LEONORA CARBONEL ORILLO Peacefully, on Sunday, September 5, 2004 at her home, Leonora Orillo passed away at the age of 93 years. Leonora will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Eufrocina (Cornelio) Ramos of the Philippines, and Lolita (Librado) Martin of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Alexander, Frederick (Editha), Milton and Evelyn (Alfonso) Go of the Philippines, and Abby Lyn, Anna Liza, and Allan Lynol of Winnipeg; and great-grandchildren, Eileen Ann, Ellen Fay, Eleanor Kay, and Jean of the Philippines, and Isiah and Avery of Winnipeg; and brothers, Romulo and Jose Carbonel. She was predeceased by her husband Luis; daughters, Patrocinia and Sabina; sisters, Adelina and Smenia; and grandson Anthony Lou. Leonora was born icon April 17, 1911 in Pangasinan, Philippines. Lola was married November 16, 1931, and had four children. In the Philippines she farmed along side her husband. She immigrated to Canada on September 17, 1977. Lola has touched many hearts and those who were in her presence, always felt loved. Lola devoted her time to her family in Canada and the Philippines. She was known for her infectious smile, generous heart, and unconditional love. She always had a listening ear and shared her wisdom. For this we will be forever humbled and grateful. The family would like to thank everyone who showed support during our time of loss. Pallbearers will be Allan Martin, Joe Avila, Renato Torio, Ruben Vila, Stephen Kileny and Ted Tabin. Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 9 and Friday, September 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. CHRISTINA EVELYN RAWLUK (nee SALISBURY) On Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Christina passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at the age of 56 years. Christina was born icon in Kentville, NS. In 1950, the family moved to Montreal where Christina received her formal education. She received her BA at Sir George William University. Then she went to McDonald Teacher College and received her Teaching Degree. She taught in Montreal schools and the School For The Blind. Later she came to Winnipeg and continued in the educational field. Christina had many interests. She enjoyed various crafts and attended many craft sales in and around Winnipeg. She loved to curl, play bridge and many other games. Christina will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her last words to all who visited her were "I Love You". She leaves to mourn her daughter Christy Lynn; her mom and dad, Edith and Harry Salisbury; aunt Hedwig Redlick; Bill and Cheryl Redlick; John and Margaret Redlick; Fraser and Ainsley; as well as Christy Lynn's father Roman Rawluk. She was predeceased by her uncle Otto Fitz and her cousin Pauline Redlick. In accordance with Christina's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. David Cornish presiding. A private family interment will be held in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens in the family plot. RAOUL (RALPH) ROMEO SARRASIN Peacefully, on Sunday, September 5, 2004, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Raoul joined his beloved Katherine in the house of our Lord. His memory will be everlasting in the hearts of his children, Joan (Agustin), Robert (Marie), Marni (Dave) and Kim (John); his sisters, Olive, Alice and Agnes; and brother Phil (Pearl). Also, left to cherish his memory are ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Raoul "Ralph" was born icon in St. Elizabeth, MB and later moved to Winnipeg where he made his home and was employed as a power engineer at Labatt's brewery. A devout Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus, Dad enjoyed numerous activities including golf, bowling and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Rd. RUDOLPH SCHLAMB On Sunday, September 5, 2004, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, Rudy passed away at the age of 76 years. Predeceased by his father and his sister; he is survived by his mother, niece, nephews, and grand-nephews. Rudy was employed by Eaton's and then the Government of Manitoba as an upholsterer. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed his retirement on his farm north of Stonewall with his two dogs Buster and Dooley. BARBARA LYNN 'BARB' SEN Barbara Lynn 'Barb' Sen (nee Kleim), passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at the age of 55 years. Barb was born icon on April 23, 1949 at Winnipeg, MB, third eldest in a family of eight children. Barb worked in the Service Industry in Moose Jaw, SK, Medicine Hat, AB and Winnipeg, MB. She worked for many years at the Polo Park Inn in Winnipeg and most recently at The Pancake House. Barb will be deeply and sadly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her loving family and dear friends. Barb leaves to mourn her loss, her loving son, Billy; sisters, Jackie and Sandra; and brothers, Ted, Don, Murray, Bobby and Ron. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law, Sharon, Mary, Tracy and Gerri; brothers-in-law, Jerry and Richard; as well as Sandy, Bill, Billy and Achim, numerous nieces and nephews and her many friends. LAWRENCE (LARRY) SHUTURMA Surrounded by his family, Lawrence passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital on Saturday September 4, 2004, at the age of 70 after a lengthy illness. Lawrence will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Helen; along with his children and grandchildren, Debbie & Rick Schwartz (Mathew, Megan, Steven & Emily), Jim & Sandee Shuturma (Blair) and Lynda & Brian Katchnoski (Tyler & Katie). He is also survived by his mother Sophie Shuturma and brother Don (Dorothy) Shuturma. Lawrence was predeceased by his father Onofrey, and his first grandchild, Bryan Katchnoski, with whom he shared a special bond. The family would like to thank all of the friends and family who spent time with Lawrence and helped care for him through his illness, as well as his home care workers, hospital staff, and our angel on the third floor at the Concordia Hospital. WILLIAM C. SIEMENS passed away at Eastview Place at the age of 90 years on September 6, 2004. Bill is survived by his sister Susan and her husband Henry Sawatzky. He was predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Susan Siemens; and eight brothers, David, Edman, Cornelius, Jacob, John, Peter, Henry and George. Bill was born icon on the farm in Weidenfeld on May 7, 1914. He farmed in the Weidenfeld area until 1950. He lived in the Winnipeg area most of his life. Bill enjoyed playing guitar, piano accordion and singing. Special thanks to the staff at Eastview Place in Altona for the care and comfort they provided during his stay. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to service. HELEN SIGURDUR 1915 - 2004 With sadness we announce the passing or our mother, grandmother and dear "nanny", Helen Sigurdur, aged 89 years, on September 4, 2004 at Betel in Gimli. She is survived by her son Lawrence (Evie), granddaughter Sharon (Kelvin), great-grandchildren, Craig and Krystin Rempel, granddaughter Tannis (Doug), great-grandchildren, Deanna, Kaitlyn and Zachery West, grandson Troy (Leah), great-grandchildren, Eric Cameron and Lucas Sigurdur, grandson Trevor and great-grandson Stoney Sigurdur. Many nieces and nephews, her sisters-in-law, Dora Mosalowski and Doreen Moss, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Anna Mosalowski; siblings, Caroline, Tony, Mary, Rose, Irene and Johnny. Her first husband Anthony Golinsky in 1940 and her second husband, our grandpa Stoney Sigurdur in 1987. Helen was born icon in Gimli and moved to Winnipeg at an early age. She worked for T. Eaton Co. for 26 years and later as a child care-giver. Helen was a hardworking, fun loving lady. She enjoyed travelling, bowling, knitting, reading, swimming, making perogies and spending time with family and friends, especially at Gimli. She suffered from a stroke in 1989 and has resided at Betel in Gimli since 1990. We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to the staff at Betel especially the girls, who gave Helen that extra care and kindness. Thanks also to everyone who kept in touch with letters, visits, etc. As per Helen's wishes no formal service will be held. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. Gendia was predeceased by her husband Rudolph Singh in 1987. She will be remembered by her son Rupert Singh of Winnipeg, President of Discreet Boutique; Lorna and Nehru Persaud of Orlando, FL; David and Elizabeth Singh of Toronto; Roy and Indra Singh of New York; Romana Singh Greenblatt of New York; her grandchildren, Yunita and Nirmal Sandhu of Winnipeg, Sandra and Tyler Bryan of Winnipeg, Rory and Cory of New York, Colin and Daniel Singh of Toronto; her brothers, Ceciel Latchoo of Toronto, Cyril and Shirley Latchoo of Guyana, Marvo and Rita Latchoo of New York; and many of her adopted kids, nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. The happiest days of her long life were spent with her kids and grandkids and all the great friends and relatives that surrounded her. Many thanks to Anjie and Curtis Gobin for being there. DOROTHY MILDRED TARR (nee ILSLEY) Peacefully on September 5, 2004, Dorothy Mildred Tarr passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her husband Alan E. Tarr in 1995. Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Margaret (Alfred) Wikjord of Pinawa, MB, Kathryn (Wayne) Barnes of Burlington, ON, and Barbara (Dale) Kendel of Winnipeg; and six grandchildren, Karla Wikjord, Susan Wikjord (Andrew Simpson), Jennifer Barnes, Jamie Barnes, Laura Kendel and David Kendel. She is also survived by her sister Betty Woodman of Wolfville, NS and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born icon in Somerset, NS, grew up in Wolfville, and graduated from Acadia University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She worked at the Wartime Prices and Trade Board in Ottawa during the War and there she met and married her husband Alan in 1944. They moved to Winnipeg in 1945 and resided in Fort Garry for over 50 years. Over the years, Dorothy was actively involved in many community activities. She served on the boards of the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Winnipeg Day Nursery Centre, and the Lake of the Woods District Property Owners Association. She also advocated for consumer issues with the Canadian Association of Consumers, Fort Garry Branch. Other interests included curling, gardening, golf, her investment club, and politics (Fort Garry Liberal Association and the Liberal Party of Manitoba). After Alan's retirement in 1979, they spent the winters in Florida and summers at the lake. One of her greatest joys was the family's cottage at Clearwater Bay. She would spend many hours of enjoyment building, painting, and puttering about the property. Fishing at the lake was Dorothy's passion - she had her secret fishing holes and favourite fishing (or fishy) tales! The family wishes to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their care and support during the last year and a half, and Helene, Dorothy's helper/companion for her TLC the last two and one half months. A service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Chapel, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Thursday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. SKY QUENTIN DARRYL TRAVERSE Tragically Denise was taken from us along with her common-law husband Darryl Traverse and her two sons, Sky and Jaden September 2, 2004 in Ashern, MB. Denise Anne Gabriel was born icon on December 5, 1978 in Winnipeg, MB. Sky Quentin Darryl Traverse was born icon on December 14, 1999. Jaden Joseph Warren Gabriel was born icon on January 17, 2002 in Winnipeg. Denise and her sons are survived by her parents and grandparents, Lorna and Bill Paul; father and grandfather Denis Houle; brother-uncle Quentin; sisters-aunts, Kathy (Frank), Francine and Antonia; nieces-cousins, Jasmine and Emma; nephews-cousins, Marcel, Frank and Jesse. Wake services will be held on Wednesday, September 8 and Thursday, September 9 at the residence of Lorna and Bill Paul at Lake Manitoba First Nation. ANTONIO JOSE VIEIRA 1912 - 2004 Sadly on Sunday evening, September 5, 2004, at the age of 92, Antonio Jose Vieira passed on. He is remembered by his wife Maria Vieira; sons, Jose (Rosa) and Luis (Maria); daughters, Rosa (Manuel), Maria Josie (Manuel) and Maria (Afonso); grandchildren, Paula (John), Joe (Cristina), Jose, Anita, Carlos, Susanna, Odette (Duane), Elizabeth, Jennifer, Ted, Stephanie, John and James; great-grandchildren, Manuel Ze and Tomaz; brother Jose (Maria); and sisters, Maria, Helena and Julia. He was predeceased by his brother Manuel, sister Teresa and granddaughter Fatima. Antonio was a very loving, caring family man. He was known by many for his kindness and generosity. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. The family would like to thank the homecare workers for assisting in his care as well as the nurses and doctors at the Health Sciences Centre on ward GA 4 for the wonderful care that they provided for him over his last week.
