WOLSKI: Mr. William "Bill" Wolski of Brandon, beloved husband of Nellie, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Bill was born on August 15, 1918 in Oakburn, MB. He grew up in the Basswood district where his parents farmed. Bill met his wife, Nellie, in Winnipeg while he was in the Army. They would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in September. Bill received his education in the Basswood district. He was conscripted into the Army during WWII. At the end of the war, he farmed north of Basswood for 8 years, then worked as a carpenter for numerous construction companies in Brandon. From there, Bill worked for the Federal Government at Rivers Air Force Base as a Civilian Carpenter. When it closed, he worked at the Shilo Base until an on-the-job accident forced him to retire at the age of 58. Bill loved fishing, gardening and in later years, he enjoyed rug-hooking and word-search puzzles. Bill is survived by his wife Nellie; son Don Wolski and wife, Karen; daughter Pat Hillers and partner, Gary Lapinsky; grandchildren Devin Wolski, Melanie Ross and husband Ron, and Vernon Hillers; great-grandchildren Beau Ross, Tucker Ross and Jason Hillers; sisters Sophie Norosky, Rosie Krushelnisky; brother Tom Wolski and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Frances; brothers Joe and Adam; sisters Martha, Ann and Caroline. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill may be made to a charity of choice.

WILSON: Wilfred Elmer, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Ethel by his side, on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the age of 90 years. He was born the 5th child of Robert Nelson and Elizabeth on October 5, 1916 at Glenella, Manitoba. Wilfred received his schooling at Goodland School until he was 10 or 11 years old, at which time, he worked on the farm, hauling grain and helping with seeding and harvest. Attending school in the winter time, Wilfred got his grade 8, then started farming full time. In 1944, Wilfred married Ethel Gardiner of the same district. Together, they had four children: Elmer, Larry, Darryl and Danny, the youngest passing away in infancy. They later adopted Verna and Ron. The family moved to Brandon in 1956 when Wilfred was employed with C.P.R. for a year. He then worked for the City Works Department until he retired, after 25 years’ service, in 1981. After his family, Wilfred’s great love was hunting, a sport he continued until he was 85, when he shot his last "big buck", ending a hunting career which spanned 71 years. Wilfred is survived by Ethel, his wife of 63 years; grandson Danny who was raised like a son and who adored his grandpa, giving him such good care in his later years; son Darryl (Marilyn), Dustin (Tennelle), Faith, Payton, Clayton and Nathan and Christopher (Evanka); daughter Verna (Danny’s mom); son Ron; daughter-in-law Marlane, Corey and Christy (Darren) and Marley; daughter-in-law Fran, Crystal (Bob), Sean and Cailey and Laura. Wilfred is also survived by his brother Cecil (Jean) and sisters Ada, Margaret and Agnes (Lee), brother-in-law Jack (Freda) Gardiner and sisters-in-law Ada and Mildred as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His sons Elmer and Larry, his parents, brothers George and Nelson and sisters Violet, Verena, Helen and an infant sister predeceased Wilfred. A Celebration of Wilfred’s life was held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Pope officiating. A time of fellowship followed and interment took place at the Goodland Cemetery, Glenella. Pallbearers were grandsons, Corey, Dustin and Christopher, nephew Vic Thomson, brother Cecil and brother-in-law Jack Gardiner. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations in Wilfred’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G6.

WALKER: Robert Arnold Walker of Rivers, Manitoba, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on March 3, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Robert is survived by his sister Mary Graham of Sault Ste. Marie, ON; brother George Walker of North Bay, ON and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and parents Mary and Frank. Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rivers on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Rivers Cemetery. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G6.

WALOWETZ: William Murray "Beamer" Walowetz (January 28, 2006 – March 2, 2007). William, beloved son of Kevin and Shannon, was taken peacefully at home in his sleep on Friday, March 2, 2007. A Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Arlene Robertson of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will take place in the Children’s Section at the Brandon Cemetery. A reception to celebrate William’s life will follow at the Sprucewoods Community Hall. Donations in memory of William may be made to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation, 203-37-11th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4J2.

WALL: Walter Stanley Wall (December 16, 1922 – January 20, 2007). It is with deep regret the family of Walter Stanley Wall announces their loss of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Walter passed away on January 20, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Anna (née Roberts), his daughter Darlene McCrae (James) and his son Randall (Allison). He is also mourned by his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved: Tara (Scot) Taylor of Brandon; Toby (Matthew) Kreider of Goshen, Indiana; Nancy (Robyn) Yon of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Hollie (Dustin) Wells of Brandon; Candice McCrae and her fiancée Bart Brown of Brandon; Nigel, Maggie, Marley and Riley Wall of Winnipeg. Great grandchildren are Kieran and Aidan Taylor of Brandon; Jackson and Joshua Yon of Grand Forks; Reid and Lilianna Wells of Brandon. Walter was a family-oriented man, adored his grandchildren, was thankful for the gift of enjoying his six great grandchildren and was pleased to learn of the expected arrival of two more later this year. Also left to mourn are his sister Maud Gould of Brandon and sisters-in-law Frances Milne-McKeown, Brandon; Florence Daniels, Edmonton; Shirley (Walter) Mitchell, Edmonton; and Dorothy (Clay) Elston, Kingston, Ontario; also many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Minnie Wall, and by his brother Ernest and sisters Dorothy, Mary and Violet. Anna and Walter were married in 1943 and would have celebrated 64 years together in March of this year. Walter received his education in the Brandon school system. Prior to enlisting in the armed forces in 1943, he was employed by the CNR Prince Edward Hotel. Later that year he was sent overseas, where he served in the infantry with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Wounded in action in France and flown to England for hospital recovery, he later rejoined his regiment and walked across Holland, Belgium and Germany, where he was deployed at war’s end. On his return to Canada, Walter was re-employed at the Prince Edward Hotel as night auditor. After the sale of the Prince Edward Hotel, he began as ticket clerk for the CPR, again until its closure, when he was employed at the Brandon Mental Hospital as assistant stores manager until his retirement in 1987. During his working years and after retirement Walter and Anna spent many holidays and weekends at the family cottage at Sportsman’s Park, Clear Lake, where he practised his hobby of building and renovating. They also enjoyed tropical cruises and holidays in Hawaii, Spain and Mexico. Walter was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #3 and, despite his illness, was proud to walk up and receive his sixty-year membership pin in the spring of 2006. He attended First Baptist Church, always willing to help with various projects. At one time, he and another volunteer spent days painting the entire floor of the First Baptist Church, where he and Anna were married many years before. Walter was interested in active sports, hunting and fishing. His keenest interest was in keeping and breeding tropical and saltwater fish. He earned many trophies, winning best of show with his talent for aquarium decorating. He was past president of the Brandon Tropical Fish Club. Fanciers with sick fish often called upon Walter for assistance, so much so that amongst the membership he was called the "fish doctor". An avid gardener, he loved to tend the flowers and vegetables in his yard. He was proud to share the "best" tomatoes with family and friends. Walter always had a sincere interest in the underprivileged, particularly children’s causes. He supported and maintained regular contact with a child from El Salvador, from age two to adulthood. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6 or to a charity of choice.

WILLIAMS: Bernard Eldon Keith "Barney" Williams passed away at his residence, Hillcrest Place on Sunday, January 14, 2007. Barney was born in Oak Lake to parents Thomas Edward and Hazel Williams on December 29, 1923. He received his education in Oak Lake and shortly after finishing Grade XII he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force serving overseas. Shortly after returning from overseas, he and his mother moved to Saskatoon to be closer to other family members. It was here he met and married Kathleen Stephens. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, his parents, brother Smith (Dorothy) and brother-in-law Cecil Furtney. Barney is survived by his wife Yvonne; son Ted (Coreen) and their family: son Randy (Jen) and their son Tristyn; son Ryan; daughter Rennie (Rob) Hendry, sister Marguerite Furtney and niece Wendy Furtney. Also surviving is Yvonne’s family Joyce Milne, Joan (Ian Moggach) and their families. Barney enjoyed his fishing and hunting trips with his friends and loved a game of golf. He also took great pleasure in his many canoe trips with the Boy Scouts. He was active in the Boy Scout Movement for over 25 years. Barney was a member of the Oak Lake Legion #079. Prior to retiring, he worked in real estate for over 25 years in Saskatoon. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment will take place in the veterans’ section at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G6 or to a charity of choice.

WHITTINGHAM: John Kelvin James (Kelly) Whittingham of the R.M. of Cornwallis, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on September 21, 2008 at the age of 71 years. Kelly was born on October 14, 1936 at Elgin, Manitoba. He was raised on a small family farm and attended school until Grade 6. He later took his GED and received his Grade 12 Education while working for the Brandon Fire Department. During his lifetime, Kelly worked as a long haul truck driver (driving for Allied Vans & Dindsdale), he sold Watkins products, and he farmed (PMU producer for many years). His final career was with the Brandon Fire Department as a Firefighter. Kelly belonged to many organizations including: Brandon Gymkana, Brandon Light Horse, M.G.R.A., Red Coates and the Queens Cowboys. Horses were his main passion. He could hardly wait each year to attend the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair to showcase his favorite Stallion, Skorflex. He could also be seen on horse back in parades dressed up as the Lone Ranger around Western Manitoba or dressed in his period costume with the Red Coats or Queens Cowboys. He even participated in period costume on horse back in a documentary film for television that was filmed in Saskatchewan. In his early years, he was very interested in endurance riding and participated in many competitions on horse back to raise money. Kelly was very proud to be a Firefighter with the Brandon Fire Department from October 8, 1963 until his retirement on October 31, 1994. During his time as a Firefighter, he worked his way through the ranks to become a Lieutenant. During his career with the Fire hall, he received the Governor General's Meritorious Service Award for 20 years of dedicated service, as well as his 25 year Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs Exemplary Service medal, followed by his 30 year service bar. Kelly is survived by his children: son, John "Wayne" Whittingham (wife Judy), daughter, Victoria Elizabeth "Vicky" Wilson (husband Ron), son, Harold Kelvin Whittingham (friend Christine Hearn); grandchildren: Lorraine Wilson, Steven Wilson, Chad Whittingham and Clint Whittingham; sisters, Kathy McKay and Marion Yates; and brother, Brian Whittingham. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Elizabeth "Betty" Whittingham and brother, John Robert "Bob" Whittingham. A time of visitation will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332-8th Street, on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiating. The Honor Guard, Active and Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Brandon Fire Department. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Kelly may be made to the Brandon Firefighters Charity Fund, #1 Fire Hall, 637 Princess Avenue, Brandon, MB R7A 0P2, Attention: Kevin Groff.

WINNING: Irene Winning passed away at her residence at Fairview Home on August 7, 2008 at the age of 95 years. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Brandon Cemetery on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The family gratefully declines flowers. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 354 Tenth Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G1.

WAINWRIGHT: Mr. David Brian Wainwright, beloved husband of Carita, of Brandon passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the age of 56 years. Dave grew up in Brandon as the youngest of four children to Muriel and Harold Wainwright. Growing up he enjoyed playing cards, road hockey, baseball and many other sports. Dave also enjoyed camping with his family. He moved to Banff and then on to Calgary where he met his wife Carita, with whom he shared nearly 25 years of marriage. Dave and Carita moved to Brandon in 1984 with their two children. Dave was a great man with a big heart whose greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his famly and friends. Dave attended school at George Fitton, Harrison High and then McLaren High School. Dave enjoyed a successful career with Manitoba Hydro. Dave enjoyed golf and was a member of the Glen Lea Golf Course. Dave also enjoyed Wheat Kings Hockey Games and any, and all, actives involving his grandchildren. Dave is survived by his loving wife Carita; his children Joanne (John) and Trent (Melissa); his parents Muriel and Harold Wainwright; his brother Rick (Joan); his sister Cheryl (Don); sister-in-law Betty; grandchildren Marcus, Tyra, Ryan, Jack, Dane and Anthony; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James Wainwright. A service of remembrance was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Donations in memory of Dave may be made the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, "Palliative Care Services" 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.

WOODFIELD: In memory of Robert Harold Woodfield "Woody" of Forrest, MB who passed away June 29th, 2008 at his home. Woody was born January 17th, 1945 in Winnipeg, MB and moved to Brandon with his family in his early teens. He started and operated Woody’s Mobile Steam Cleaning in 1970 and continued to run until 2005. A long-standing member of the Brandon Wildlife Association, he served for numerous years as chairman for both the membership committee and, as most notably fisheries chairman. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping, and amateur astronomy. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, sons Robert(Robin), and Bradley(Tania); grandchildren Zachary, Cole, Marshall, Christopher, Rae-Lynn, and Joseph; brothers Fred (Ellen) Woodfield, Ron (Brucein) Woodfield; sisters Lynn(Gene) Ash, MaryLou Woodfield and families. A memorial service will be held Monday July 7th, 2008 at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, at 11:00 a.m. with Lawrence McInnes as Funeral Celebrant. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 3-824 18th St., Brandon, Mb, R7A 5B7.
