HENRY HES

HENRY (HENDRIK) HES It is with great sorrow and sadness that our family announces that Henry (Hendrik) passed away suddenly at the St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the age of 75. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Johanna with whom he shared 54 wonderful years; son John (Gerta) and their children, Kimberly (Remi) Hes-Jobin, Joanna and John Jr. (Leah Cavers); son Jacob and his children, Mike, Josh and Amy; son Henry (Tamara) and their children, Jennifer, Candace and Coltin; son Wesley (Theresa) and their daughter Alexsandra; daughter Shirley (Mark) Kneale and their children, Andrea and George and great-grandchildren Janna and Cassidy Hes-Jobin. He is also survived by two sisters, Tietje (Homme) De Vries and Anny Veninga, and their families in Holland. Dad emigrated from Friesland, Holland to Canada in 1954 with Mom and two children. He worked as a farm hand when he first arrived, but soon learned the English language and found himself employment at The University of Manitoba where he was employed for 36 years, mostly in the electrical maintenance department. Our Dad, Pake and Oer Pake, will be remembered for his love of family, his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, his strong work ethic and for his deep faith in the Lord. For Dad, time was no better spent than when he was working in his greenhouse, camping, fishing, playing a great game of cards, and spending time with his children and grandchildren at their cottages. The family wishes to thank the staff at The St. Boniface SICU for their compassionate care during his brief stay. A celebration of Henry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 24 at Elmwood Community Reformed Church, 1040 Beach Ave. Interment will follow at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery. TRAVIS IMLAH It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Travis at the Arborg Hospital on July 18, 2004, at the age of 38. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Fisher Branch Community Centre on Wednesday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. Longer obituary to follow.

LOUIS JANIS

LOUIS JANIS 1924 - 2004 A beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 80. He leaves to mourn his wife Cecelia, daughters, Daphne and Heather and granddaughter Lara. Louis and Cecelia were married in 1945 and began farming in Montmartre, SK until they moved to Toronto. After a year in Toronto they resumed farming at Starbuck, MB. Louis was a member of the Manitoba Flying Farmers. Louis loved to farm and was a great mechanic never ceasing to find innovative ways to make life simpler and easier. In 1980 Louis and Cecelia moved to Winnipeg where he began a new challenge of being a loving and attentive grandfather. Louis and Cecelia celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1995 and their 59th on July 4, 2004. Louis and Cecelia enjoyed playing golf, camping and holidaying in the South during the winter months. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of 3 North at the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jocelyn House at 177 Egerton Rd. Ph: 255-1781. Interment will have taken place. Funeral service on Tuesday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Roblin at Grant.

DORIS MACDONELL

DORIS MARY MACDONELL (nee FRASER) June 27, 1917 - July 21, 2004 passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous two year struggle with bone cancer at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 22 years Gordon Thomas MacDonell; her mother Lillis Maude Webster; her father Oliver Stanley Fraser and her younger sister Margaret (Peg) Mitchell. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her cousin Joan Ross in Winnipeg; step-children, Joan Kullman (William), Douglas MacDonell (Lynn), Lynne Pinterics (Jean) and their families in Winnipeg and abroad; her nephew Fraser Mitchell (Sonja) in Calgary; her nephew Kirk Mitchell (Kathy) in White Rock, BC; her niece Tanny Fitzpatrick (Thomas) in Okotoks, AB; and her four great-nephews, Chad, Craig, Nolan and Scott and one great-niece Kylie. Doris was born icon in Gilbert Plains, MB on June 27, 1917. She was raised and educated in Gilbert Plains and at the University of Manitoba. She enjoyed a long and distinguished career in education teaching grades 1 to 9 in a rural Manitoba school, and teaching in Flin Flon before serving in the Winnipeg School Division as teacher, resource specialist, and school psychologist and in administration as Program Coordinator serving exceptional children. She spent one year on a teaching exchange in Los Angeles, CA. Throughout her adult life, Doris was member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in Winnipeg for more than forty years, serving as chapter president and provincial president of the society. She was a charter member of the Manitoba Psychological Association and the Council of Exceptional Children. She was a long time member of All Saints Anglican Church in Winnipeg. Her interests included the welfare of people, especially children; many sports but curling in particular; travel to all of the continents; bridge and actively supporting the visual and performing arts. She was a member of the Wildwood Club for many years where she enjoyed curling, golf and duplicate bridge. Following retirement, Doris devoted her time to family and friends, travel, volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, United Nations Association and the Misericordia General Hospital Auxiliary where she served as President for ten years. The family would like to thank the patient care staff in the Cancer Care Centre, in the Emergency Department, on the 7th floor Surgical Unit, the 6th floor Medical Unit and the 8th floor Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion provided to Doris throughout her cancer care treatments and during her recent hospitalization (May to July 2004). We would like particularly to thank Theresa and Ade, the private duty care attendants who assisted greatly in providing a quality of life for Doris in the final weeks. At her request, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join members of the family in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel at 669 Broadway in Winnipeg on Tuesday, July 27. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested that charitable donations be made to one of the following organizations: All Saints Anglican Church, the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba or St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation.

LES McFEE

LES ARTHUR McFEE Accidentally, on July 18, 2004 Les passed away near Sioux Lookout, ON. Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; daughter Savannah; his dad and mom, Art and Audrey; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rhoda and John Cogswell. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Les moved to Sioux Lookout in 1987. Les owned and operated McFee's Tavern in Sioux Lookout. Les loved his community and his many friends and family. He was always lending a hand to those in need and frequently supported those within his community. Les married Linda in February, 2004. His pride and joy was his daughter Savannah. Les was an avid sportsman who loved golf, hockey and hunting. His smile and sense of humour will be missed by all those who knew him. Les was known for his wiggle on the putting green and his self proclaimed hardest slap shot in Sioux Lookout. He's made frequent trips to Winnipeg to visit family and friends, and his dogs Stormy and Thunder filled many hours of Les' time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire donation in Les' memory can be made to the Les McFee Memorial, in care of the Northern Lights Credit Union, Sioux Lookout, ON. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Sioux Lookout Hospital, and to friends and family for their support in this difficult time. JOHN TURCHEN Suddenly on July 19, 2004, John passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86. He was predeceased by one sister, Mary; and a brother, Gerry. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 56 years, Clara; daughter Janice (Bob Nantais); son Barry (Gigi); grandchildren, Lisa (Gary), Suzi (David), Robert (Helen), David (Casey) and Tim; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad worked in the fur industry and later he was self-employed as an upholsterer. He loved the outdoors, spending his time golf. He was a great family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. People loved his generous heart and wonderful sense of humour. At John's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held at this time. CONSUELO MORTELA VELASCO December 10, 1926- July 21, 2004 Consuelo (Inang Conching) Mortela Velasco suddenly passed away due to an undiagnosed illness. Inang Conching leaves to cherish her memory her son Rev. Alfredo Velasco (Lourdes), grandchildren, Lester, Arlee and Arnel of Winnipeg, and son Teofilo Velasco (Emmeline), grandchildren, Jeffhraim and Teofilo Jr., in The Philippines, as well as her youngest sister Alejandra Laurea also of Winnipeg. Inang Conching was born icon in The Philippines, and resided in Winnipeg for the last four years. Lamay will be held on Sunday, July 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, and a "Homegoing Service" will be held at 8:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m., at the Filipino Community Church of the Nazarene (FCCN), 214 Henderson Hwy. GLICERINO VENDIVIL VILLANUEVA It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, Glicerino (Bong) Villanueva, on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the age of 37 years. His memory will be forever cherished, and he will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 10 years Ruth; and his precious children, Yahweh (9) and Raphael (7); his mother Teresita Villanueva; sister Annalisa (Mandy); and niece Adriana; sister Marife (Vergel); and nephew Vince. Bong was born icon on Wednesday, December 21, 1966 in Bulacan, Philippines. At 21 years of age he immigrated to Canada in September of 1989, returning to the Philippines to marry the love of his life, Ruth on Tuesday, February 8, 1994. As they made their home in Winnipeg with their two sons, Bong was employed as a mechanic at C & E Motors for five years, and most recently New Flyer Industries. His passion involved repairing cars for his family and friends, and spending quality time with his wife and children, taking many family road trips together. Lamay (viewing) will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight (with prayers being said at 8:00 p.m.), at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 818 Arlington St., with Rev. Fr. Mariano Batucan presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in the Philippines. Active pallbearers will be messrs, Paul Figueroa, Max Figueroa, Lorenzo Lans, Nestor Panganiban, Joseph deLima, Cesar Figueroa, Ed Munoz and Elmel Pilapil. KEN WALSH

KEN R. WALSH After a courageous battle with COPD, Ken passed away on July 20, 2004 at Deer Lodge Centre. His memory will be cherished by loving wife of 49 years, Lillian and children, Barry (Wendy); granddaughter Katie; and Scott (Brenda). He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers, several nieces and nephews and extended family in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba. Ken was born icon in Bathurst, NB on February 5, 1925 and grew up in Montreal. He served 25 years in the Armed Forces, including four years overseas in the Second World War, Korea and Egypt. Following his retirement from the military, he enjoyed 11 years with Scotiabank. Ken and Lillian spent 10 wonderful years in Mission BC and returned to Winnipeg in 1997. The past seven years, living at The Courts of St. James, have been very special to them. Ken loved to laugh and had a sense of humour which didn't diminish, even in his last hours. In keeping with Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. ALBERT WALTER WILSON Albert passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the age of 73 years. Al will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Kim; grandchildren, Kelsey and Colin; daughter Judi; longtime friend Marie; and many relatives and friends. He retired to Moth Lake, ON in 1991 after 45 years with Stovels, later known as LGM Graphics. Al enjoyed sharing his zest for life and many wonderful years snowmobiling, quadding, and fishing at the lake. Special thanks to Dr. Czaykowski, Kristie, Pat Gray and Eva at CancerCare Manitoba. Thanks also to the staff on 3East at Riverview for their great care and compassion. At Al's request, cremation has taken place. ISAYAS ZERU

ISAYAS ZERU July 18, 1973 - July 14, 2004 Isayas Zeru, son of Mr. Habtemariam Zeru and Mrs. Zeharia Asfeha was born icon on July 18, 1973 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he attended his elementary and junior high. He moved to Asmara, Eritrea and completed his high school there. In 1998 Isayas left for South Africa where he lived for two years. He immigrated to Canada on October 17, 2000. Isayas died on July 14, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada. He was preceded by his father Mr. Habtemariam Zeru and mother Mrs. Zeharia Asfeha. On behalf of all his brothers, sisters, other family members and my self I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff on ward 5B at the St. Boniface Hospital, to all his friends, acquaintances and other persons who have visited, comforted and supported him during the time of his sickness. Special thanks to the members of the Eritrean and Ethiopian Communities, to the Holy Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Winnipeg, and other Canadians who have given me unconditional support since the time of my arrival from Sweden to look after my brother. I would also like to express my genuine gratitude for the donations that have now made possible to send Isayas' body back home. Rest in Peace Isayas dear, we all love you!
