JOHN KARPA It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and Dido, John Karpa, on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the age of 80 years. John will be dearly missed by his wife Stefania of 40 years; son Mark (Shelley); three beloved grandchildren, Orycia, Alexander and Adrianna; and nephews in Lviv, Ukraine. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother and sister. John was born icon on August 17, 1923 in selo Vetlin, near Jaroslav, Western Ukraine. Upon settling in Winnipeg, John became involved in the Ukrainian community with Institute Prosvita, Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood, Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) and was an active parish member at the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. John was an avid gardener and enjoyed both building things with his own hands and engaging in political discussions. Upon his death, John felt at peace that he was able to witness an independent Ukraine, and most importantly that he spent all his free time with his three grandchildren. Prayers (Panachyda) will be sung 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at Sts. Marie was affectionately known as "Granny" not only to her three grandchildren but also to her extended family and friends. She embraced people with an open heart, touching all with her amazing gifts, her baking delicious cookies with love, sewing socks and buttons with precision, creating beautiful knits and quilts with creativity and flair, planting row upon row of blooming plants and flowers with her green thumb, picking blueberries for the perfect pie, writing a lovely letter to those far from home, teaching card games and sharing stories over a good cup of tea. Even as her body began to fail her, she remembered her youth, summers at the lake and longtime friends. No matter how we remember Granny, it will be memories filled with life, laughter and love. You always knew where you stood with Patrick, even if you didn't agree with him! He worked at several jobs over the years, meeting his wife Gloria while working at Vanguard Ind. They enjoyed almost 20 years together raising the kids and working for a better future. Patrick finally found his dream job in 1998 when he got his Class 1 license and began driving long-haul for Reimer Express. FREDRICK MOORE

FREDRICK GEORGE MOORE On Sunday, June 6, 2004 at 9:30 p.m., after a long, hard struggle, Fred drew his last precious breath. He died peacefully at home, in his own bed as he had wished. Fred (Dudie) was born icon in Manigotagan on June 20, 1927 to George (Shorty) and Martha (Dottie) Moore. He was the first born icon of seven children, six who survived infancy. He is survived by his loving wife Sis; children, Freda (Cyril Genaille), Rick (Arlene), Steven Thomas, Marilyn Thomas and Kimberley (Curtis Moore); as well as his grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Anne (Louis Dowie), Edna (John Simperl), Berneice (Gerry Herbst), Walter (Anna) and Georgetta (Jim Kirkness). Fred's heritage into a family of prospectors could not be denied. He became a diamond driller and began his lifelong love affair with the great outdoors, "God's Cathedral." He was not expecting a whole new life to unfold at the age of 50 when he was introduced to Sis in the shed row at Assiniboia Downs. It would be a year later that they began their life together in Kamloops and McLure, BC, then back to Manitoba: Fraserwood, Gimli and recently Winnipeg. Fred, at times, could be stubborn, obstinate, selfish and irresponsible, but he was more so loving, patient and easy going. He was young at heart and managed to teach his family about life in the bush and entertained us with his amazing ability to tell stories and jokes for hours - never the same one twice. His wonderful sense of humour and sometimes just plain orneriness would help carry him through twelve years of prostate cancer, emphysema and finally lung cancer. And who could ever forget the whistling... A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Worship Centre at Riverview Health Centre with Chaplain Theresa Campbell officiating. Refreshments will follow. Interment will take place at Traverse Bay, MB at a later date. Fred and Sis extend their deepest thanks to the angels who came into our lives on this journey; the staff at Riverview 3E, Mary Ashcroft and the Palliative Care Team for helping us spend the last six months at home, Chaplain Theresa Campbell, hospice volunteer Dwaine Gauthier, faithful friends and most especially to Dr. Janice Mulder. "Remember, it's the journey, Not the destination." WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS & FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
