Sr. Edwina Hepp OSE

December 2, 1924 - May 13, 2013

It pleased God to call our dear sister Edwina Hepp to be welcomed into eternal life on May 13, 2013. Elizabeth Christine was born on Dec. 2, 1924 to Julia (Schneider) and Anton Hepp in their home near Bruno. Growing up in a family of 13 on the family farm meant that Elizabeth learned to work hard from an early age. She attended Sunlight country School and at 17 years of age entered the Convent of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth in Humboldt, SK receiving the name Sr. Edwina at the time of her acceptance to the Novitiate. She pronounced her temporary vows in May of 1944, final vows in 1947 and celebrated her 65th anniversary of religious profession 2009. In the community Sr. Edwina was a willing helper wherever she was needed but worked mostly in the kitchens of the various places the Sisters served. In 1969, after obtaining her grade X she received her certification in commercial cooking from SIAST in Saskatoon. Even in retirement at the Motherhouse, Sr. Edwina found many tasks where she could still help. She described herself as enjoying all her years of work “I did all for the honour and glory of God”. Her favourite pastime was “visiting” family and friends and the Sisters in the infirmary. She lived with joy, gratitude and enthusiasm for life, warming all by her beautiful smile. In the last few years, Sr. Edwina was cared for by the Sisters of St. Joseph and the staff at St. Joseph Home in Saskatoon. Sr. Edwina was predeceased by her parents Julia and Anton Hepp; her sisters Eva in childhood, Sr. Laurentia Hepp OSE, Mary Kraus, Juliana Froess and Veronica Meszaros; her brothers Frank, George and Tony; her brothers-in-law John Kraus, Joseph Froess, Jim Meszaros and Joe Verlangen. She has left to mourn her Sisters in Community the Sisters of St. Elizabeth; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Rosella Verlangen, Sylvia and Albert Kennedy, Rita and Joe Whelan; her sisters-in-law: Sylvia Hepp, Pauline Hepp and Carol Hepp; and by numerous nieces and nephews. A Prayer Service took place on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Concelebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky OSB, Fr. Daniel Muyres OSB, Fr. Lawrence Demong OSB, Fr. Greg Roth and Fr. Ephriam Mensah. Both services were held from St. Augustine R.C. Church Humboldt, SK. Interment followed at the Sisters of St. Elizabeth Cemetery Humboldt. Memorial donations in Sr. Edwina’s memory may be directed to Sisters of St. Elizabeth Health Care Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to MALINOSKI & DANYLUIK FUNERAL HOME Humboldt 306-682-1622

Mary Cadman

December 25, 1948 - October 4, 2012

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary (Jane) Cadman, née Schreiner on October 4, 2012 at Grand Forks, B.C. Mary was born on Dec 25, 1948 in Humboldt, Sk, third daughter to Lawrence and Hedwig Schreiner. She was raised on the family farm, attending elementary school at Burton Lake School and high school at Humboldt Collegiate Institute. Mary attended university in Regina for one year but circumstances did not allow completion. It was to her regret that Mary did not achieve a university degree but that did not stop her from achieving success in her chosen career in Information Systems. Starting out as an analyst assistant in data processing, she completed her career in Information Systems as an Applications Development Manager for a resource company. Mary and Robert married in 1991. After surviving treatment for breast cancer very shortly after their marriage, they sought a quieter life style away from the city of Calgary and bought an acreage near Carbon, AB where they resided for 14 years. Mary was much involved in the community, devoting thousands of hours to the preservation of one of the few remnants of Carbon’s history, the Farmers’ Exchange building. Mary and Robert retired to Grand Forks from Calgary in 2007 and Mary very much enjoyed her time here. She became actively involved in the Grand Forks Guild Connection, the Sunshine Quilters, the Boundary Spinners & Weavers, and the Focus on Fibre Association. Mary had a great love for the arts, performing, visual and literary. She loved to create things, particularly in fibre. Mary was an adventurous quilter, knitter, weaver, rug hooker, spinner – to her chagrin she left with many fibres yet unexplored. She discovered weaving and spinning since she came to Grand Forks and enjoyed them enormously. Mary treasured her time with her grandchildren. In the summers Mary and Bob spent time at the lake, camping, cooking and exploring British Columbia with her grandsons. Mary looked forward to every visit and phone call – her time spent with her granddaughters and grandsons was precious. All were outfitted in Mary’s hand-made garments and quilts. Mary enjoyed travel but travelled primarily in North America. In 2007, she happily achieved a goal of seeing Australia. She enjoyed visits to see family and friends in the Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Mary jumped in with both feet, pursuing things passionately and optimistically. She was always sure it could be done in less time and with less effort than everyone else thought so she generally made it happen! She volunteered at many things over the years. Her most passionate volunteer project was working on the restoration of the Farmers’ Exchange Building in Carbon, AB. Things that shaped Mary include her special birthday, growing up on a farm, attending a one room school, anyone who said there was something she could not do, being one of six daughters, her experience with cancer, and those she met because of it. Mary leaves behind her husband of twenty years, Robert Cadman of Grand Forks; daughter Tanya Krueger (Brian Asmundson) of Yellowknife, NT; grandsons Roman and Carson Asmundson; son Robert Kossick (Jacqueline) of Edmonton, AB; granddaughters Danaea and Cayley Kossick; step-sons John (Amy) Cadman of Calgary, AB, and Michael (Nancy) Cadman of Canmore, AB; grandson Olin Cadman, sisters Annette (Bill) Krayetski of Prince Albert, SK, Ayesha (Didier Petrus) Schreiner of Montreal, SK, Eileen Woodham of Humboldt, SK, Donna Schreiner of Regina, SK; and ten nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Hedwig (Kloppenburg) Schreiner, sister Lorraine Hartmann, and brother- in-law Richard Woodham. A graveside service for Mary will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, Humboldt. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Bella Vista Inn. Local arrangements entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt (306-682-1622).

Ann Stroeder

January 9, 1922 - May 8, 2013

A grand lady has left this world, showing strength, dignity, and a positive demeanour till the very end. Ann was born in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan and worked in Fort San, SK and Tranquille, BC before settling back in Lake Lenore with Ed to raise their family. In 1966 they moved to Esterhazy where Ann managed the Sears catalogue office until her retirement. Shortly after that she relocated back to Humboldt and did a good deal of the traveling she'd always dreamed of, including trips to Europe, Israel, and Australia. In 1990 Ann made her home in Edmonton. Living in her own house, she was an avid gardener who made her home a frequent destination for family and friends, and her yard a haven for countless birds. A voracious reader who completed crossword puzzles from start to finish without pause, Ann was always interested in and informed about the world around her. Music was one of her greatest pleasures and her home was often filled with sounds of operas, symphonies, and favorite singers. Predeceased by her husband, Ed (1988), daughters JoAnn (2006) and Kathy (2011), Ann will be deeply missed by her sons Ed (Nora) and Tim (Adele), and her daughter, Clarice (John). Her grandchildren were a source of joy and they will always be grateful for her love, wisdom, and sense of humor. Heartfelt thanks go to all the people who made the Mel Miller Hospice at the Edmonton General a place for Ann to 'finish well'. Donations in Ann's memory may be made to the Edmonton General Hospital Palliative Unit 9Y, 11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5K 0L4. A traditional Roman Catholic St. Pius X Requiem Mass took place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Highway #5 East, Humboldt, SK 306-682-1622

Harry Stadnyk

June 5, 1931 - May 4, 2013

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our Husband, Dad and Gedo, Harry Stadnyk, age 81 years of Humboldt, on May 4, 2013, at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. Harry was born on June 5, 1931, to Fred and Alice Stadnyk on the family farm in the Carmel area. He attended Mount Carmel School and then began working on the farm with his dad. For a few years, Harry would find work out of province during the winter months. On July 30, 1960, he married Helen Harasymchuk of Smuts, SK, and they took over the mixed farming operation from his parents. They raised four children and taught them to be hard workers with good strong family values. Harry loved the farming lifestyle, socializing with family and friends with many occasions being celebrated at their farm. Harry loved to dance in his younger days. He was the spare bus driver and then took over the regular route for a number of years. Harry and Helen were faithful members of Holy Trinity Bruno Farms U.C. Church and then the All Saints U.C. Church and St. Augustine R.C. Church in Humboldt once they had moved to town. Above all, family meant everything to Harry. He enjoyed playing checkers, cribbage and Kaiser with his kids and grandchildren. Harry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Helen; their four children and 10 grandchildren: Sandra (Pat) Meldrum of Saskatoon and children Mitchell and Jill; Karen Stadnyk (fiancé Michael) of Saskatoon and her children Brennan, Josie, Molly and Cole Prokopchuk; Jim (Debra) Stadnyk of Saskatoon and children Justin and Carter; and Bradley (Paula) Stadnyk of Okotoks, AB, and children Joshua and Samuel; three sisters and two brothers: Pauline (Lawrence) Halowski, Sr. Yvonne “Jean” Stadnyk, Steve (Lillian) Stadnyk, Elsie (Joe) Diakow and Dr. Irwin (Barb) Stadnyk; two sisters-in-law, Victoria Stadnyk and Helen Stadnyk; two brothers-in-law, Don Hurst and Julian Warawa; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Harry will join in eternal peace with his parents, Fred and Alice (nee Thoms) Stadnyk; four brothers: Michael (Erlene), Roman, John, Peter; and four sisters: Anne (John) Zmud, Frances (Stan) Hachkowski, Marion Hurst, and Sally Warawa.
