MALCOLM GOULD

MALCOLM STANLEY CAMPBELL GOULD (STAN GOULD) Malcolm Stanley (Stan) Campbell Gould, beloved husband of Ellen Gould of Hamiota, MB, died peacefully at the Hamiota District Health Centre, Hamiota on Sunday, August 15, 2004 in his 98th year. Stan is survived by his wife Ellen Gould; daughter Doreen Gould; son Dr. Fred (Donna) Gould; son the Rev. Earl (Joyce) Gould; daughter-in-law Shirley (Jack) Codd; grandchildren, Dickson (Judy) Gould, Dr. Lisa Gould (Dr. Richard Leight), Jason Gould (Sarah Eyton), Crystal, Tracy, Donald Gould, Heather Codd; great-grandchildren, William, Richard, David, Stefan, Anthony, Bronwyn, Tracilynn; brother-in-law Alvin (Mary) Hill; and many relatives including nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Frederick (F.J.) and Ellen (Ella) Gould; sister Mary (Don) MacKay; sister Jean (Robert) Cumming; sister Winnifred (Charles) Dovell; brother Dan (Marion) Gould; brother Dwight Gould; sister Grace Gould; sister-in-law Dorothy Hill; brother-in-law Arnold (Isabel) Hill; and son Dr. Donald Gould (tragically on October 23, 1971). Stan was born icon on the Gould farm (SW 31-11-23) in the RM of Woodworth, two miles south of Kenton on August 25, 1906. To this same farm he brought his bride Louisa Ellen Hill, married November 14, 1934. Stan farmed until his retirement in 1974 but continued to live with his wife Ellen on the farm until moving to Lilac Residence in Hamiota in 1991 and to Birch Lodge PCH in April of this year. As a youth Stan played a cornet in the Kenton Band; he also played the violin, piano, harmonica, and guitar. He was a strong and gifted bass voice in the choirs at Kenton Baptist Church and then the Kenton United Church. Stan was active over his lifetime in church and community. Church involvement, besides choir, included chair of the Board of Stewards, and Elder. Community service highlights for Stan include serving as Chairman of the Manitoba Pool Elevators at Kenton, charter member of the first Credit Union in the RM of Woodworth and its Chairman for many years, and serving as Director and Chairman of the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture District No. 4 through which he made several lifelong friends throughout Manitoba. Stan was a willing partner with wife Ellen in landscaping the Kenton Gould farm grounds such that they won at least one Provincial trophy. Stan was also a reliable partner to Ellen in her Greenhouse Venture, growing and selling bedding plants each spring. This also had the benefit of an annual visit with folks coming from as far as Virden, Shoal Lake, and Rivers to get plants. Stan discovered he had the ability to "witch" for underground water streams with a forked willow branch. His advice was seldom wrong, thus making him keenly sought after by neighbours before drilling a well. Travel included trips to Ontario and the West Coast to visit relatives and the once in a lifetime trip to Britain in 1977 with Fred, Donna and family and Wilfrid and Ivy Heapy. Regular trips were made to Regina to visit Doreen. Even with diminishing eyesight Stan was an enthusiastic and skilled pool player, very much enjoying the company of family and friends whiled playing the game. Indeed, family and friends were central to Stan's life. His infectious laugh, phenomenal memory, love of reading, gracious spirit, and love and gift of storytelling made Stan special. His unassuming presence and genuine love made him a gift to his family and world. He will be profoundly missed by his wife Ellen of almost 70 years. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends. His family invite you to share in celebrating Stan's 98 years of living life to the fullest in a service of worship to be held at the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota, on Friday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Glenna Beauchamp presiding with interment following at Rosewood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Brandon, MB. The family of Stan Gould wishes to especially thank Stan's nephew Allan Cumming and his wife Maxine for their friendship and support. Also deep gratitude for all the services, benefits and staff of the Hamiota District Health Centre complex, truly a great service to the region. In lieu of flowers or as a memoriam, those wishing to do so may make a donation in Stan's memory to the Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation Inc., 177 Birch Ave. E, Hamiota, MB R0M 0T0. Campbell Funeral Home, Hamiota in care of arrangements. (204) 764-2744.

LILLY PASCHKE

LILLY M. PASCHKE August 6, 1911 - August 16, 2004 Lilly Paschke went home to the glorious presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on August 16, 2004 at the age of 93 years. She was born icon to William and Amelia Kuhn at Leduc, AB on August 6, 1922, the fourth child in a family of 15. She grew up on the family farm at Leduc. A vital part of family life was her faith in God and participation in Rabbit Hill Baptist Church. It was there in February of 1927 she accepted Christ as her Saviour, and was baptized the following summer in a creek nearby. Though her public education ended after grade eight, Lilly regularly participated in seasonal Bible courses taught by local pastors. With the opening of a new Bible School in Edmonton, she enrolled, and graduated in the first graduating class at the Christian Training Institute in 1942. In 1943 she married Bill Paschke of Morris, MB, and moved to the family farm there. Their two children, Shelley and Robert, grew up there. When Bill predeceased her on August 18, 1973, she moved to town after buying a property within a block of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her life there revolved around home, church, and extended family until deteriorating health made a move to the Red River Valley Lodge necessary. The Bible continued to be very important to her as she was a long-time sponsor of the Scripture Memory Program, and a Sunday School Teacher of pre-school children. She was keenly interested in foreign missions, and made extended trips to Cameroon and Nigeria to help her younger sister Minnie, who was a missionary nurse. Music played an important role in her life also. She was a church pianist, regularly accompanied quartets and choirs, and for decades could be depended on as the first alto in the second row of the church choir. Lilly loved to read, and treasured her time as church librarian. She also loved books about nature, and bought just about every book the National Geographic Society ever published. While she could, she travelled extensively with her sisters to see a lot of it firsthand. Toward the end of her life, her loss of mobility and clear communication became frustrating to her and her family, as they missed her sense of humour and wry comments. Especially missed will be her prayers on behalf of her extended family. She was, however, very well cared for at the Red River Valley Lodge, and the family is deeply grateful to the staff there. Lilly is survived by her son Robert (Gaylene); daughter Shelley (Don) Edel; grandchildren, Kim (Adam) Atkinson, Charlene ( Tony) Nikkel, Brook (Ilisoni) Raiquiso, Dan, Jared, Evan (Nancy) and Tobin Paschke. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Lilly's memory to the Morris Emmanuel Baptist Church Missions Fund. A family interment service in the Morris Cemetery has taken place. The memorial service will be held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Morris on Sunday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. MORRIS FUNERAL HOME 746-2451 Toll Free 1-866-746-2451
