LIL SIMKIN

LIL SIMKIN Lil Simkin passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2004 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 86 with her family by her side. Born on May 17, 1918 in Calgary, AB. She and her husband Jim raised their family in Winnipeg before moving to Palm Springs, CA. They lived there for 28 years while spending their summers in Winnipeg and Falcon Lake. Lil had a large extended family and numerous friends, many of whom she often kept in touch with by telephone. Lil was active with the Peretz School and Talmud Torah while her children attended both schools and was a member of National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah Wizo. Following the death of her husband, Lil moved back to Winnipeg in 2001 so that she could be close to her daughter Sharron Dudeck (Joel), her son Simon Simkin (Cynthia Hiebert-Simkin) and her grandchildren, Francie and Lauren Dudeck and Sharla, Sarey, Nathan and Jenna Simkin. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She moved to The Waverley where she made many new friends who greatly enriched her final years and with whom she enjoyed meals, visits and bridge games. She continued to keep in contact with her extended family and friends, near and far. The family would like to thank her physicians, Dr. Robyn Olson, Dr. Karen Boyd and Dr. Ruth Simkin, and all the staff on 5-North at the Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and consideration during her stay. She appreciated all of the visits, calls and letters from her family and friends. She is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, her sisters, Pearl Kass (Miami, FL) and Sara Donin, her in-laws, Jen Cohen, Abe and Fan Simkin, Myna Simkin (Palm Springs, CA), Rosetta Isenstein (Calgary, AB), numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service, held on Tuesday, June 8 at Congregation Etz Chayim with interment at Rosh Pina Memorial Park, was officiated by Rabbi Henry Balser and Tracy Kasner-Greaves. Pallbearers were Ruthy Gale, Jack Simkin, Sam Simkin, Francie Dudeck, Lauren Dudeck and Nathan Simkin. Honorary pallbearers were Abe Simkin, Martin Ehrlichman, Hartley Gale and Jacqueline Simkin. Shiva is being observed at 840 Oak St. Minyan is at 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning. Donations in her memory may be made to The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.

KATHLEEN SMITH

KATHLEEN AUDREY SMITH Born March 14, 1923 in Dufferin Municipality, MB. passed away peacefully in her home in Ottawa on Sunday, June 6, 2004. "Aunt Audrey", as she was known to both friends and family, spent her working career with the Federal Government and her free time assisting those in need of a little "helping along". A fiercely independent woman with a strong mind, an iron will and a loving heart will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Audrey was orphaned at 11 years of age along with her eight year old brother Arthur (deceased May 2003) during the Great Depression. Both children left the farm in Carmen, MB to be brought up by their aunt Dottie and uncle George Kime along with their daughter Lillian in Winnipeg. Audrey left Winnipeg at the age of 17 to start her career with the Federal Civil Service in Ottawa, where she worked for 40 years. Audrey leaves behind a wealth of good and dear friends, a niece Lynda Palahniuk and her family in Kelowna, BC, a nephew Alan and his family in Port Perry, ON and a cousin Lillian in Lake Havasu, Arizona. Funeral service will be held at St. Martin's Anglican Church, 2120 Prince Charles Rd., Ottawa, ON, on Saturday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. Should friends desire, donations may be made to her favourite service organization, Ottawa West Community Support, 1137 Wellington St., Ottawa, ON K1Y 2Y8. MONIQUE ST-JEAN (nee DESJARDINS) June 12, 1954 - June 8, 2004 After a short, courageous battle with cancer, Monique beloved wife of Michel, passed away at the age of 49 years. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue DesMeurons. A longer obituary will follow in Saturday's edition. FRED TIMPSON On Saturday, June 5, 2004, Fred Timpson passed away in Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 81 years. Fred is survived by his brother Harry as well as many other relatives and friends. Rose was born icon in St. Boniface on August 13, 1916, and resided her entire life in the St. Boniface-St. Vital area. Rose and Art were married on August 20, 1938. She worked for many years at the Hudson Bay Company. Rose and Art spent many happy summers trailering at West Hawk Lake, and then at the cottage at Lake Brereton. Rose loved company and her home was the scene of many parties and family gatherings. She loved to knit, especially afghans, which her family continues to use. RANDOLPH CORNELIUS WIEBE Randolph Cornelius Wiebe passed away accidentally on June 6, 2004 in Maple Ridge, BC at age 47 years. Randy was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He will lovingly be remembered by his sons, William and Carl; parents, Neil and Kathie; brothers, Robert, Roland, Richard, Rheinhardt (Leanne) and Reynold; as well as nephews, Reilly and James. WOLANSKI November 8, 1914 - June 8, 2004 I may be gone from this place to be reunited with my beloved wife, Nellie, who predeceased me in 1983, but I live on in the hearts and dreams of those who love me. TOM WOZNY Suddenly, on Monday, June 7, 2004, Tom Wozny, passed away at home, at the age of 62 years. Tom will be lovingly remembered by his beloved and devoted wife Sheila, his stepchildren, Michelle (Rick) Scarborough, Stephen Laws, Rebecca (Shaun) Guerin; grandchildren, Justin and baby Owen; his brothers, Bob (Irene) and Alan; his nieces and nephews, in particular Corey and Dara-Lynn. Tom was predeceased by his parents and his sister Donna Gluck. Tom was employed with the C.N.R. for 32 years. He loved to travel, cook, enjoyed music, and making videos of special events. DOREEN LEA (nee MOWAT) Suddenly on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, Doreen Lea of Matheson Island, MB, aged 69 years, passed away with her family by her side. Born October 4, 1934 at Selkirk. Doreen married Roland Lea of Pine Dock in 1953. They first settled in Little Point and then later moved to Matheson Island to raise their five children. Doreen's early years of employment, in addition to raising her children, included working on the S.S. Keenora, trapping, commercial fishing, community supervising, cooking for outpost camps in northern Manitoba and N.W.T. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She always had a cup of tea and her famous oatmeal cookies and dainties ready whenever visitors dropped by. She spent her free time baking, making crafts, knitting and crocheting. She loved to hear the fish stories told by Roland, her children and others. She enjoyed her time alone staying at her camp at nearby Black Fox Island. She decided to stay away from there, when the bears took over the camp. She was very outspoken and gave good advice or a good laugh when she did. She enjoyed assisting Roland in gardening, planting flowers and feeding the birds and squirrels (she disliked black birds). Doreen was predeceased by her parents Katie and Arthur Mowat; great-granddaughter Colette Ladouceur; brothers, Peter, Allan, Wallace, William, Arthur, Ivan, Percy; sisters, Priscilla, Esther and Nellie; sisters-in-law, Nora, Polly-Ann and Ruby; brothers-in-law, Victor and Russell. Doreen leaves to mourn her passing husband, Roland; children, Debbie, Brenda (Stan), Donna (Jeff), Doyle (Charlene) and Tim (Marilyn); grandchildren, Mona, Amber, Derek, Michelle, Cameron, Nicole, Justin, Matthew, Patrick, Jamie, Devin, Ryan and seven great-grandsons, Quentin, Rudy, Trevor, Cody, Matthew, Nicholas and Ashton. She will also be remembered by son-in-law Don Ladouceur; sister-in-law Allie Mowat; brothers, Harvey (Dorothy) and Tom; sister-in-law and special friend Laura Mowat; special friends, Eileen Johnson and Millie Bruce and special nieces, Cathy Cook, Janet and Mandy Bennett, Judy Eastman, JoAnne Flett, Wendy Monkman, Connie Smith and Edie Carlson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and endless number of friends. Tea grannie will be forever remembered and missed by the youngest great-grandsons, along with everyone else. Prayers will be held on Friday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Cremation will follow Friday night's service and a memorial service will be held at Matheson Island Community Hall on Saturday, June 12 at 3:00 p.m. Neill Von Gunten will be officiating the prayers and services. LEONTINE BERTHE LENHARD (nee HEBRARD) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Leontine Lenhard at the St. Boniface Hospital on June 7, 2004. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald E. Lenhard; her sisters, Agnes Gaden, Marie Daudet and Henriette Turenne. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Helen Deniset, Yvonne Turenne, Eva Purvis, John Turenne (Wendy Henriksen), Claudette (Tony Sehn), Alice McKee; and numerous great nieces and nephews and their families. Lee was a member of Christ the King Catholic Women's League, the Manitoba Antique Society and the RCMP Veteran's Wives' Association. "Aunty" Lee was a lady of dignity and grace who had a gentle, kind spirit. She devoted herself to her family unconditionally. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr. Ebbeling and the staff on 6A at the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion that they extended to Lee while she was in the hospital. DONALD LINDSAY

DONALD LINDSAY passed away, June 8, 2004 in the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 89 years. Donald was born icon in Elfrose, SK on April 29, 1915, and at four years of age he went to Kenora. While Donald was in Kenora he was educated at North Ward and Central Schools where he completed his grade nine year. In 1929 he moved to Winnipeg and lived in St. Vital with his mother Marg. Donald had a number of different jobs throughout the years. Starting with the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting in Flin Flon for three and one half years, in 1933 he worked as an electrician for Stuart Electric, 1934 worked as an independent contractor for two years, 1936 was a baker for St. Andrews Bakery as well as in 1937 at St. Mary's Road Baker for four more years and in 1941 he worked for Bryces Bakery for one year. Donald joined the Army in 1942 and served for six months before being discharged due to a medical problem. He went back to Bryces Bakery for three more years before he started working for CNR where he worked for 30 years while running the St. Vital Cycle Shop from 1936 - 1957. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the St.Vital Cemetery, the corner of River Road and Bishop Grandin Boulevard. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
