HENDER - Lionel E. (Hendy) passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 6, 2006. Lionel was born in Moose Jaw, SK on September 25, 1927. Predeceased by his parents, Ann and Harry; and his brother, Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doreen; two daughters, Barbara (Joe) Schmitz, Donna Lynn Hender (Tony Neal); son, Greg (Cheryl) Hender; four grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Schmitz, Kristin Schmitz, Jared and Vanessa Hender. At Lionel's request, there will be no funeral service. A Private Family interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw, SK. HORNE, ZELMA

ZELMA HORNE (1921 - 2006) Zelma Horne passed away peacefully in Moose Jaw on July 1, 2006. She is survived by her son Gerald Horne of Surrey, BC (married to Patti Scott). Zelma was predeceased by husband Raymond Horne in 2005. Born Zelma Lazurca near Zehner, Saskatchewan on December 23, 1921, she grew up on a farm near Kayville, Saskatchewan. Zelma was predeceased by her father Harry in 1957, mother Susan in 1997, and brother George in 1999. She is survived by sisters Betty (Stark) and Maggie (Miller) of Abbotsford, BC, Georgina (Swanson) of Swift Current and Judy (Fraser) of Regina, and by brothers Ted of Hearne, SK and Henry of Regina. Zelma worked at Regina Industries during World War II, and as a secretary and bookkeeper for several Regina businesses before marrying Raymond Horne in 1951. They lived in Moose Jaw and in Regina before settling in Swift Current in 1956, where Ray was fire chief. In 1982 Zelma and Ray returned to Moose Jaw. During her years in Swift Current, Zelma worked parttime and did community volunteer work. She was an avid gardener and reader, and was an accomplished craftsperson, specializing in leather craft, ceramics, and sewing. She was also a wonderful cook and homemaker. Zelma loved the out-of-doors, and especially enjoyed the birds and wildlife which came through her yard on Valleyview Drive in Moose Jaw. A private family ceremony was held in Moose Jaw. JOHNSON, EDNA W.

EDNA W. JOHNSON - July 13,1919 to August 1, 2006 It is with great sadness that the family of Edna Johnson announce her passing after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her parents, Colin Emerson and Alice Agnes Carruthers; her husband, John Octavius Johnson and her daughter Molly Ann Johnson. Educated at Moose Jaw Normal School, Edna began teaching at age 18 and until her retirement in 1984, helped many children learn and graduate in schools in Ontario and Saskatchewan. Most notably, Hudson Bay Composite High School where she taught for over 30 years until her retirement. After she retired she was active as Proctor for governmental exams and active in her community. She loved gardening, reading and quilting. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Joan (James) Solomon, grandchildren: Rebecca (Jerry) Merk; Gillian Solomon; Jonathan Solomon; Sarah (Chris) Hammann and six greatgrandchildren: Nicholas, Timothy, Daniel, Katherine, Michael and Damion. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at the Hudson Bay Union Hospital and The Carrot River Health Center for their care and compassion during our Mother's illness. At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. KELLS, RICHARD ALBERT

KELLS - Richard Albert Kells, late of Regina, formerly of Stoughton, Saskatchewan, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the age of 94. He is survived by his loving wife Alma of 60 years and his two sons Wayne (Gail) of Salmon Arm and Wesley (Lorna) of Red Deer and four grandchildren, Andrew (Mary), Alison (Darcy), Andrea, Julie; and one greatgrandchild, Nolan. Albert was predeceased by his parents Richard and Emma; his two sisters Olive Thornton and Muriel McLeod; and his three brothers, Gordon, Lawrence, and Mervin. Albert was born on August 22, 1911 and was raised at Heward and spent his working life farming at Stoughton, Saskatchewan. He retired from mixed farming in 1965 and grain farming in 1972. Using hired farm help, he was also able to adjust crops for PFAA and adjust for Municipal Hail Insurance for 28 seasons, until retiring in 1979. He enjoyed the travel and meeting farmers very much. He also served a few years on the Stoughton town council. Albert enjoyed his youth experiences playing baseball, playing goal in hockey, skipping a curling rink, and hours of billiards right up to age 90. He enjoyed socializing over coffee in the town restaurants and the Golden Mile Plaza. In 1965 the family moved to Regina. Albert assisted Alma deliver Meals on Wheels for many years. In 1989 they moved into Rainbow Towers and then in 1999 they moved into Marian Chateau. In need of extra care for Alma, they moved into a private nursing home in 2002. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. If desired, gifts of remembrance may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 2360 ~ 2nd Avenue, Regina S4R 1A6 or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, #301-2550 ~ 12th Avenue, Regina S4P 3X1.

CECIL CARMAN COOKE April 7, 1917 - November 2, 2006 Carman is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; his sister Verna Cantelon and brother John, Saskatoon; his brother Bill (Jean), Lethbridge; and children: Diane Wilson, Saskatoon, and son Geoff; Dan (Dori), Middle Lake, and family Anna (Darin), Will, and Mark; Heather (Gil) Cooke-Penner, Kelowna, and family Aaron (Susie), Tricia (Doug), Patrick (Karin); Geoff (Deb), Saskatoon, and family Ben (Kara), Sarah and great-grandson Joseph, and Tom (Jen); Pixie (Graham) Hoffman, Regina, and family Erika (Nathan) and great-granddaughter Kelaiah, Dan (Quinn) and Heidi (fiance C. J.); family friend Tony (Linda) Lee of Richmond; nieces Karen Cummings, Calgary, Deirdre (Mike) Franklin, Lafayette, Colorado, Lee (Jack) Gibson, Kelowna; and many other nephews and nieces. A veteran of World War II, Carman returned from overseas service, graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in agriculture (l949) and worked as an agrologist in Estevan and Regina for thirty years. Throughout his life, Carman felt a deep pride in the people and Province of Saskatchewan. He especially enjoyed working with rural communities to establish 4-H programs and student exchanges overseas. Carman knew many people, particularly in south-eastern Saskatchewan, and had a remarkable memory for their individual histories and family connections. He served, for a number of years, on the senate of the University of Saskatchewan. A naturally grateful person, Carman was a willing volunteer. After retiring in Regina(1979) he worked for two years as a full-time volunteer with Christ Lutheran Church where he played an active role assisting families from Vietnam to become familiar with life in Canada. He also served at the Marion Centre, the Wesley Wheelers, and received recognition for 25 years of volunteer service at the Regina Wascana Hospital. His life was centered in his family who will deeply miss his entertaining humour, and the pleasure of his company. Carman had an enjoyable retirement traveling with Toughie around the country in their camper, and shortening their winters in Hawaii or Victoria. He particularly enjoyed the many Christmases in Star City organizing the annual family cribbage tournament. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Stefiuk, all the wonderful people with Palliative Care, and the helpful, supporting staff and residents at the Palisades. A heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses of RUH, City, and St. Paul's for their many skills in helping Carman's quality of life over the past four months. The family would also like to express their thanks to friends for their many prayers and kind wishes. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Hall at Zion Lutheran Church, Tuesday November 7 at 2:00 p.m. Parking is available at McKague's Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
