Crabtree, Trudy
Dated: 08/27/2005
CRABTREE - Dr. Gertrude Sharon It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Gertrude (Trudy) Sharon Crabtree on Thursday, August 25, 2005 in Calgary, Alberta, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Trudy was born on August 6th, 1952 at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan. She attended elementary school at Davin School, high school at Central Collegiate, and university first at the University of Regina and then at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan Medical School (where she both studied hard and loved to play on the women's basketball team) in 1977, and the following year completed her internship at St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon. Trudy married Garnet Holizki on May 5th, 1978 and moved to Calgary in June of that year, where she began her Residency in Pathology at the Foothills Hospital. Upon successful completion of that program, Trudy began a year-long Post-Graduate Fellowship at Stanford University in California before returning to practice Pathology at the General Hospital, the Peter Lougheed Hospital, and most recently at the Rockyview Hospital. Trudy was active in her church, the Church of the Good Shepherd, for many years. She taught Sunday school, coordinated annual fundraising drives for the PWRDF (Primate's World Relief and Development Fund), and was a member of the committee responsible for selecting a new priest after the retirement of Rev. R. Brassell. While Trudy's passion was the practice of medicine and anatomic pathology in particular, her great joy in life was her family. She loved to relax at the cottage at Buena Vista Beach in Saskatchewan, which she visited every year of her life but the last, accompanied by children, cousins, parents, and friends, to swim, water-ski, and most importantly work on her tan. She actively participated in her children's education and during their public school years would delight their classes with presentations on anatomy. A thank-you poster from one Grade Three class was proudly displayed in her office (Dear Dr. Crabtree: Thank you for showing us the brain.). Passing on her values and sense of justice to her children was her proudest achievement. Her latest interest was the discovery of gardening, and she proudly spent time in her garden working amongst all her beautiful flowers. Trudy is survived by her husband Garnet Holizki, daughter Alexis, and son Spencer of Calgary, and by her mother Elizabeth (Betty) Crabtree of Regina, brother Harry (Shivon) Crabtree, nephew Jack, and niece Catherine of Calgary, sisters-in-law Theresa (Terri) of Vancouver and Lois Edgar and nephew Cameron of Victoria, father-In-law Frank Holizki of Saskatoon, Aunt Bette and Uncle Doug Catling of Regina Beach, and numerous relatives in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She is predeceased by her sister Maureen and her father John (Jack) Crabtree. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Anglican Church 3337 15 Avenue, The Reverends Dunstan Pasterfield and Claude Schroeder presiding. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park in Regina. Special thanks to Dr. P. Ghatage, the nurses and staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the Foothills Hospital Unit 42B, and the Sarcee Hospice nurses and staff. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 HERITAGE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES Heritage Funeral Home Telephone 299-0100 SPEERS FUNERAL CHAPEL Telephone 522-3232

Craig, James Lewis
Dated: 08/27/2005
CRAIG, JAMES LEWIS - passed away on June 13 2005 in Moosomin Union Hospital. He was born April 27, 1961 with Muscular Dystrophy, the youngest and only son of Evelyn and Lewis, originally from Fleming. He never let MD stop him from doing what he really wanted to do in his life. He preferred to try everything and see. Most times he succeeded. He had a normal farmer's son life on the farm. He shot gophers, went skidooing with the dog and drove the tractor for his father. He graduated grade 12 from McNaughton High School and went to university for one year. The one was enough though, he graduated later from Moose Jaw SIAST with a Diploma in Accounting. He had several temporary jobs until he started work for C0-operators insurance head office in Regina. He worked for them for 8 years. In 1995 they moved their head office down east and James was laid-off. At that time he (and his plants) moved to Rocanville to live with his sister Karen. He took over the gardening and looking after the house. He also started making miniature furniture from scratch, on a 1" scale. They are correct to the last detail. James also loved animals. Besides the usual animals found on a farm when he was younger, he fostered a baby black bird one summer in 1996, complete with two hour worm feedings. By the time the bird was full grown, it would sit on the microwave and talk to James as he cooked. It was also trained to take baths in the kitchen sink. When fall came "Birdie" flew south. James then decided he needed a cat. One cat turned into four. They were James's pets. One shook her paw for treats and one brought him all the mice and birds she could find. The boys just looked loveable. The last few years were devoted to the computer age. Once the computer was purchased, James spent most of his time on the machine. He scanned all the family pictures and made a movie for the family. He also loved all card games, computer games, and anything in between. James liked people. People and children also liked James. He had a well developed sense of humor that could make people roll off there chairs. He liked to tease kids and they loved him for it. He had a few adopted nieces and nephews. If there was anything he could do for a friend, he would do it. James lived life to its fullest. He did what he wanted when he wanted. He loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Pre-deceasing James were his parents Lewis and Evelyn. His aunts and uncles Art (Helen) of Delta BC, Allison of Moosomin, Martha (Jack) Arnott of Ceylon SK, Mary (Clem) Battye of Penticton BC, Lorence, Secord and Chester Sheane and Ralph McMullen. James leaves to mourn his sisters, Marianne Orr (Richard Kulman) of Regina SK, Brenda Weis (Eric) of Surrey BC, Karen Craig of Rocanville SK, two nephews and one niece, Darrell Orr (Pat) of Regina SK, Brent Orr Of Regina SK and Pamela Weis of England. Two great nieces and one great nephew, Mitchell, Catherine and Shelby all of Regina SK. Aunts, Viola (Roy) McTavish of Moosomin SK, Theresa (Ralph) McMullen of Moosomin SK, Carolyn (Harry) Paskell of Hudson Bay SK, Dorothy (Secord) Sheane of Fairlight SK, Iris (Allison) Craig of Lloydminster of SK, Glorya (Lorence) Irwin of Moosomin SK, Violet (Chester) Sheane of Winnipeg MB, and one uncle, Clifford (Elanor) Sheane of Moosomin SK. Pall bearers were Brian McTavish, Gary McMullen, Harold Sheane, Jeff Roy, Dale Woods and Todd Hagerman. The funeral was held at Carscadden Funeral Chapel on June 18 2005 with Reverend Catherine Dorcas officiating and Organist Ivy Veysey. Interment was made at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Following interment, lunch was provided by the Baptist Ladies.
