MARSHALL MARGOLIS Peacefully at the age of 60, on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, surrounded by his family and friends after a most courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. Devoted husband and soulmate of Zoe. Beloved father of Ari, Jeff and Mira. Loving son of Connie Margolis and son-in-law of Syble and Jim Klady all of Winnipeg. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Brian and Zlota of Winnipeg. ALEXANDER MEDERIC MASSE After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on July 12, 2004, Alex went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 59. Service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Charleswood Gospel Temple on the Perimeter Highway, south of Roblin Boulevard, west side. SAMUEL MAYNES

SAMUEL PEERPONT MAYNES 1916 - 2004 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing at Victoria Hospital on Saturday, July 10, 2004, of our beloved and devoted husband, father, grandparent and friend at the age of 88 years. Sam is survived by his lifelong companion and wife Irma (Kim) whom he married in 1945; his daughter Kathleen; grandchildren, Tina, Cora-Les, James, Jenna-May and Gina-Marie; one great grandchild Isaac; and four sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Sam was born icon and raised in Harroby, MB. Sam served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War doing aircraft maintenance before he became the Industrial Arts Supervisor in the St. Vital School Division. Sam had a vision to create and Industrial Arts program second to none. In this he succeeded as the Industrial Arts program in St. Vital became and still is the envy of all other school divisions. During his term as Industrial Arts Supervisor he promoted his beliefs before all who would listen, from local trustees to the minister of education. During his educational career he served in many other educational roles, both at the local and provincial levels. Sam was an avid sportsman, participating in hunting, fishing, golf and curling. He and Kim also liked to play bridge and visit with good friends. Sam Maynes was a good man and a loyal and trusted husband, father, grandparent and friend of all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road. CARMELA MILITANO

CARMELA MILITANO (nee FOTI) Born September 22, 1928 in Cosoleto Reggio Calabria (Italy), passed away after a lengthy struggle with cancer on July 11, 2004. She was predeceased by her mother Guiseppina Foti and her father Antonino Foti. She leaves to mourn her husband Domenico Militano; her four children, Carmelo (Vera), Tony (Kellie), Rosa (John), Pina (Thamaseb); and her five grandchildren, Adrianna, Domenic, Matthew, Dariush, Parissa; her brothers and sister, Angelo (Olga) Foti, Rocco (Melina) Foti, Frank (Antonella) Foti, and Domenica (Cosmo) Nocida. As well, she leaves to grieve her in-laws, Nancy Militano (predeceased by John), Lina Militano (predeceased by Tony), Angela Zirino (predeceased by Michael), Domenica (predeceased by Carmine), Rocco and Rosinia Luppino (Italy), Rocco and Alphonsina Militano (Italy), Joe and Shirley Militano (Cambridge, ON). She also leaves to mourn numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Australia, the United States, Italy and Canada. Married in Italy in 1953, she followed her husband to Canada in 1955. She was a kind, gentle, loving person who had a passion for her grandchildren, children, nature and animals. She was a skilled seamstress and worked in many sewing facilities in Winnipeg. Prayers will be said on Thursday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 16 at 11:00 a.m. also in Holy Rosary. Entombment will follow in Assumption Chapel Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Marc-Anthony Foti, Carmine Militano (Calgary), Joe Foti, Carmine Militano (Winnipeg), James Torchia, Joe Zirino, Rocco Gianpaulo, Guiseppe Foti (Italy). NELLIE MISCHUK

NELLIE MISCHUK Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her family, Nellie (Anastasia) passed away on July 10, 2004. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Dmytro of 49 years; son Dennis; daughter Lorraine Orysia (Tim Osachuk); grandson Ilya; sister Patsy; brothers, Mike, Alex, Metro, Peter, Paul, Dennis; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Harry Sowtis. Nellie was born icon on March 5, 1934 in Fosston, SK, where she received her education. On July 17, 1955, she married the love of her life, Dmytro and within a short time moved to Winnipeg, where they made their home and raised their family. With pleasure and dedication Nellie worked at the Ukrainian Voice Bookstore and Gift Shop for 23 years. She was an active member of the Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada Lesia Ukrainka Branch at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, where she held several executive positions. She was a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Women's Council, where she also held several executive positions. Nellie was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, baba and friend. The one very special joy in her life was her grandson Ilya. She enjoyed her volunteer work which she referred to as "a labour of love". She loved gardening and sharing the produce with family and friends. Prayers will be held on Friday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, 1175 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, with Rev. Alexander Harkavyi officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Nellie's six brothers. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nellie's memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral. The family wishes to thank all who assisted in Nellie's care over the months and in particular the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital and the many friends who visited with her. ANNA NIKKEL Anna Nikkel, aged 92 of Steinbach and formerly of Calgary passed away suddenly July 8, 2004 at her son's home in Winnipeg. Born in Rucknau, Russia, she immigrated to Canada in 1925 with her mother and five siblings. Anna will be lovingly remembered by her son Ben Watkinson and her daughter MaryAnne (Al) Sum. She will be mourned by two grandsons, Ted Sum and Darryll Sum and his wife Michelle Brennan; as well as niece Gina Van Dusen. She was predeceased by her husband Benjamin Rhodes Watkinson Sr. She very much enjoyed her homestead flower garden, travelling to Radium Hot Springs and bingo at Golden Age Club. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach with public viewing at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. PETRONILA SERAFICO RAMOS (NANAY PATRING) passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, Petronila (Nanay Patring) Serafico Ramos, aged 84 years, dearly beloved wife of the late Pedro Ramos Sr. Nanay Patring leaves to cherish her memory, and will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Remy and Juanete Ramos in Winnipeg, numerous children and their respective families, many other relatives and friends in the Philippines. Lamay will be held on Friday, July 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight (prayers at 8:00 p.m. also on Friday) at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St., with Rev. Fr. Willy Benito officiating. HELEN LOUISE SHAPANSKY Peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at the Portage General Hospital, Helen Shapansky, beloved mother of Sandra, Maxine, Heather, Janice and Hugh, passed away at the age of 70 years. DAVID SHORES

DAVID EDWARD (TED) SHORES May 27, 1911 - July 12, 2004 Following a short stay in the Victoria Hospital, David passed away at the age of 93 years. David was predeceased by his parents, David and Jessie Shores; his sister Kathleen (Kay); and a cousin in England. He spent his life in Winnipeg and was employed by Eaton's as a sign painter for 50 years, until his retirement in 1976. During his time with Eaton's, he spent six months of each year working on the Eaton's Santa Claus Parade. He was a lifelong member of the Vintage Locomotive Society (Prairie Dog Central) and was the illustrator and photographer for their newsletter. He was also a member of the Red River Valley Live Steam Association for many years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 16 at St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave. Interment at St. John's Cathedral Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Newsome, Bryan Harmer, Bob Harris, Jack Sine, Gordon Pilcher and Ralph Grant. Special thanks to the 5th floor nursing staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care of David. DOUGLAS JOHN SKYHAR 1969 - 2004 It is with sadness that the Skyhar family announces the sudden passing on July 8, 2004 of Douglas John Skyhar. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his mother Florence; brother Ed (Jacqueline), children, Daryn and Laura; and brother Fred (Pamela). Doug was predeceased by his father William. Doug was a loyal employee with the City of Winnipeg's Park and Recreation for his adult life. Doug was always willing to help anyone in need, family, friends and coworkers. Doug was a private man, yet willing to help anyone anyway he could. His passing will be felt by everyone he knew, especially his mother to whom he was devoted. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. DOREEN TOUGAS On Monday, July 12, 2004, Doreen Tougas passed away at the Ste. Anne Hospital in Ste. Anne, MB at the age of 71 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Robert Tougas; daughters, Lorraine (Gerald) Desautels and Eliane (Gary) Broda, and her son Paul (Paulette) Tougas; sister Mimi (Gilbert) Pattyn; brothers, George Levesque, Dollard (Yvonne) Levesque, Ghislain Levesque and Guy (Ida) Levesque; grandchildren, Jason and Shawn Desautels, Michelle, Kyle and Renee Broda and Julian Tougas; her in-laws, Joannie Levesque, Jeannine Carriere, Ubald and Barbara Tougas, Laurie and Iris Tougas and Denise Tougas. She will also be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, her AlAnon friends and the residents at Villa Youville. Doreen was predeceased by her son Marc in 1980 and by two brothers, Gilles and Aurel Levesque. Doreen was born icon in Monmartre, SK on July 22, 1932. Her true passion was her family, gardening, nature walks, curling and volunteer work. She was renowned for her great cinnamon buns. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. de Moissac and the compassionate staff at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Memorial mass will be celebrated by Fr. Rene E. Chartier at the Ste. He is survived by his five children, Eric (Barb), Ivan (April), Jo-Anne (Paul), Janis (Bob) and Lynn (Cheryl); eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Wannamaker, Louise (Clifford Wannamaker, deceased) and Jo (Eric Beard, deceased). Earle was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence Martha Wanamaker (nee Woods); brother Howard; infant son David Neal Howard; grandson Andrew Wanamaker; and sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Lloyd Irvine. Dad, the seeds you have planted in your many churches will continue to grow and flourish. We know that the Lord has found you faithful. GEORGE WARNOCK Peacefully on Monday, July 12, 2004 George passed away at Pembina Place Personal Care Home. He is survived by loving wife Betty; sons, Bruce and Peter; daughter Brenda Ness, son-in-law Chris and granddaughters, Jennifer (Aaron) and Lynn; sisters, Margaret Mack, Viola Weil (John); and brother Gordon. George was born icon July 1, 1924 in Wiarton, ON, son of Harvey and Mary Warnock. George worked in the aviation industry all his life and retired from Canadian Airlines in 1984. He was a life member of the Winnipeg Philatelic Society and the Royal Canadian Legion. A private family memorial is planned. Special thanks to the very caring staff at Pembina Place and Victoria Hospital. It was comforting to know he was in such good hands.
