MAURICE BELLERIVE

MAURICE "MOE" BELLERIVE It is with overwhelming sorrow that we announce the loss of our husband, father, and grandfather Maurice on July 20, 2004. His wife Clotilde and granddaughter Jacqueline were at his side, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the time of his passing. His memory will be cherished by his wife Clotilde of 54 years; his children, Roger (Amy), Lorraine (Tony) Compayre, Diane (Clifford Paddock) and special "daughter" Irene (Dan) Davie. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Leon (Angie and Alyssa), Jacqui, Julie, David and Mitchell; as well as step-grandchildren, Arlene Blais (Ashley and Marc) and Ronald (Helen) Medwedew. He is survived by one sister Anita Sorobey and several nieces and nephews. Maurice was born icon on August 18, 1924 in Ste. Elizabeth, MB and later moved to St. Boniface. As a young man, Moe served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. His need for adventure led him to Churchill, MB in 1949 to work for the Foundation Company. In 1950 he married Clotilde Cloutier and returned to Churchill where they spent the first 35 years of their marriage. During his years in Churchill, Moe was an active community member, involved in many organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion, Churchill Curling Club, Lions Club and serving several terms as a Town Councillor. In 1984 he retired from the Department of Transport and moved to Rocky Lake to build a log cabin and retirement home where there was plenty of open space, lots of fishing, and always someone in need of his advice. Moe, affectionately known as Moe-On-Call, Grandpa Gadget, The Old Timer and Mr. Fix-It, was a skilled tradesman who was known for his willingness and ability to help others at any time of day or night. He didn't believe there was anything that could not be fixed and rose to every challenge. His love of work was equalled by his love of play and his enjoyment of family, friends and neighbours. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, fishing, boating and golf. He was genuinely interested in everyone and everything. He liked to keep up with current news, events and issues and loved to engage in debates on any topic from technology to politics. Moe loved life and didn't waste a moment of his near 80 years. He is deeply loved and will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the medical staff, especially Dr. Andrew Dickieson, at the St. Boniface Hospital MICU for their compassionate care during Moe's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., with Fr. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their families, Shona, Gary, Shane and Wes Treleaven; and Sandra, Ken, Claire, Milo and Ellen Friesen. Bett was born icon in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1931 and was adopted and raised by her grandmother Isabella Robertson. Bett and Albert met and married in 1951 and became a family soon after with the births of their daughters, Shona and Sandra. In 1958, the family immigrated to Canada aboard the Queen Elizabeth II. She worked at the Chocolate Shop, The Pancake House at Polo Park for 17 years and Metro Drugs. Bett stopped working when Albert got sick and after his death, she found joy in spending time with her three young grandchildren. Claire, Milo and Ellen will cherish the memories of afternoons with Grandma. She loved family get-togethers and every gathering was cause for celebration. Bett loved to travel, whether it was enjoying boat cruises with Albert, camping with her girls, or taking weekend jaunts with their friends to country fairs. All who met her saw a woman who loved life, who enjoyed good food and friendship and music. Many will remember Bett as the first one up on the dance floor. She continued to dance and sing with the staff at West Park Manor, her home for the past seven years. A Celebration of Bett's Life will be held on Monday, August 9 at 5:00 p.m. at West Park Manor, 3199 Grant Ave. Her remains will be taken back to Scotland and laid to rest beside those of her husband, Albert. Shona and Sandra are grateful for the kindness, respect and compassion Bett received from her extended family at West Park. They would also like to acknowledge the support and friendship of Mom's friend Helma in Vancouver and of Di and Jimmy Stuart in Scotland. The cards and letters never stopped coming even when Mom was no longer able to appreciate them. THELMA CHABOYER

THELMA ROSE CHABOYER Thelma was born icon in Port Nelson, MB, December 1, 1920 and passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 21, 2004. Thelma is loved deeply by family members and will live on in the spirits of those she leaves behind. She is the beloved matriarch of a family, which extends to five generations. Left to mourn her passing, but to celebrate her life includes her sister Louise Sinclair; children, Stan, John, Sandra, Raymond and Ronald; and grand-children, Stan, Joseph, Veronica, Laurette, Sharon, John Jr., Daniel, Michelle, Naomi, Michael, Ryan, Joel, Kristen and Benjamin; numerous nieces and nephews; great-grandchildren and even one great-great-grandchild were also a very special part of her life. Thelma was predeceased by her mother Jemima; husband Hans; sisters, Elizabeth, Eleanor; brothers, Dan, Horace, Colin, and Walter. Thelma was a member of York Factory Cree Nation and spent her formative years in northern Manitoba living a traditional Cree lifestyle. She held many jobs through her lifetime but spent the majority of her working years in Churchill where she raised her children. During this time she worked for the Harbour Board and the Department of National Defense on the Army base in Fort Churchill. She began a new life with her children in Winnipeg in 1971 and worked hard as a single working mother struggling to make ends meet. Thelma's life was never easy, but she maintained a cheerful sunny disposition which drew people to her and found her many friends and admirers. Thelma loved animals and children and her house was usually a menagerie of cats, dogs and rabbits that her children brought home. Her happiest moments were spent preparing a delicious meal for the children in her life and watching the birds and animals around her at play. Her greatest sorrow was in not having more children and in not having the time to spend with her family due to her long working hours as a single mother. Thelma had little in the way of formal education but had an unusually sharp mind and a tenacious memory into her advanced years. She enjoyed reading the Bible and found strength in listening to Christian radio programs on a daily basis. Thelma had complete faith in the promise of resurrection and viewed death as a transition to the afterlife. Thelma also loved to travel and was happy that she was able to visit Canada from coast to coast to coast. She had an untapped adventurous side as evidenced by white water tubing in British Columbia at the age of 60. To celebrate Thelma's life a viewing will be held from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 23 in the Chapel of Voyage Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel as well. Cremation will follow as per mom's wishes.
