WHITNEY - Irene (nee Mitchell) December 2, 1927 - August 16, 2003 Irene Whitney passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre on August 16, 2003 at the age of 75. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ron (Susanne) Whitney, Holly (Leroy) Flanders, Steve (Eileen) Whitney, Sue Worrall, Denise (Bernie) Then, John (Judith) Worrall and Bev Whitney. Also remembered by her grandchildren, Dani, Tracy, Bill (Deanna), Justin (Amanda), Andrea (Chris), Renee, Darryl, Jody, Jennifer, Kelsey and Michele (Kevin); her nine great-grandchildren; her sister Jean Bray and many other relatives and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband of forty years, Lorne, in 1985. Irene lead an exciting and active life enjoying many activities such as curling, golfing, camping, sewing circle, travelling and playing games. The love of watching her children and grandchildren grow were her most cherished moments. Many thanks to the "Sunshine Point" staff and Dr. Lampard at the Bethany Care Centre who were so kind to Irene and her family during her stay. WONG - Fong Gee June 17, 1911 - October 6, 2003 Fong Gee Wong passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital. Fong Gee is lovingly remembered by her children, Henry (Lillian) Wong, May (Bill) Ives, Jean (Stan) Mah, Jack (May) Wong, Alice (Rick) Jim. She is sadly missed by her grandchildren, Donald (Maisie) Wong and their children Janice, Brian, Michelle and Christopher; Gordon (Patti) Wong and their children, Katherine and Amanda; David Wong; Allison Ives (Cory Meier), Nathan and Elizabeth Ives; Patrick Mah; Shawn and Zachary Wong; Steven and Heather Jim. She is also survived by her sister in China as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fong Gee was predeceased by her husband Lai Wong in 1977. She was baptized at Beddington Chinese Alliance Church and found great strength in the Lord. She was blessed with a happy, long and independent life. WOODS - Miriam J. (Lewis) Miriam J. (Lewis) Woods, died in Calgary on October 9, 2003, at the age of 104 years, 8 months and 18 days. Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her husband Glen Stanley Woods in January 1968, by her grandson Glen Stanley Woods in 1988, and by her son Elmer H. Woods in January 2002. She is survived by her only daughter Connie Hinkle of Sedona, Arizona; four granddaughters, Sharon Kanik (Myron), Susan Woods, Barbara Robinson, all of Calgary, and Terry Fairman (Marc) of San Francisco; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Woods, who was born in Dulwich, England in 1899, came to Calgary from Nova Scotia in 1912 in time to see the very first Calgary Stampede. She was a warm, loving person who provided the ultimate maternal role model for all her descendants to emulate. The family particularly wishes to express appreciation for the care and kindness shown to Mrs. Woods by the staff at Cedars Villa Extendicare facility. SCURR - Glenn Allan 1951 - 2003 Mr. Glenn Allan Scurr, beloved husband of Linda Scurr, of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 19, 2003 at the age of 52 years. Glenn will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Evan and Brendan; his sister Donna (Simpson) Laing and brother Richard. He will also be fondly remembered by his mother-in-law Irene Thompson of Regina; sister-in-law Angie Bellavance; nieces, Kristen and Robyn Bellavance; Catherine and nephew Cameron Laing, all of Calgary; as well as other relatives in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. He also cherished his many friendships and will be missed by all. Glenn was predeceased by his parents Vic and Marie Scurr. In his younger years Glenn was a gifted athlete excelling in hockey, baseball and football. Most importantly, Glenn was devoted to his family and was actively involved in supporting his children in all aspects of their lives. TINKLER - Ellen Ellen Tinkler passed to her rest on December 21, 2003 at the age of 92 years. TOMIE - Phillip 1935 - 2003 Phillip (Phil) Tomie, beloved husband of Sheelagh Tomie of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at the age of 68 years. Phil was born March 24, 1935 in Lethbridge, AB. He worked in Calgary and Lethbridge for numerous years in both the Trucking and Printing Industries. Phil was a longtime member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 285. All who knew him will remember him for his love of golf and especially his family. Besides his loving wife, Phil will be remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Parkyn; and his son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Lucy Tomie; four grandchildren, Jarret and Crystal Parkyn, and Matthew and Kathleen Tomie; his mother Mary Tomie and sister-in-law Dianne Tomie; nephew Don Tomie; and numerous cousins. SHIELDS - Robert MacKenzie Robert MacKenzie Shields was born September 20, 1933 in Alsask, Saskatchewan to Jack and Evelyn Shields of Oyen. Bob was raised in the Town of Oyen, Alberta where he continued to reside until his death February 22, 2004. Bob married Joan (Ferguson) December 10, 1955 in Acadia Valley, Alberta. Bob was a man of strengths and talents. He remained active in the community until his illness in July 2003. With his acoustic guitar he shared his gift of music with community members in both their times of joy and times of sorrow. Bob became a born again Christian in 1980. At this time, he began to minister and spread the word of Salvation through Jesus Christ. He traveled throughout the United States and Canada sharing God's message at churches, rodeos, correctional facilities, hospitals, nursing homes and First Nations. He was a member of the Gideons, The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Businessman's Fellowship International. He journeyed far away to Germany, Japan and Israel sharing the gospel and distributing bibles. Bob's greatest purpose was to lead people to salvation through Jesus Christ. Bob found time for his family. The family enjoyed camping, adventures to Disneyland, hunting and fishing expeditions together. He even learned how to downhill ski in 1979. He delighted in his grandchildren and always had time to baby-sit. Bob earned his private pilots license in 1974 and purchased Vincent, a Piper Cub. Vincent is a very versatile airplane, which enabled Bob to land anywhere there was stubble. He participated in fly-in breakfasts, Alberta Flying Farmer's Events and the Oyen Flying Club. He enjoyed flying and it was an activity shared with both of his sons, daughter-in-law Sherrie and his brother John. Bob built a mixed farming operation on the foundation of his family farm, purchased from his father Jack. He took pride in the farm and enjoyed working the land, trying new methods and technology. He tilled the soil in summer and maintained his herd of cattle in winter. Bob was a steward of the land and a protector of wildlife. He enjoyed hunting in season, but was adamant about protecting the lives of young birds and animals in the spring. He taught his children to enjoy crocuses, buffalo beans, brown-eyed Susans, and spring's first pussywillows. Bob was a Christian and he lived it, right from his "Praise the Lord" telephone greeting to his "Jesus is my Lord" ball cap. Bob is survived by Joan his wife of forty-eight years, sons Robbie (Sherrie), Jack (Andrea) and daughters Linda (Ralph) and Jenny; Grandchildren Deborah, Cathy and Bobbie Shields; Brothers Jim and John (Merna) Shields; Sisters Martha (Bill) Totzke and Faith (Charlie) Kent. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, February 28, 2004 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Oyen Alberta, at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Gideons in lieu of flowers. TRILSBECK - Lionel "Lyle" Lyle, beloved husband of Judy, passed away at Foothills Hospital on Monday, February 23, 2004 at the age of 56 years. Besides his loving wife, he is also survived by his parents Lisle and Dorothy Trilsbeck of Toronto; his mother-in-law Lilian Fenty of Barbados; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Neville and Rosie Fenty of Barbados, Mike and Jan Fenty of Toronto and Ann and Dieter Cohrs of Germany and their families. His twin brother Larry predeceased him in 1992. Born September 1, 1947 in Toronto, Lyle was employed for thirty-three years with Shell Canada. TULLOCH - Patricia Anne 1941 - 2004 Patricia Tulloch, beloved wife of Arthur Tulloch of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on February 22, 2004 due to complications following surgery, at the age of 62 years. VEJZAGIC - Igor December 23, 1961 - February 18, 2004 Born in Bosnia, Igor moved to Canada and received his Engineering Degree from the University of Calgary in May of 2000. He worked as a junior engineer with various companies until November of 2002 when he accepted the position of Design Engineer with Foster Wheeler Fired Heaters in Calgary. WHYTOCK - Jack 1912 - 2004 Jack Whytock of Calgary passed away quietly and at peace at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home, overlooking Fish Creek Park, a favourite place of he and his family on Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the age of 91 years. His wife of sixty-two years, Elsie, his sons, Kim and Bill, who survive him, honour and revere his memory. His legacy continues in his grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Hannah, and Lauren and their mothers, Cheryl and Dana. His career was a source of pride, his skills as a manager and a salesman were well recognized. Jack served his country in the Second World War with the RCNVR on convoy duty in the Atlantic. In retirement, he was a friendly neighbor and participated in a seniors organization, and Elsie and he traveled throughout Asia, Mexico and England. Jack and his dog Pepper hunted the plains and foothills of Alberta with many friends.
