FRANK WESELAK

FRANK M. WESELAK With his family by his side, Frank passed away peacefully at the Misericordia Interim Care Unit (C2) on October 30, 2004. He is survived by his sons, Vic (Joan) and Ed (Lesley); grandchildren, Kevin (Amanda), David (Leslie), Jackie (Wayne), Jennifer (Todd), Jill (Scott), Lindsay (Murray); and ten great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved. Frank is also survived by brothers, Tony, Ed and Alex and sister Jessie. He was predeceased in 1970 by his wife of 33 years Caroline (Olinyk); also predeceased by wife Josephine and wife Grace. Frank was born icon in Oakburn, MB on January 17, 1911. He farmed in Kelloe, MB and in 1951 moved to Winnipeg. He worked for Bristol Aircraft and Selkirk Meat Mart. After retiring, Frank moved to Penticton, BC in 1983 and in 1998 returned to Winnipeg, MB. He loved to golf and did so until he was 90 years old. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m. in Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vital Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy. with Rev. Dr. Patrick A. Morand presiding. Interment will follow in Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. C. Lowden and the entire staff of Misericordia Interim Care (C2) for their care and compassion. EDWIN WONNEK On Sunday, October 31, 2004, Edwin Wonnek, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 75 years. Ed was born icon in Steinbach, MB on August 21, 1929. He is survived by his loving wife Esther (nee Borkowsky) of 52 years; two sons, Brad and Miles (Betty). He was predeceased by his parents, John and Pauline Wonnek; brother Henry; sisters, Loreen and Matilda; brothers-in-law, Henry Radtke, Phil Morse, Mike Tureski, Emil Mantie, Bill Fiebelkorn, Bert Carriere, Andy Nehaj, James Rivard, Jack Shinkel, and Henry Borkowsky; sisters-in-law, Mary Wonnek, Lydia Mantie, and Luella Borkowsky. He is also survived by his brothers, Roy (Ena), Raymond (June); sisters, Lavina Radtke, Noreen (Lars) Bracken and Grace Morse; sisters-in-law, Minnie Carriere, Molly Rivard, Christine Fiebelkorn, Irene Schinkel, and Joyce Nehaj; brothers-in-law, Manuel (Ethel) Borkowsky, Alfred (Christine) Borkowsky, Herbie (Doreen) Borkowsky; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. HILDA AUDETTE

HILDA AUDETTE (nee GRAFF) September 28, 1923- November 2, 2004 With deepest sorrow and heavy hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Hilda Audette, on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Susanne; granddaughter Kristjana (Brad) and great-grandson Kolby; daughter-in-law Dee; grandchildren, Rebecca (John) of Boston and Joshua of Ottawa and her sister Lydia; brothers-in-law, Roy (Jill) and Leo (Pauline); adopted children, Cec and Gord, Donald and Joceline; many nieces, nephews and countless friends. Hilda was predeceased by her loving husband, Stephen; son Ronald and sisters, Elizabeth, Lena, Kate, Elsie, Dorothy, Tilly and Emma; also three brothers, who died in childhood and sister-in-law Mary (Norman). Hilda was born icon and raised in Transcona and had numerous places of employment, most notably, Transcona News and Western Wall Covering, as well as many volunteer jobs for which she received special recognition in the form of a plaque from the City of Transcona. She was also a member of the Canadian Legion, a Sunday School teacher and a long term member of the Catholic Women's League. Hilda had a zest for life, loved to party and made everyone welcome to her home. Her special joy was all the time spent at the lake with her family and many friends. She will be remembered for her favourite saying, "While you're up...". She enjoyed many outdoor activities as well as time spent playing cards with family and friends. Mom was deeply spiritual and wished everyone to love one another and pray together. The family extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of St. Boniface Hospital, namely, Fr. Roland Lanois in Pastoral Care, Dr. I. Mohammed, Dr. M. Shojania and the many nurses of the Oncology Department, especially Marianne and Maureen, as well as the Home Care and Palliative Care staff, especially Hope and Rose. Prayers will be offered this evening at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, November 4 at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 425 Rosseau Ave. East in Transcona. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 5 also at the church, with Fr. Carl Tarnopolski officiating. Interment to follow beside her husband Stephen, at the Transcona Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Llyle Corbet, Don Ringach, Carl Espersen, Gordon Ross, Billy Ringach and Barry Coombs. Elaine is survived by her loving husband Paul, who never left her side during her last days of life. EDITH BYHRE

EDITH BYHRE (BULMAN) December 23, 1921 - November 1, 2004 On Monday, November 1, 2004 at Seven Oaks General Hospital Edith Byhre passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Edith leaves to mourn her children, son Bob (Jean) of Sardis, BC; daughters, Carol (Jack) of Langley, BC, Brenda (Biagio), Sandra (Andre); son Bryan (Teresa); and daughter Tanyss of Toronto, ON. Her beloved sister Alma and brothers, Fred of Beausejour, MB and Willy of British Columbia; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (12th to come); three stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild and her nieces and nephews. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Vern in 2000; her parents, Adolphe and Paulina Bulman; brothers, Carl, Alex, Emil, August, Hermann and Daniel; and her great-granddaughter Maria. Edith was born icon on December 23, 1921 in Brokenhead, MB and grew up in the Lydiatt area. In 1943 she married Vern Byhre and together they raised a family of six. As all who knew her she had many loves and passions, her family was always first, and her church was always a priority from the time she came into the world until the time she left. She was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church and more recently, Abundant Life Lutheran Church. She gave many life lessons starting with loving one another, giving to others in need, and prayer. These and many other lessons were well taught and continue to resonate with her children and her grandchildren. Many heartfelt thanks to the many souls who visited and comforted her at home and in the hospital, including her Home Care friends Anna and Elizabeth, her neighbours and friends, Pastor Bob Jacob and Vi and her church family, her physician Dr. Husarewich, the doctors, nurses and staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital, particularly Trinity. Also special thanks to the staff of the Health Sciences Pain Clinic for providing quality of life for her over the last few months of her life, especially to Dr. Nelson Svorkdal and staff members, Marcie, Dean and Linda. And lastly, a thank you to the Selkirk & Area Paramedic Service, especially to the wonderful paramedic who took time and prayed with our mother, it meant a world to her. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 5 at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church, 7 Tudor Cr. FERN CAMILLE ECCLES (nee PHOENIX) Fern Camille Eccles (nee Phoenix), the epitome of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend died peacefully on Monday, November 1 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. She was 77. Fern was born icon in Melita, MB on March 6, 1927. She attended the local district schools of Elva, Birch Bay and Belfray, and worked at a drugstore until her marriage in 1952. A Manitoban all her life, Fern also graced the communities of Thompson, Morden and Winnipeg, and at each location imparted family value with brilliant flair. She had that rare combination of beauty and energy. Her magic was displayed through her smile and hands, for which she could lighten the mood of any room or leave an everlasting artistic impression on all those around her. Fern will be forever remembered by husband Blythe Eccles in Winnipeg; sister Lois Foster in Melita; daughter Lynne (Stuart) Guest in Edmonton, AB; son Wayne (Linda) Eccles in Winnipeg; and son Roy (Karena) Eccles in Sherwood Park, AB; and eight grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Lara, Neil, Codey, Allison, Meghan and Thomas. CHARLES WILLIAM ROBERT EMMS November 23, 1935- November 1, 2004 A heart of gold stopped beating, working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove that He only takes the best. Surrounded by the love of his family, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. It is with great sorrow that we announce that our beloved Dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Robert, passed away on November 1, 2004 at the age of 68. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Svea and Wallace and his sister Eleanor, in infancy. Dad was born icon on November 23, 1935 in Chatfield, MB to Wallace and Svea Emms. He attended school in Chatfield and later moved to Poplarfield to farm and to raise his family. He remained active on the farm until a few short months ago. Dad's life was his children, grandchildren and the farm. Dad's true love was the farm, but over the years he worked at Claude Neon, Riverside Gravel, assisted with the construction of Seagram's in Gimli and worked for Poplarfield Transfer. In 1995, Dad received his "Sammy", his trusted dog that stood by him day and night. One of Dad's main loves was hunting. He would take his holidays from the farm for two weeks of deer hunting. The first day of deer hunting was always a special day for Dad. He shared many hunting partners, stories and tales of the one that got away or that the scope missed! Dad's door was always open to all to share a cup of coffee, a glass of cheer, or a story. Pallbearers are: Keith Emms, Kelvin Emms, Codey Emms, Mike Emms, Jim Swedlo and Paul Humeny. Honorary pallbearers are: Teddy Welsh, Bill Grywinski, Ronnie Ostryzniuk, Michael Leochko and George Hibbert. God saw you getting tired In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away You suffered much in silence You fought so hard to stay You faced your task with courage Your spirit did not bend But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired So He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come with Me." So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain We could not wish you back To suffer again. BEN HEINRICHS

BEN W. HEINRICHS September 15, 1913- September 14, 2004 On Tuesday, September 14, 2004, Ben Heinrichs, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dear friend and great storyteller, went to join his wife and a host of others who'd passed on before. He is survived by sister Annie of Altona; one daughter Dolores Aberdeen, Castlegar, BC; three sons, Bill (Carol), Penticton, BC, Ron (Mary) of Morden, Ken of Winnipeg; 14 grandchildren, Charmaine Aberdeen of Castlegar, Cindy, Debbie, Bradley, Monty, Danny of Vancouver, Brett (Michaela), Calgary, Angela (Don), Airdre, AB, Sheldon (Kristine), Steinbach, Sherald, Morden, Laura and Caitlin Heinrichs of Winnipeg; six great-grandchildren, Bailey and Will Aberdeen of Castlegar, Tricia, Erin and Josh of Airdre and Erryn Heinrichs of Steinbach. He was predeceased by his parents William and Maria Heinrichs; his wife Tien; four brothers, three sisters and a daughter, Barbara in infancy. Ben grew up on the family farm in Halbstadt. He attended school in Halbstadt, Lowe Farm and the MCI in Gretna. It was at the MCI that Ben acquired a love of music, especially classical and opera. In 1934, Ben left the family farm to attend Hanson Auto School in Fargo, ND. A year later he returned to Halbstadt to work in the family machine shop. Here he put his creative mind to work and built a 32 volt electric charger to generate lights for the barn and house. To his father's delight, Ben also built a radio which kept the entire family in touch with the world. In 1938 Ben married Tien Abrams and they spent a year in Tyndall where Ben managed his own garage and taxi service. Upon their return to Altona, Ben opened up shop and continued to serve his community until well past his retirement in 1980. Ben was an avid reader all his life and had a particular interest in Mennonite history. He also loved to travel and knew no strangers along the way. He was a faithful husband, a devoted father and a loyal friend. Throughout his life he was a collector of antiques and made many wonderful friends pursuing his hobby. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. His stories will continue to resonate in our hearts and minds forever. A gathering to celebrate his life was held on September 20 at the Altona Senior's Centre. The family would like to thank the following for their caring and support: Dr. Buddefeld for taking care of our father for so many years, the nurses and staff at Altona Community Memorial Health Centre for their tender care and compassion, Mel and Chris Giesbrecht for their help at the gathering and a special thank-you to all the friends and family who visited our father and assisted him when he needed it. Thanks also to Terry Wiebe for taking care of the arrangements and for being a good neighbour.

FRED HILL

FRED HILL Fred passed away peacefully on Monday, November 1, 2004 at the age of 79 years. Fred will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years Mollie; daughters, Carol (Gary), Barbara (Neil); grandchildren, Ryan, Graeme, Kristen, Janine and Laura; brother Walter (Hilda); also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Martha; brother Tom; and sister Margaret. Fred was born icon in Winnipeg in 1925. He grew up in a time where there was little money, by grade eight he had quit school so he could work to help his family. After serving four years overseas during the Second World War as a field radio operator, Fred returned to Winnipeg, where he met Mollie. They married in 1949 he then obtained his journeyman's electrician certificate and began his long career with Comstock International. He retired in 1989 after 35 years. He had many hobbies throughout his life, such as woodworking, carpentry and playing cribbage, but his favourite passion of all was fishing. Fred was a quiet and gentle man who loved the outdoors and nature. He preferred being alone on a quiet lake, than being anywhere else. His soft spot for animals was apparent even as a child when he would bring home stray dogs and cats. He instilled this love of nature in his daughters, who have many fond memories of hiking, fishing and exploring with him as youngsters. Everyone who knew him respected him for his quiet, unassuming approach also for being a man of his word. He will be missed. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 5 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway with Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. LYDIA HELEN HOWARD On Saturday, October 30, 2004, Lydia Howard of Neepawa, formerly of Kelwood, entered into rest at the age of 87 years. Lydia is survived by her children, Gerry (Lois), Lorraine (Herb) Botting and Brian (Roxanne); six grandchildren, Calvin (Margaret) and Leanne Howard, Mike (Tracy) and Brad Botting, Tanya (Roger) Desjarlais and Jason Howard; and two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Quentin Howard. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Milton. Funeral service will be held at Neepawa United Church, 475 Mountain Ave. in Neepawa on Saturday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. Interment to follow at the Goodland Cemetery in Glenella. Donations in Lydia's memory can be made to a charity of your choice. CASEY KANSAS

CASEY JOHN KANSAS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Casey John Kansas on Monday, November 1, 2004 at the age of 56. Casey was predeceased by his father John Grabowiecki, who shared many hunting trips with Casey and his brother Brian. Casey will be lovingly remembered by his mother Mary Pardoski (Grabowiecki) and stepfather Stan Pardoski; one brother Brian Grabowiecki (Pat); sister Carol Giardino (John) and three nephews, T.J., Adam and Bryan; one stepbrother Dennis Pardoski (Janice); one stepsister Debbie Iskierski (Henry); and four stepnephews, Bobby, Nick, Dean and Mark; two stepnieces, Jennifer and Monica. Casey was born icon in Vita, MB, raised on a farm in Carlowrie, MB. He graduated Valedictorian from St. Malo High School. He then joined the R.C.A.F. and after six years he was given a medical discharge for Type 1 Diabetes.. He then pursed a career in advertising with the Winnipeg Tribune, The Edmonton Herald and then the Winnipeg Free Press. Casey enjoyed hunting, bowling, golf, wood working and let's not forget his amazing inventive ideas. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Health Sciences Centre.
