MARGARET COOK

MARGARET CATHERINE COOK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Sister-in-law and Aunt, at her home in Winnipeg on Wednesday, June 23, 2004. Born January 4, 1937 in Cross Lake, MB, she was the daughter of Alice Cook and the late Thomas Cook. Margaret had two great loves in her life: spending time with family and socializing with her friends. She was always there for people who confided in her with their problems. She was a hard and conscientious worker in her personal and professional life as a Nurses Aide. She had a great sense of humour and a quick smile for everybody. She was a devoted Catholic who attended Mass at every opportunity. She was charitable and she opened her home to those in need of a place to stay or a chat with a cup of tea. As life goes on she will be remembered and loved by the members of her vast family and friends.

IRENE DEROO

IRENE MARIE LEONTINE DEROO Peacefully at Prairie View Lodge in Pilot Mound, MB, on Thursday, July 8, 2004, Irene DeRoo, aged 85 years. Irene was born icon December 6, 1918 in Swan Lake, MB. She was a deeply religious, caring, and loving woman who was dedicated to her family and students. She had a delightful sense of humour and she loved music and books. Miss DeRoo obtained a teaching certificate at St. Johns College in New York and later a Bach. of Ed. from the University of Manitoba. While teaching in Montreal, she became interested in counselling and earned the necessary psychology credits at McGill University. Her total educational career spanned a period of some forty years and involved teaching jobs in Bruxelles, St. Alphonse, Swan River, Pilot Mound, Montreal, New York, and finally Vincent Massey in Winnipeg. During her career she taught every grade from one to twelve. Miss DeRoo was a dedicated counsellor and teacher who regarded the students with great affection, without looking at them through rose-coloured glasses. The staff will attest that she was a good friend and companion. Irene was a strong sister who will be sadly missed by Morris (Mary) DeRoo, Richard (Alice) DeRoo, Martha DeVloo, and Bernadette Decosse; in-laws, Herb Briem and Lorette DeRoo. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Victor and Augusta DeRoo, brother Joseph DeRoo, sisters, Mary VanCauwenberghe and Anna Briem; in-laws, Rene VanCauwenberghe, Maurice DeVloo, and Marcel DeCosse. She is an aunt to too many to mention. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Swan Lake, MB on Tuesday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m., Officiant Father Gerry Sambrano. Interment will follow the service at the Swan Lake Parish Cemetery. Prayers will be said at the church on Monday evening, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. Friends, if they desire, may donate in her memory to a charity of their choice. Graham's Funeral Service of Pilot Mound in care of the arrangements.

The family wishes to express thanks to the careworkers and staff at Jocelyn House for the care and comfort given during her illness. A family service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Cancer Society or Jocelyn House in her name would be appreciated. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep I am the gentle winds that blow The diamond glints on fallen snow I am the sunlight, a field of grain The soft, refreshing Autumns rain I am a calm and peaceful night And the mornings newborn light I am the stars and clouds above Birds in flight, the call of a dove Do not stand at my grave and cry I am not there, I will not die If you remember me.

GREG DOROSCHUK

GREG DOROSCHUK It is with deep sadness but acknowledgement of his everlasting presence that I write this tribute to recognize the accomplishments and announce the passing of my dear friend, mentor and brother Greg Doroschuk. With family at his side, Greg passed away on July 7, 2004 following a short illness. Rather than place undue stress on health care staff, friends and family, he chose a pragmatic and eloquent parting to his life. Greg was predeceased by his brother Glenn in 1975 and he leaves to mourn his parents Jean and Victor, sister Gaylene (Romero), her family Oscar, Victoria, Josie and soon to be arriving "Jr.", many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends throughout Winnipeg and abroad, and cousin "extraordinaire" Heather Doroschuk. Greg graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Manitoba in 1982. He was a valued asset and sure success in the business world as a result of his enthusiastic comportment, dedicated work ethic and brilliant mind. Greg was most recently employed with Standard Aero in the capacity of Government Liason. In addition, he worked as Lloyd Axworthy's executive assistant with numerous hours dedicating himself to the Liberal Party and its vision for Canada. An ingenious public speaker, Greg easily expressed his leadership capabilities through volunteerism and active participation in Junior Achievement, Aiesec, Toastmasters, Young Liberals, other professional community affiliations and civic politics. Many a happy hour was spent attending Blue Bomber games, frolicking at Grand Beach, political conventions and educational conferences. Greg was a kind hearted soul with an easy going attitude and willingness to help others. His zest for life took us on a journey we will never forget and his special charm created a warmth and laughter within our hearts. The sibling relationship I shared with Greg throughout our childhood and into adulthood created a unique connection difficult to describe but amazing to experience. Through the safety, happiness and hilarity of it all, our only regret is that my own children will never have the opportunity to directly learn from this great man. Thank you to Ann Szabo RN, the lung transplant team at Health Science Centre and family physician Dr. Ishmael Mohammed for their care, compassion and honesty. It was Greg's wish that his body be used for tissue donation and research. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or a charity of their choice. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Greg's life at the Canad Inn Club Regent Hotel Ambassador Room, 1415 Regent Ave. on Tuesday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. It is hoped that remembering our special moments with Greg will bring healing laughter through grieving tears. It was his request that he be remembered in a celebratory rather that somber ambiance and with gladness of heart and mind. We'll miss you Greg and love you always.
