EDWARD MALMGREN

EDWARD V. MALMGREN P. Eng. It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years Renee; brother Alan (Nettie); daughters, Susan (Graham), Lori; sons, Gordie (Sandy), Jim; grandchildren, Caroline, Lindy, Mark, Tiffany, Larissa, Kimberley, Katelyn, Sydni, Ariel; great-grandson Joseph; and many nieces and nephews across Canada, England, the United States and Israel. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John, Harvey; and sisters, Margaret and Mabel; and granddaughter Melissa. Edward was raised in Elmwood, then continued on to the University of Manitoba where he attained a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947. Edward helped his father and brothers start up Malmgren Implement Mfg. on Marion Street and Panet Road, where they designed and manufactured Farm Equipment. He went on to an executive position at Allied Farm Equipment then later owned and operated T.S. Taylor Machinery with his brother Harvey. He enjoyed a prosperous career in the Winnipeg business community, he was a member of Winnipeg Executives and the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba. He spent the past 20 years working at Scott Bathgate Ltd. Edward and his brothers were avid boaters through the years, being a member of the Royal Manitoba Yacht Club. He and Renee enjoyed many years of travel to the United States, Canada, England and France. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, supporting and encouraging them always. He was a strong role model with a work ethic and perseverance that inspired all. A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. LOVINE MASEK

LOVINE GLORIA MASEK (nee WORONIAK) March 7, 1930 - August 7, 2004 It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Lovine on August 7, 2004 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital with her niece and nephew at her side. Her memory will be cherished by her sister Anna DeRyckere, and her niece Laurayne Rusak and husband Ron. Lovine was predeceased by her husband Henry; her mother and father, Elias and Katherine Woroniak; a sister Ollie Bryck; and a nephew Craig DeRyckere; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Bryck and Albert DeRyckere. Lovine was born icon and raised in East Kildonan. She attended Polson and Lord Wolsley Schools and then went on to Business College after graduating from high school. She worked as a stenographer for the Creamette Company and after that Electrical Supplies for a number of years. Later on, Lovine worked out of her home, helping her husband with his business. After Henry died, Lovine worked for her nephew Craig in his dental practice for a while. Special thank you to the staff on Units 11 and 12 on the Geriatric Ward of the Seven Oaks General Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness. You are all "Angels" in disguise. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 11, 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe at Brazier, with Brother Jorge Villegas officiating. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. BARBARA McJANNET

BARBARA GAIL McJANNET Peacefully on August 8, 2004 at the Victoria General Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Barbara McJannet, beloved mother of Mark McJannet and daughter-in-law Darcee passed to her rest. She also leaves to mourn her passing her beloved companion Allan Adam. Also surviving are her brother Brian Bell, sister-in-law Barbara and nephews, Jason and Kevin. Barbara will be sadly missed by Mark's father, Jack McJannet. She was predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Ruby Bell. Barbara's early career was in advertising where she made a significant contribution. As well as raising her family, she donated her time and energy to many charities and associations. She touched many lives with her vivacious spirit and energy. Barbara was a caring outgoing person who enjoyed cooking, being at the lake, animals and in particular, her precious little dog Coco. A private celebration was held by her family. Friends are invited to gather with the family on Thursday, August 12 at 310 Park Blvd. N. from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. JOHN DELMAR McNAB Peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2004 John Delmar McNab, aged 76 years, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy; son Douglas (Lana); daughters, Shelley (Ron) and Cindy; grandchildren, Aaron, Audrey, Joshua, Alexandra, Aurora, Samantha, Amelia, Daniel, Karen and Danielle. Also surviving is his brother Wilbert and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Audrey; brothers, Russell and David; and sister Doris. John was a member of P.P.C.L.I. Second Battalion and served in Korea. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, with viewing one hour prior to service. FRANK OBERICK

FRANK OBERICK Mr. Frank Oberick, aged 89 years, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Though our hearts are heavy, we feel tremendously blessed for the precious years we had to live in the company of his gracious spirit and infinite devotion. Frank leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and the love of his life, Olga. Frank's love for Olga was steadfast and pure. For 60 years they walked hand in hand, as they faced every heartache and triumph with love and loyalty. In June of this year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in the company of family and friends. Frank also leaves behind his four children, sons, Ron (Linda), Rick (Doreen), Wayne (Angel); and daughter Pat (Robert); as well as his grandchildren, Daryl (Caroline), Colleen, Shaena, Chantel, Shawn, Cory, Kyle, Matthew and Sarah; and his great-grandchildren, Trent, Brennan and Michayla. He is also survived by his sisters, Frances, Mary and Sally; and by his brother Paul; and sister-in-law Eleanor and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Michael; his mother Katherine; brothers, Mike and John; and great-grandson Dylan. Frank was born icon in Melrose on April 2, 1915. He farmed in Highland Glen before moving to Garson where he worked for Gillis Quarries for 28 years. Following that, he worked as a custodial supervisor for the Provincial Building in Beausejour. Frank was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Church in Garson, MB. His faith was unwavering and evident in the way he treated others. His most treasured times were spent visiting with his family, working in the yard, and enjoying the company of friends. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Golden Age Seniors' Club in Garson of which he was a member for 20 years. He will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him. Frank was held in high esteem by all, but it was the respect of his family that mattered most. Through example, he raised children who became parents worthy of the respect his own children held for him. His gentle kindness and gentle strength drew his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to him. Frank couldn't stand to see anyone hungry, and everyone who visited him left with a full stomach and a full heart. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour, MB. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Cook's Creek, MB on Thursday, August 12 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Garson, MB. WALTER OLYNICK Suddenly on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at home at 79 years of age. Walter was born icon in Silver Creek Municipality, MB on February 28, 1925. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Irene Olynick; brothers, Fred, Bill, Nick and Matt; and sisters, Nettie and Margaret Ledochowski. Walter is survived by wife Olga (Pitolay); sons Roy (Rosanne), Leslie (Heather), honorary son No.3 Jack Werner (Carol); grandchildren, Heather, Brenden, Brittany and Cole; sisters, Ann Sawchyn and Mary Milton. EDWARD OTTO SR. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edward Otto Sr. who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30 2004 in the home of his son Edward Jr. in Calgary, AB, with his wife and children by his side. He is survived by his wife Margaret; his children, Patricia, Lynne and Edward Jr.; and grandchildren, Erin, Brad, Kyna, Elysia, Daniel and Alexandra. He also leaves behind his sister Alice. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and we will all miss him so very much.

MARY PICK

MARY PICK Mary Pick (nee Prociuk), passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre, in Winnipeg, MB. Mary is predeceased by brother Mike; and sisters, Ann and Margaret; also by husband William (Bill) Pick; son Leonard; daughter Barb; daughter-in-law Marcia; son Archie; and granddaughter Susan. Survived by sister Eileen; grandchildren, David (Christine) Kirsten (John), Jennifer (Chris); great-grandchildren, Jake and Luke; and many other extended members of the Pich and Prociuk families. Mary was born icon in Stuartburn, MB on June 14, 1914. Her parents, Stephan and Nellie (Anastasia) Prociuk emigrated from Philpchia, Broschiu Ukraine. Mary was married to her lifelong love Bill on August 5, 1935 in Dauphin at Resurrection Ukrainian Church. Mary was the beloved and loving matriarch of our family. She was a wise, graceful and strong woman, who cherished life's joys, especially those shared with her family and friends. She was a woman of endless strength, who worked hard all her life, and yet never complained of being tired. Mary was a brave woman, who endured and thrived despite unbearable loss in her life. She enjoyed her long career as a dietician's aid for the Winnipeg Municipal Hospital from 1956 until she retired at 60. She was our grandma, our friend, our confidante and councillor, gardening pro and champion perogy-maker. Mary never tired of conversation, a good game of canasta and time spent with the people she loved. As her physical body aged, her spirit endured, in the sparkle of her eyes, in her sweet smile, and the soft giggle we will all miss so much. Above all else, Mary's kindness, selflessness and giving spirit set her apart from the rest. Her unconditional love and boundless generosity are a legacy to us all. Mary's spirit will live on in the hearts and lives of all who loved her. Donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Riverview Health Centre. GERTRUDE (GERTIE) POIRIER (nee PELLETIER) Peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2004 Gertrude "Gertie" Poirier passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital with her family by her side. Besides her loving husband of 55 years, Ralph "Raoul", she leaves to mourn her two sons, Robert and Bernard "Berny" and his wife Marie (Deault) and grandchildren, Ronald, Natalie and Valerie; one sister-in-law Mrs. Juliette Pelletier. Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, Telesphore and Leda (Pedneault) Pelletier; as well as her brothers, Amedee "Jack", Gustave, Alfred, Jean-Baptiste, and Albert "Bert"; and sisters, Therese Marchand, Angeline "Toots" LaRiviere, and Sister Eva Pelletier (Soeur Gertrude-Marie, fdlc). Born in St. Boniface on May 19, 1915, Gertrude attended boarding school in St. Adolphe. As a young woman, she worked at Sovereign Life and Saskatchewan Wheat Pool where she made many lifelong friends including Marcelle (Rocan) Gaudry, Margaret Fraser and Gladys (Craig) Pavloff. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Raoul, and in her final days she always exhorted us to "look after her daddy". Being the youngest of the family, she was closer in age to many of her nieces and nephews, her welcoming spirit was always ready to accommodate one or more for supper at "Gertie's Inn." After Dad's retirement in 1981, Gertrude always looked forward to her daily breakfast at Salisbury House, where the staff were even more important to her than the meals. Gertrude and Ralph were able to take several trips to Florida and British Columbia, and in later years to Saskatoon to visit the grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their care and attention to Mom's needs, as well as Audrey and Dr. Jean Prenovault of Windsor Park Medical Clinic. Special thanks to her "angel", Wendy Hoffman. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, August 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East and Navin Road. Funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Precious Blood Church/L'Eglise Precieux-Sang, 200 Kenny St. (St. Boniface). Rev. Fr. Isaie Blanchette, o.m.i will preside. She immigrated to Canada in 1925, residing in Ashern before moving to Winnipeg. She was employed at The Bay for 34 years. ALMA RICHARDSON February 16, 1917 - August 6, 2004 After a tenacious hold on life, Alma Richardson passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004 at the Charleswood Care Centre surrounded by her niece and nephew, Murial Klause and Hugh MacTavish. She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 1992, four sisters and two brothers. Alma is survived by her children, Bruce and Darlene Corbett, Marlene and Gary Dutton; two stepchildren, Lois Jean Williams and Mel Richardson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister Ada; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends Born in Birch River in 1917, Alma worked for Eaton's at the Elizabeth Arden counter. She was a devoted wife and mother. Alma enjoyed having dinner parties, was interested in fashion, loved to travel, and had a special love for her dog Susie. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. EDWARD SOKALSKI

EDWARD ALFRED SOKALSKI Peacefully, with his loving family by his side, our dad and husband passed away on August 5, 2004. Ed will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Ardeen; daughter Monica (Scott); sons Derek (Janet) and Mike; grandchildren Janna, Courtney, Rayna and Shawn; brothers John (Karen), Tom (Francis) and Stan (Eileen) and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Dad was raised in Elkhorn, MB. At a young age he joined the Air Force and was posted to Gimli, MB. In 1955 her met and married Ardeen Dandy. He always cherished the time he spent at the Dandy farm. His employment with the forces transferred his family from Winnipeg, MB (in 1961) to Calgary, AB. to Trenton, ON. and back to Winnipeg, MB (in 1969), each time building a beautiful home for his family. After 20 years with the Air Force Dad decided enough moving, so he took early retirement. Dad then became employed with Air Canada. In later years he was fortunate to travel and see many different countries. Over the years, Dad was an avid golfer and loved playing for "snips"! He taught all of his children to golf and was always a strong supporter of all their sports. Ed's unique sense of humour will be missed by many. Those at his block will always remember "Ed's Rules".
