West, Roma,
Dated: 08/07/2004
Regina, SK
WEST - Roma Francis (nee Creswell / Cram) August 9, 1915 to August 5, 2004. Predeceased by her husband, of 55 years Horace Gordon (Westy) West, first born son John Gordon (Mary-Ann). Survived by son Michael (Mick) (Maggie) West, grandchildren James (Dawn), Moose Jaw, and Jason, Regina, numerous nieces and nephews. Roma was the only child of Ivy and John Cresswell (Regina) and after John's death adopted by Ivy's second husband John Cram, and a child of the depression. Roma met her husband to be at a Christmas party in 1934. When war was about to be declared in late August of 1939, Roma proposed to Westy, and lent him enough money to buy a ring, a licence, and she became Regina's First War Bride The Morning Leader September 5, 1939. Westy shipped off to Victoria days later as he was a trained member of the R.C.N.V.R. and Roma followed him to the coast the following spring, arriving in time to see her new husband transferred to the East coast and convoy duty. They remained separated by the whole country for the better part of the war years. Settled again in Regina, and purchased West's Studio shortly after from Westy's brother Wilf. Roma and Westy worked the photo business until they retired in 1972. They enjoyed the business, the many customer/friends and each other during their life of 24/7 together. After retirement they continued to enjoy the cottage at Buena Vista, and friends and neighbours in River Heights. After her husband's passing, Roma moved to a condo in south Regina, made new friends, retained old ones, and baked her own bread until three weeks ago. An active long life, a loving family, dear old and new friends, what more can a person ask? Thanks God. Many thanks to the staff of the Pasqua (Grey Nuns) hospital ward 4B and ICU, whose care and compassion had made a difficult journey more bearable for Roma and family. A Celebration of Roma's life will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue with Rev. Lori Erhardt officiating. Hone, Janet,
Dated: 08/10/2004
JANET HONE October 11, 1948 August 5, 2004 - Jan died peacefully at home in Regina on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the age of 55. She died as she wished, pain free and at home with her family around her. In her last months she shared her insights into life and relationships with all those who helped care for her. We have all been blessed by her friendship, honesty, courage, intelligence and quirky sense of humour. Jan was an active and passionate devotee of living life in the first person. If she believed in a cause, she put her heart, hands and voice to work for it, and inspired others to do the same. She sat on committees, organized demonstrations and phoned city councillors: she took responsibility and she got things done. Her long and joyful career at Regina Public Library saw her share of talents with almost every unit in the library at one time or another, including Central Children's and the Central Reference Desk, but she always seemed to be drawn back to the cheerful pandemonium and strong community roots of the branch libraries. A deep love and respect for the creative process ran strong in Jan's blood. She painted, drew, made pottery and puppets, created paper mache
