ALBERT VERMEYLEN

ALBERT G. VERMEYLEN With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Albert G. Vermeylen on October 10, 2004 in Dauphin, MB, with his family at his side. Albert was born icon in Grandvoir, Belgium in 1916 and moved to Canada with his family in 1919. At the age of 17, Albert and his family moved to Boggy Creek, MB. There, he met and married Claire Bedu in 1940, and the couple farmed and raised a family of four children. Albert was predeceased by his parents, Desire and Justine; as well as his brothers, Adelin, Georges, Gaston, and Emile; and his sisters, Berthe and Germaine; and most recently by his loving wife Claire. Left to celebrate Albert's life and achievements are his children, Albert Jr. (Eileen), Jeanne (Dennis), Huguette, and Daniel (Melaney); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; siblings, Louis, Amelia and Louise; and numerous nephews and nieces. Albert spent much of his time hard at work on the farm until he sold it in 1976. In his retirement years, he enjoyed time spent with family, cribbage and playing billiards at the "Fifty and Over Club" in Roblin. He loved to play the violin and sing at family gatherings, and will be remembered for his keen sense of humour. Albert's family would like to thank the Palliative Care staff at the Dauphin General Hospital for their special care and friendship. Albert is laid to rest at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery in Roblin, MB.

WILLIAM ALEXANDER April 1, 1914 - October 8, 2004 It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill on October 8, 2004 at the Rehab. Hospital, Health Sciences Centre. He had a full, independent and healthy life up to the last few months of his 90 years. He was our special Uncle Bill to his many family members, Dorothy and Don Minaker, their three children, Natasha, Wade and Robin; Dick and Pat Alexander; Julie and Jeff Stephenson, their two daughters, Jamie and Jennifer. Bill was an extremely wise and gentle man. He had limitless patience and taught us all to enjoy the simple things in life. He was famous for saying "Take it easy". Bill was a lifetime resident of St. James and lived most of his life on Ferry Road. Many things in that home are a statement to his carpentry skills. He worked all his life at the family business, The Alexander and Bailey Tire Store (A & B). Bill served time at Shilo in the Second World War. In his retirement years he enjoyed his woodworking, golf, coffee at the Sal's and many trips in the van. He shared most of his years with his brother Jack and his three children. In his later years, the St. James Legion became an important part of meeting friends like Hughie Mushrow and Artie Bourke. We have so many wonderful memories of Bill, he will never leave us. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Rehab. Hospital, 4th and 5th floor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rehab. Hospital, Health Sciences Centre. Cremation will take place and a private family ceremony will follow.

JEAN BUTTERWORTH

JEAN BUTTERWORTH (nee GRAY) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our caring, generous and respected mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Jean Butterworth on Thursday, October 14, 2004, at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous struggle with kidney disease. Jean was born icon in Winnipeg where she met her husband Leslie. They were married in 1936 and enjoyed 42 years together before Les died. Jean's family was the pride and focus of her life. She had a deep concern for the welfare of all those she knew, and she always welcomed everyone into her home. Her ability to unconditionally value and accept people, whatever their walk in life might be, was among her most admirable traits. Jean's tremendous sense of fair play and compassion dominated all aspects of her life and her living example was powerful encouragement for her family. Among her secrets of success was the finding of happiness in simple things together with unwavering optimism. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed, she is survived by her daughter Maureen Pedersen; sons, Tom Butterworth (Edythe), Donald (Sharon); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Kay Lang (Arthur) in Vancouver; sister-in-law Vera Oliver of Woking, England; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 730 Taylor Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3M 2K8. MARION CAMPBELL

MARION McDONALD CAMPBELL August 27, 1919 - October 14, 2004 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Marion Campbell, of Calgary, formerly of Dauphin, on October 14, 2004. We feel blessed that her passing was peaceful, her twin girls were at her side, and she has gone to a better place. She will be greatly missed by daughters, Bev (Rod) Smith and Sherry (Rick) Hubka; and grandchildren, Carrie and Kyle Hubka; as well as her brother Justin's eight children and families, Maureen and Butch, Jim and Sharon, Norma, Barb, Bev and Denis, Lori, Joan and Joe and Shelley and Perry; and other relatives and friends across the country. Mom was born icon in Dauphin to original pioneers, Jim and Maude Campbell. While she spent the majority of her 85 years in Dauphin, she also lived in Toronto during the 1950s (where her son Angus was born icon and passed away at age 4, and twins, Bev and Sherry were born); Calgary during the early 1960s; and Swan River during the late 1960s. In between her moves, she always returned to her place of birth, where her parents, as well as her brother Justin and family, lived. In 1998 Mom relocated to Calgary to live with her daughter Sherry and Rick and two grandchildren. She stayed with them four years and then was placed in Bow-Crest Care Centre to face the challenges associated with Alzheimer's. Mom had the wonderful gift of a great sense of humour, and was steadfast in all of her convictions, supporting every cause that she believed in with both time and money. She was very involved with her British Israel faith, the League of Rights, politics, and local community groups such as the Royal Purple in Swan River and the Dauphin Pioneers' Association, where she served as Secretary for many years and hospital visitor. In between all of her causes, she was a great correspondent, and made literally thousands of crafts over the years, particularly her little hat pincushions. She grew beautiful flowers and entered arrangements that won many prizes at the Dauphin Fair. She always had a garden, with a large hedge of nanking cherries. Mom also loved her music and dances, and always tried her best to get everyone involved. She did lots of chording on the piano for fiddling and Pioneer events, and served as an alternate piano player for the Salvation Army Church from time to time. She enjoyed many years of card parties with the neighbours on 4th Avenue N.E. Her door was always open to company, with no appointment required. While Mom was mostly a stay-at-home mom, she did work at the Dauphin Creamery in her early years, did some office work in Winnipeg, managed the Airport Motel and worked at the local skating rink while we were growing up in Dauphin. Funeral service at Riverside Chapel, Dauphin, on Tuesday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m., Captain Peter Mitchell officiating. No viewing. Interment at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Lunch to follow at Riverside. Pallbearers, Rod Smith, Rick and Kyle Hubka, Butch Fleury, Denis Savoie and Gordie Smith. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Malcolm family for allowing Mom, as per her request, to be buried in the Malcolm plot alongside Bob Malcolm, her companion of 12 years until his death in 1980. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Mennonite Central Committee, or to a charity of one's choice.
