Mary was predeceased by her husband Walter (Duke) in 1976. VERA STIMPSON Vera Stimpson of Shoal Lake passed away peacefully at her home on December 8, 2001. Vera was born
in Birtle, MB, later moving with the family to Shoal Lake. Moving to Winnipeg, Vera worked at Eaton's for many years, returning to Shoal Lake to care for her mom and dad. Vera was actively involved in the community, working at the Bakery and later at the Golf Course Clubhouse. She was a member of the Westminster United Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Vera loved animals and was rarely seen without one of her dog(s) by her side. Vera will be missed by many family and friends. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 12. ALFRED ORVAL TAPLIN 1925 - 2001 Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Sunday, December 9, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, Stonewall, Alfred Orval (Orv) passed away at the age of 76 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Shirley (nee Fright); daughter Merle; granddaughters, Tammy (Rob) Boonstra, Kimberley Olson (Wade); his beloved great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Chantal. He will also be remembered by his five brothers, Ray (Elza), Don (Muriel), Fred (Elaine), Lloyd (Audrey), Ken (Sharon); and his two brothers-in-law, Don (Jean), Den (Pat); numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Orv was predeceased by daughter Marlene and son-in-law Terry Olson; his parents, Cerce and Eva Taplin; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Grace Fright; and sister-in-law Charlotte Fright. on June 18, 1925 on the family farm at Argyle where he grew up. He attended school at Grassmere and Stonewall. He joined the Navy at the age of 18 and served during the Second World War overseas. Upon return from the war, he worked for various families in the district. He also worked for the CN in Atikokan, ON and for many years worked for Argyle Transfer. In 1950, Orv purchased his first farm in the Argyle district. In 1951 he married Shirley and they resided there until their move to the original family farm in 1976. He drove the school bus for the Interlake School Division for 20 years until his retirement in 2001. Throughout the years Orv enjoyed participating in curling, pool, card games and was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 222. The most fulfilling moments of his life were spent with his family and working on his farm. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Wong and his assistant Kathy at the St. Boniface Hospital. A very special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the Dr. Evelyn Memorial Hospital, for their care and support shown to Orv and to his family during his illness. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Bev Ward will officiate, with a private family interment to follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ray Taplin, Don Taplin, Fred Taplin, Lloyd Taplin, Ken Taplin and Rob Boonstra. Family and friends are to be considered honorary pallbearers. HARRY TURNEY Sunday December 3, 1916 - Tuesday December 11, 2001 Dad passed away at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side. Dad leaves to cherish his memory five children, Ray (Ruth), Bill (Phylis, Don (Susan), Renette (Pat), Susan (Darcy); 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Sam and sister Trudy of Kelowna, BC. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill, Bob and Kelly. Dad was employed with the T. Eaton Co. mail order for 37 years, and also painted evenings and weekends. Dad was a very dedicated hard worker. He remained with Eatons until the closing of the mail order at which time he went to work for Winnipeg School Division #1, until his retirement. Dad had a long and full life. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and long walks until he was sticken with Alzheimer's. Even through his illness, Dad enjoyed visiting with family. He especially liked trips to Lockport, and the annual family picnic at Bird's Hill Park. Dad was a very special, loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness and gentle manner will never be forgotten. According to Dad's wishes cremation has taken place. RADAMES G. (RAD) VIRTICH (1926 - 2001) It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved husband, Radames on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Victoria General Hospital. FREDERICK "TED" ROBERT WEEDMARK SR Ted passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. He was formerly of Dominion City, MB. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Garnet (Adele), Frederick Jr. (Eleanor), Rosemary (Bill Wnuk), William, Donald, Franklin (Adeline), Allen (Jo-anne), Bernice McKnight (Reg), Richard, Cindy (Len Jamieson); sister Myrtle Schwabe; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. D. JEAN WINCHAR (nee CLAY) Suddenly, at her home, on Friday, December 7, 2001, our Mother was called to take her rightful place in Heaven with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children and their spouses, Judy and Pat Unrau, Craig and Leslie Winchar, Karen and Bob Alliban of Calgary, and Randy and Lorraine Winchar; and their father Andrew Winchar. Grandchildren, Heather, Jennifer, Matthew, Andrea, Janeen, Kelcey and Morgan; great-grandchild, Marcus Winchar; sister Margaret (Jim) Bradley; brother Ben (Joan) of Vancouver, BC; and many nieces and nephews and other family members. on October 14, 1931 to Frank and Mary Clay. She grew up to be an extremely family oriented person who spent most of her time raising her children. As her children grew older, Mom branched out and started a kindergarten in her home. Later in life, Mother spent much time as a volunteer with the Age and Opportunity Centre. She also acted as a volunteer counsellor for the "Older Victims Service Unit", and spent a number of years in square dancing, and playing bridge, but her prime concern was always her family, especially the little ones. Always there for birthdays, band concerts and graduations, always there to babysit when needed. Mom was much loved and appreciated not just by family but by all who knew her. She will be sorely missed. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 13 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue. AIME A. BAERT 1932 - 2002 Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, with the loving support of family, Aime passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2002, at the age of 69. He was a loving husband of over 48 years to Joyce, devoted father to sons, Randy (Diane) and Brian (Michelle), and proud grandfather to Jaclyn, Jenessa, Ashley, Tamara and Eric. He is also survived by his mother Agnes; and brothers, Larry (Elda), Adelard (Flo); and sister Mary Rose (Ken); and numerous nieces and nephews. Aime was predeceased by his father Remi in 1978. Aime worked in the automotive industry for 35 years retiring from the City of Winnipeg in 1992. Aime enjoyed his retirement years with his wife Joyce. He loved entertaining family and friends during the summer months at Falcon Lake and fishing and golf with his many friends at Enchanting Shores in Naples, FL during the winter. In his younger years, Aime played baseball and hockey. He refereed hockey for 20 years in the MAHA and also internationally. Over the years, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Francis Mission Group. The family would like to thank Aime's family physician, Dr. M.L. Cummings, Drs. Maxwell and Jeyakumar, and the special nurses in Oncology and on the 5th floor of the Victoria Hospital. Cremation has taken place. GEORGE WILLIAM BOXSHALL May 17, 1917 - January 24, 2002 George William (Sonny) Boxshall of Cartwright, MB, died peacefully at the Tri Lake Health Centre in Killarney, MB on January 24, 2002 and went home to be with his Lord. George was born
on May 17, 1917 in Winnipeg and lived in Winnipeg until the age of 13 when, with his family, he moved to Cartwright. There he met Helen Robinson and they were married in 1941. Later they moved to Winnipeg, and had one daughter, Cheryl. During this time he drove for Winnipeg Transit and then the family moved to Churchill where they lived for eight years. In 1973 they returned to Cartwright and he drove a school bus for 12 years. Helen died in 1977 and George married Margaret (Peggy) Gwynne in September 1978. They resided in Cartwright until his death. George served as the Anglican Church People's Warden for many years and took an active part in the community. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 86, and had served in the Second World War. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Peggy; daughter Cheri (Kim) Raban and grandsons, Clayton and Everett of Winnipeg; stepchildren, Jimmy and family, Heather and family, and Rob; sisters, Dorothy Bridges, Sylvia Wallace, Eileen Wallace and Enid Smith; brother Allan (Candy) Boxshall; sister-in-law Anne Boxshall; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents, Ruth (nee Cantlon) and George Edward Boxshall; his first wife Helen (Robinson); sister Shirley Trembath; and brother Jack Boxshall. KYLE BRIAN WILLIAM BROOKS November 22, 1983 - January 23, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and great friend on January 23, 2002. and raised in Selkirk. He was currently attending the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive School and was employed at Home Hardware. In the beginning he volunteered for a day and he was hired. Kyle loved his job and was recognized for his outstanding customer service abilities. In his spare time he enjoyed playing pool, outdoor hockey, basketball, volleyball, fishing, ski-dooing and playing on the computer. But most of all he enjoyed hanging out with his friends. It was common for Kyle to stay home and spend quality time with his family. His friends were and always will be welcomed into the Brooks home. JOSEPH ANTHONY CAPRI It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Capri on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Joe leaves to mourn his wife Marie; his sister Lori McSkimmings; and his brothers, Anthony and Mike. He also will be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Maria, father Nicola; sisters, Mary Dentice and Phil White; also his father-in-law and mother-in-law Michael and Tina Panteluk. Joe was born
in Winnipeg on December 9, 1918 and grew up in the Fort Rouge area. He served his country during the Second World War in the Navy. Joseph was well known in the automobile industry and was a Master Salesman and a Sales Manager for numerous dealerships during the 1950s - '80s. He was also a District Representative for Nissan Canada in Calgary and Vancouver. He retired from Canada Moving and Storage as a Long Distance Moving Salesman. Joe moved to St. Andrews, MB in 1976 and resided on Capri Road at a development started by him. He truly enjoyed his country retreat. In his younger years Joe was an accomplished athlete excelling in fastball. One of his first jobs in his teens was in the Red Lake Mines where he displayed his prowess as a fastball pitcher. Joe played for many Winnipeg Senior Men's fastball teams and in recent years enjoyed the annual Softball Reunions. Joe was a member of the Khartum Shrine 101 and thoroughly enjoyed his participation at the many parades and his support at the annual Shrine Circus. He was also a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Winnipeg Branch No. 1. The family expresses a special thank you to the home care workers of the Selkirk region who tended to Joe's needs. Also many thanks to Karen and Joan for their support and guidance. Cremation has taken place. DIANE M. CARSWELL (WALTERSON) (nee ROUSSON) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Diane, on January 25, 2002, at the Riverview Health Centre. Diane was predeceased by her father Cleophas Rousson of Oak Lake, MB; her first husband Wally Walterson; her daughters, Michelle and Tammy; and a great-nephew. April 28, 1947, at Virden, MB, and was raised on the family farm Southwest of Oak Lake. She received her education at Sandhurst Country School, St. Michael's Academy, Brandon, and at Marvel School of Hair Design, Winnipeg, and worked in Winnipeg until her retirement in 1995. Ken and Diane were married on September 30, 1995 and spent six happy years together. They enjoyed golf with friends in Phoenix and time at their Grand Beach cabin. A special thank-you to her friends Holli Roland and Janet Hare who travelled from the U.S.A. to visit with Diane during her last days. We also wish to thank the unbelievable staff at Riverview for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Diane during her stay. At Diane's request cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Oak Lake at a later date. BIK FONG CHIN On January 24, 2002, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Bik Fong Chin left this life peacefully to be with our Lord.
