carroll, brother of the late Mary Maguire, and the late Johnnie Turner. His loving wife for 53 years, Thelma, predeceased Hilton in 1997. Hilton and family farmed at Carroll until 1965, thereafter living in Brandon. Hilton was well known in the farming community, having sold machinery after leaving the farm. Hilton was a life member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Glenwood No. 6, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite in Brandon. Special thanks to Pat and Jim Halliday, Dr. Van of Moosomin, SK, Dr. Butler and the staff and nurses on the second floor, Assiniboine Centre. Your care and compassion will always be remembered. Thank you also to the staff at Humpty’s and the Management, staff and residents of Riverheights Terrace for your care and companionship over the years. Dad’s life was made so much easier because you all cared. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 339-12th Street, on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Dale Woods officiating. Interment will follow at the Carroll Cemetery. Visitation with the family will take place at the church prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moosomin Union Hospital, Palliative Care, 320 Gertie St., Bag #1, Moosomin, SK, S0G 3N0.

TEMPLE: James "Jim" Ernest Temple, of Fairview Personal Care Home, passed away at his residence on January 20, 2007 at the age of 82. Jim was born at Waskada, Manitoba on September 2, 1924. He grew up on a family farm and attended school in the Waskada/Deloraine area until the age of 19. He then served with the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. After the war, Jim returned home to continue farming for a few years and then moved to Winnipeg where he received a diploma in carpentry. Soon after, he moved to Brandon and worked as a carpenter for Pearson Construction before accepting a position as a building/plumbing inspector with the City of Brandon, and later the Brandon and Area Planning District for more than 30 years. Jim was a member of Branch 247 Royal Canadian Legion in Brandon. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, walking, visiting relatives and travel. Jim is survived by his daughter Gail Florence Robertson, husband Scot, grandchildren Amy, Tiffany, Kale; son Greg James Temple, wife Debbie, grandson Jonathan; nieces Arlee Deschene (Smith) and husband Aaron of Regina and Louise Gibbs (Smith) and husband Mark, daughters Temple and Marin of Calgary. Jim was predeceased by his parents Austin and Stella Temple; wife Kathleen (Dixie) Temple (nee Stone); sister Phyllis Smith (nee Temple) and brother-in-law Ernie Smith. A memorial service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on January 26, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Orton Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. If friends wish, donations, in memory of Jim, may be made to a charity of choice.

TREFFRY; Glenmore Dalton. After a courageous battle with cancer, Glen passed away on September 5, 2008 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon at the age of 72 years. Glen was predeceased by his devoted wife and best friend, Lil, in May of 2005 and by his brother-in-law, lsaak Neufeld, in April of 2008. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Tanis; brothers Bob (Rene) and Doug (Dorothy); sisters-in-law Dot Neufeld, Florence (Henry) Abrahams, Betty Wieler, Jean (Craig) Finnie, brother-in-law Jim (Lil) Wieler; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Glen began his career with MTS in 1955 as an apprentice lineman and retired in 1993 having attained the position of General Manager, South West Area. The highlight of Glen's career was when Lil and Glen spent a total of five years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where Glen worked on loan with Bell Canada International to train Saudi managers to operate Saudi TelCom. We will especially miss Glen's wonderful sense of humor. His passing was a loss but his life was a true gift. The family would like to acknowledge the very special care given to Glen by Dr. Fourie and the staff of the Palliative Care ward at the Assiniboine Centre. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation and interment have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glen’s name to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6.

THIBODEAU (DICKENS): Mary Druscilla "Dru" of Brandon, passed away suddenly at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Druscilla was born on the Clanwilliam homestead on September 24, 1926. She attended school there for 11 years and then moved to Winnipeg where she took a secretarial course. She worked in Winnipeg where she met Edgar Dickens. They were married in Clanwilliam and settled on the farm in Carroll where they raised three children. The family moved to Brandon in 1963. Dru became a realtor and eventually had her own company, Dru’s Realty. She was an avid curler and represented Manitoba in the Silver Broom. Dru loved life and all forms of God’s creations and she had a very giving heart. She was incredibly sociable and loved dancing. She was an active member of Parents Without Partners in its early days and then she started Club 77 (and was its oldest surviving member). One of her greatest passions was matchmaking as evidenced by a multitude of existing partnerships today. She was a person of immense energy and a typical day included her dialysis treatment followed by an evening of dancing! Druscilla is survived by her three children: Priscilla (Wally) Tutkaluke, Edward Thomas "Ted" (Cathy) Dickens, Darryl (Linda) Dickens; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister Eleanor (Albert) Pollen; sister-in-law Isabel Simmons and brother-in-law Thomas Edward Dickens (93 yrs). She was predeceased by her first husband Edgar Dickens; her second husband Joseph Thibodeau; brother George Simmons; mother Violet Simmons and father Hugh Simmons. The Funeral Service will be held at the Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. Interment will follow in the Veterans’ Section at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dru may be made to a charity of choice.

TAYLOR: Ronald Stewart passed away suddenly at The Assiniboine Centre on November 27, 2007. Ronald was born in Flin Flon on June 11, 1951 to Austin & Vivian Taylor. The family later moved to Brandon to make it their new home, where shortly after, brother Garry, was born. Ronald went to school at George Fitton School, Central School and Earl Haig School. He was employed at The Westman Centennial Auditorium and for The City of Brandon in Parks and Recreation. In September 2004, Ronald had a fall, which, after a long recovery, left him on a permanent disability from employment. In March 2005, Fairview Home became his new home until his passing. Ronald was predeceased by his grandparents Felix & Mabel Brown and Ernest & Gladys Taylor and in June 2005, his parents, Austin & Vivian Taylor. Ronald is survived by his brother Garry and sister-in-law Trudy. He is also survived by Uncle Murray & Aunt Jean Taylor, Aunt Joyce McLean and many cousins. The Funeral Service for Ronald was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on December 1, 2007 with interment at The Brandon Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception for family & friends was held at The Pioneer Lounge, Keystone Centre. Officiating the service was Rev. John Nesbitt and Reflections by Claudia Mitchell & Dennis Norrie. Active Pallbearers were Allan Fallis, Curtis McCannell, Mark Fallis, Travis Klassen, Darcy Simard & Lloyd Strong. Honorary Pallbearers were Elwood & Lynn English, Mervin & Lois Campbell, Winnie Black, Alma Yule & Russ & Jean Hawkins. Unable to attend were special family friends Jack & Sylvia Hamilton. Donations in memory of Ronald may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or to the BRHC Foundation, "Palliative Care," 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.

TURNER: Kathleen Blanche Turner (Scott) of Brandon passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on October 26, 2007. Kathleen was born on February 24, 1935 in Brandon. She received her education at David Livingston, Alexander, Earl Oxford and Brandon Collegiate. Kathleen married Grant Turner on March 7, 1953. During her lifetime, she was employed as a clerk for the Brandon Sun and a secretary for Zenith Paving. Kathleen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and she enjoyed shopping and playing Bingo. She is survived by her son Fred Turner (Sylvie); daughter Ella Jane Nelson (John); brothers Ron Scott and Wayne Scott; grandchildren Grant, Tasha and Marilyn Nelson; James and Samantha Turner; special nephew Don Sutherland and other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Kathleen was predeceased by her mother Goldie Mae Scott; father Frederick Scott; seven brothers and five sisters. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on October 29, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. David Cathcart of Knox United Church officiating. Urnbearers were Grant Nelson and James Turner. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kathleen may be made to a charity of choice.

TREBLE: William Bruce ~ November 13, 1918 – April 24, 2009: It is with heavy hearts, but wonderful memories we announce the passing of our beloved father and granddad, William "Bruce" Treble. He will be greatly missed by his son Bill (Sue Moore) Treble, daughter Susan Anthony and her son Craig, who was his pride and joy. Bruce is survived by sisters-in-law Mabel Johnston, Tannas Brown and Dorothy Treble. Uncle Bruce will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Elfarata in 1997; his parents Frank and Isabella Treble; a brother Jack Treble and a sister, Jean Knight. Bruce was born on a farm in Solsgirth, the youngest of three children. He went to school in the Solsgirth area through grade eleven and then took grade twelve in Shoal Lake. He worked in J.H. Cairns store and the post office in Kelloe until June 1941. During this time, he went to the CPR Station in the evenings to study railway work, Morse Code and sending telegrams. He began working for the CPR on June 20, 1941. In July 1942, Bruce joined the Navy and worked as a telegrapher. He served aboard the cruiser Uganda from December 1944 to August 1945. He returned to the CPR on December 16, 1945 and later married Elfarata in 1948. He was a station agent in many small towns in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and as an operator in Brandon until his retirement on November 13, 1983.Bill and Susan have many fond memories of living in the stations and of our summer months at Clear Lake. Dad lived life to the fullest and made the most of each and every day. He was a quiet man…kind and gentle. A generous loyal friend and hard worker who invariably had a positive attitude. We remember him most for his caring and nurturing spirit with his children and cultivation of his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, as well as his love of birds and other wildlife. His prized tomatoes were regarded by his neighbours as the most wondrous of sights. Bruce taught his grandson to appreciate the beautiful small things of life. Craig loved to watch him do special projects and fix things, saying "My grandad can fix anything!" Since retiring from the CPR, he took an avid interest in golf and played in many senior tournaments throughout Manitoba. His enjoyment of helping others showed in many ways with his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. His neighbours appreciated him for his friendship and sense of humour. Dad, you will always have a special place in our hearts. A funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Lawrence McInnes, Brockie Donovan Funeral Celebrant, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G6.
